In a move to unify media voices in South Kashmir, the Kulgam Working Journalists Association (KWJA) and the Journalists Union of Kulgam (JUoK) held a joint core group meeting today, calling for the establishment of a press club for the welfare of journalists in the district. A 10-member core committee has been established.

This meeting brought both associations together to advocate for a unified platform and a designated space for media professionals in Kulgam, a need that remains unmet.

“A suitable place for media persons to meet, where seniors and juniors can come together to discuss stories for the larger interest of Kulgam, is essential. Today, we stand united in our demand for a ‘Press Club’ for the Kulgam media fraternity,” said a senior KWJA journalist.

A JUoK member said, “A press club in Kulgam is more than a building; it’s a vital resource for journalists who face daily challenges in covering critical stories,This collaboration is about creating a secure, collaborative environment for our community.”

A spokesperson for the core group emphasized, “Our aim is straightforward yet essential: to establish a platform that promotes press freedom, unity, and professional growth. We are optimistic that this unity will bring us closer to that vision.”

The associations appealed to Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha, J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Cabinet Minister Sakina Itoo, and other leaders to support the media fraternity’s plea for a press club in Kulgam, which has been a longstanding demand since 2007.(KNS).
