Several people are feared to be trapped after a building collapsed in Satya Niketan, southwest Delhi, on Sunday afternoon.

Visuals from the spot showed a large crowd gathered near the collapsed building as fire brigade personnel worked through the rubble in an effort to locate survivors.

The building was reportedly being used as a paying guest (PG) accommodation. An eyewitness said around 50 students were believed to be inside when the structure collapsed. As it was Sunday, many of them were reportedly at the accommodation.

Disturbing visuals from the site showed a person trapped beneath a concrete slab, while several people appeared to be trying to lift the debris and rescue them.

At least 12 fire tenders have been deployed at the location to assist with the rescue operation.

Satya Niketan has a large student population and is surrounded by several educational institutions and colleges, making the incident particularly concerning for residents and students in the area.

Rescue personnel continue to search the collapsed structure, with further details expected as the operation progresses.
