Majlis-e-Rahmatan lil Aalameen Held at Srinagar Jama Masjid as Mirwaiz Placed Under House Arrest

Srinagar: A special Majlis-e-Rahmatan lil Aalameen ﷺ was held at the historic Central Jama Masjid Srinagar on Friday under the auspices of Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid in connection with the blessed month of Rabi-ul-Awwal.
Prominent Ulema, Islamic scholars, Naat Khwans and a large number of devotees attended the religious gathering.
Eminent scholars Mufti Nazir Ahmad Qasmi and Maulana Showkat Hussain Keng addressed the Majlis and spoke about various aspects of the Seerah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. They highlighted the Prophet’s timeless teachings of faith, compassion, justice, moral character and service to humanity.
Naat Khwans Mohd Afaaq Chisti and Rafique Ahmed Zardari also presented devotional verses in praise of the Holy Prophet ﷺ, adding to the spiritual atmosphere of the gathering.
Mirwaiz Placed Under House Arrest
Meanwhile, Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr Moulvi Mohammad Umar Farooq, who was scheduled to preside over and conclude the Majlis, was once again placed under house arrest and prevented from offering Friday prayers and attending the religious programme at the Jama Masjid.
The Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid strongly condemned the repeated house arrest of the Mirwaiz, particularly on Fridays.
The Anjuman termed the restrictions deeply regrettable and said preventing the Mirwaiz from carrying out his religious responsibilities and addressing devotees at the historic Jama Masjid amounted to interference in the religious affairs of the people.
Kashmiri Translation of Holy Quran Released
The Majlis also marked two important scholarly occasions.
A word-for-word translation of the Holy Qur’an into Kashmiri, prepared by Gulzar Ahmad Parray of Shopian in three volumes, was formally released during the programme.
The work was appreciated as an important contribution towards making the message of the Qur’an more accessible to Kashmiri-speaking people and promoting the region’s long tradition of Qur’anic scholarship.
Scholar Honoured for Memorising Sahih al-Bukhari
Young Islamic scholar Mufti Showkat Ahmad Qasmi, a Fazil of Darul Uloom Deoband and former student of Darul Uloom Bilaliya, Lal Bazar, was also honoured during the gathering.
He was recognised for achieving the distinction of memorising the complete Sahih al-Bukhari, comprising 7,563 Ahadith, as stated during the programme.
Both Gulzar Ahmad Parray and Mufti Showkat Ahmad Qasmi were felicitated for their respective scholarly contributions.
The Majlis concluded with special prayers for the welfare of the people, peace and prosperity, and for the ability to follow the teachings and noble example of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in individual and collective life.
