Sergio Gor’s J&K Visit Will Show World ‘Actual Situation’ in Kashmir: BJP

Speaking to KNS, Thakur said the visit would provide an opportunity for the US envoy to see the changes that have taken place in Kashmir.
“The way conditions used to be in Kashmir earlier, now for once, the entire world should also get to know what the actual situation in Kashmir is,” Thakur said.
Thakur Highlights Meetings with Omar Abdullah and Manoj Sinha
Thakur said Gor’s scheduled meetings with Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha would give the US envoy a first-hand account of developments in the region.
According to the BJP leader, the meetings would allow Gor to understand the changes in Kashmir and the progress made in different areas since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.
“Now, with the US Ambassador visiting, meeting the Chief Minister and the LG, they will also brief others in their own way about the significant changes in Kashmir’s situation and the current level of development and progress on other issues,” Thakur said.
First Serving US Ambassador to Visit Kashmir Since 2019
Sergio Gor’s visit marks the first visit by a serving US Ambassador to Kashmir since Jammu and Kashmir was reorganised as a Union Territory in 2019.
Gor, who assumed charge as the US Ambassador to India earlier this year, also serves as the US Special Envoy for South and Central Asia.
During his visit, Gor is scheduled to meet both the Chief Minister and the Lieutenant Governor in Srinagar before travelling to Ladakh.
Thakur said the visit could help provide international observers with a clearer understanding of the changes and developments taking place in Jammu and Kashmir.
His comments come as Gor’s maiden visit to the region attracts considerable political and diplomatic attention.
