Kathua Policeman Dismissed from Service Over Alleged Involvement in Narcotics Smuggling

According to a police spokesperson, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kathua Mohita Sharma ordered the dismissal of Aftab Ahmed, a resident of Reasi district, following a departmental inquiry that found him involved in a case registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Arrested in Narcotics Case
Police said the constable was apprehended during a checking operation conducted by a police team earlier this year.
According to the spokesperson, heroin was allegedly recovered from his possession, leading to the registration of an FIR under various provisions of the NDPS Act at Billawar Police Station.
Following his arrest, the constable was placed under suspension on 8 April for alleged grave misconduct and indiscipline.
Departmental Inquiry Confirmed Charges
A departmental inquiry was subsequently initiated and assigned to the Superintendent of Police (Operations).
The inquiry report, submitted on 27 July, confirmed the allegations against the constable and recommended his dismissal from service.
Based on the findings, the SSP Kathua issued an order dismissing him from the police force with immediate effect.
Action Taken Under Police Rules
The dismissal was carried out under Rule 335 of the Jammu and Kashmir Police Rules.
Police said the action was taken to uphold institutional discipline and send a clear message that involvement in narcotics-related offences will not be tolerated within the force.
The spokesperson added that the decision reflects the department’s commitment to maintaining integrity and strengthening its campaign against drug trafficking.
Zero-Tolerance Policy Against Drugs
Jammu and Kashmir Police have repeatedly stated that they are following a strict zero-tolerance policy against narcotics.
Officials said disciplinary action would continue against any police personnel found involved in criminal activities, particularly offences related to drugs, to maintain public confidence and accountability within the force.
