Two Migrant Workers Killed in Kulgam Terror Attack, LG Sinha Orders Intensified Anti-Terror Operations
SRINAGAR: The death toll in the terrorist attack on migrant workers in Kulgam district of south Kashmir has risen to two, after a critically injured labourer died during treatment at SKIMS Srinagar, officials said on Saturday.
According to police, militants attacked two migrant labourers at a brick kiln in the Kelam area of Kulgam late on Friday evening.
Both Workers Succumb to Injuries
A senior police official said one of the injured workers, identified as Deepak Ratray, died from his injuries before he could be shifted to hospital.
The second injured labourer, identified as Bopinder, was initially admitted to Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag before being referred to Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The identities and home states of the victims have not yet been officially disclosed beyond their names.
Security Forces Launch Search Operation
Following the attack, security forces launched a search operation in the area to trace the militants involved.
The incident comes less than ten days after another militant attack in Anantnag, where a police officer was shot dead.
LG Manoj Sinha Condemns Attack
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha strongly condemned the attack and spoke with Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat, directing security agencies to intensify anti-terror operations across the region.
In a post on X, the Lieutenant Governor said he had instructed security forces to ensure those responsible are identified and brought to justice.
He also expressed condolences to the bereaved families and said the Jammu and Kashmir administration, along with the entire nation, stands in solidarity with them.
Similar Attack in 2024
The latest incident recalls a similar attack on 7 February 2024, when two non-local workers from Punjab, Amritpal Singh and Rohit Masih, were shot dead by a terrorist in the Shaheed Gunj area of Srinagar.
Authorities have stepped up security measures following the latest attack, while investigations into the Kulgam incident are underway.
