The event was organised by Anjuman-e-Sharie Shian, led by Aga Syed Hasan Al-Moosavi Al-Safavi. Addressing the gathering, Mirwaiz described Ayatollah Khamenei as a respected religious and political leader whose life reflected faith, courage, determination and dedication to the unity and dignity of the Muslim Ummah.
According to a statement, Mirwaiz said Ayatollah Khamenei’s life carried an important message for Muslims around the world. He said faith is not limited to personal worship but also requires people to stand for justice, protect human dignity, support the oppressed and resist injustice with wisdom and courage.
Mirwaiz said the best way to honour Ayatollah Khamenei’s legacy is to promote unity among Muslims. He said that at a time when the Muslim Ummah faces divisions, conflicts and outside pressures, Muslims should remember that Shia and Sunni share one Qur’an, one Prophet (pbuh) and one Qibla despite differences in schools of thought.
Speaking about Ayatollah Khamenei’s views on nuclear weapons, Mirwaiz said he consistently opposed their development and use despite facing pressure and threats. He said Ayatollah Khamenei believed such weapons were against Islamic teachings and harmful to humanity.
Mirwaiz added that this position carries great importance in today’s world, where military power is often seen as strength, while true strength lies in justice, self-restraint and responsibility.
He also highlighted Ayatollah Khamenei’s long-standing support for the Palestinian people and their right to dignity, justice and freedom. Mirwaiz said the suffering of Palestinians remains a serious moral challenge for both the Muslim Ummah and the international community.
Referring to people living under prolonged uncertainty and injustice, Mirwaiz said oppressed communities can find strength through unity, patience, clear moral values and collective determination. He stressed that justice and dignity cannot be achieved through division and urged communities to remain united, disciplined and guided by wisdom.
Mirwaiz concluded by praying for the departed leader and said his legacy should encourage Muslims to reject sectarianism, strengthen brotherhood, support the oppressed and work together for justice, peace and unity.
