In a post on X, Gandhi said freedom comes with the responsibility to follow the principles for which the country’s freedom fighters struggled.
“Heartfelt Independence Day greetings to all fellow citizens. Freedom is not merely a gift bestowed upon us by our freedom fighters, but also a responsibility,” he said.
Rahul Gandhi Highlights Truth and Non-Violence
Gandhi said citizens have a duty to follow the path of truth and non-violence while respecting the values of the Indian Constitution and the national flag.
“This responsibility is to walk the path of truth and non-violence, to hold the values of the Constitution and the tricolour in our hearts, and to safeguard democracy under all circumstances,” he said.
His message placed democracy, constitutional values and non-violence at the centre of his Independence Day remarks.
Gandhi Praises Youth for Protecting Democratic Values
The Congress leader also expressed pride in citizens who, particularly young people, are working to protect these values.
He said citizens, especially the youth, are “united in protecting these values”.
Gandhi’s Independence Day message focused on the responsibilities that come with freedom and the need to protect democracy, constitutional principles and the values represented by the Tricolour.
As India marks 80 years of Independence, his remarks highlight the importance of citizens actively contributing to the country’s democratic and constitutional institutions.
