In a post on X, Mehbooba said the US envoy should reconsider the advisory, arguing that it has a direct impact on Kashmir’s tourism sector and the families dependent on it.

“The least the US Ambassador Sergio Gor @USAmbIndia can do is review and withdraw the highest level travel advisory against visiting Kashmir,” Mehbooba wrote.

Mehbooba Links Advisory to Kashmir Tourism

Mehbooba said the travel advisory was more than simply a warning for Kashmir, where thousands of families depend on tourism for their livelihoods.

“For Kashmir, where thousands of families depend on tourism, the travel advisory on Kashmir is more than a warning, it is a wall between Kashmir and the world,” she said.

She argued that removing the advisory could send a strong message of confidence and encourage international visitors to return to the region.

‘Lifting Advisory Would Help Tourism’

According to Mehbooba, withdrawing the advisory could provide much-needed relief to families whose incomes depend on tourism.

“Lifting it would send a powerful message of confidence, help bring back international tourists and give much needed relief to countless families whose livelihoods depend on tourism,” she added.

Her remarks came as US Ambassador Sergio Gor began his maiden visit to Jammu and Kashmir.

Gor is scheduled to meet Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha during his visit to Srinagar before travelling to Ladakh.

Mehbooba’s appeal places tourism and international travel advisories among the issues being raised by Kashmir’s political leadership during the US envoy’s visit.
