Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary Asserts NC-led Government’s Power to Address Key Issues in J&K

Surinder kumar

Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary today acknowledged the challenges  NC led Government faces, but assured the public of the government’s capacity to make impactful decisions within the framework of the Reorganization Act 2019. “Who told you we cannot take big decisions?” he asked. “There is no such restriction in the Act; we have the power to address people’s concerns on development, employment, and other pressing issues,”he said while addressing a press conference today in Jammu according to KNS correspondent.

Choudhary praised the recent assembly election, emphasizing that it marked a significant moment for the region after years of political transition, stating, “After so long, democracy has been restored, and the elected government is being formed in Jammu and Kashmir.”

In response to questions about the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) celebrations around Jammu and Kashmir’s Union Territory status, Choudhary remarked, “They might be celebrating today, but deep down, they also wish for Jammu and Kashmir to regain statehood.”

On the long-standing tradition of the “Darbar Move” – the biannual shift of the government between Jammu and Srinagar – Choudhary highlighted its economic significance, especially for local businesses in Jammu.

He explained that the Darbar Move supports local hotels, transport services, and small businesses, offering a source of employment for many residents. He expressed the National Conference’s commitment to sustaining the move, describing it as essential to Jammu’s economic health rather than a mere tradition.

The Deputy CM urged BJP leaders to reflect on their electoral promises and examine their accomplishments during their tenure.

He pointed out that the National Conference, under the leadership of Farooq and Omar Abdullah, has consistently focused on representing the people’s needs and aspirations, including the demand for statehood.

Choudhary affirmed that the government is committed to meeting the public’s expectations, addressing Jammu and Kashmir’s economic issues, and advocating for the region’s return to full statehood. (KNS)

“How can we celebrate the humiliation of J&K,” he said. “The UT status is temporary and it is expected to end soon.”

Wani said promises had been made over the restoration of Statehood to J&K while Chief Minister Omar Abdullah recently went to New Delhi in this regard where he was promised its restoration as well.

From Humble Beginnings to Unmatched Success: The Journey of Iqra Farooq Bhat, JKAS Top Rank Holder in Kashmir

iqra

In a story that highlights resilience, dedication, and the power of dreams, Iqra Farooq Bhat, the daughter of a tailor from Zakura, Srinagar, has reached extraordinary heights. She has not only secured the first rank in the Kashmir region but also achieved the second rank in the entire Jammu and Kashmir region in the prestigious Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service (JKAS) exam. This outstanding accomplishment is a testament to her hard work, relentless perseverance, and desire to make a positive impact on society.

A Dream Born from Humble Beginnings

Iqra’s life journey is rooted in her humble background. Growing up in a modest household where her father worked as a tailor, she learned early the value of hard work and persistence. Despite financial limitations, her family always encouraged her to pursue education and never let obstacles stand in the way of her dreams. Iqra credits her family’s support and the values she was raised with as vital to her success.

As she worked toward her goal, she was deeply aware of the challenges she faced. However, she remained determined, focusing on turning her dream of serving the people of the Kashmir Valley into reality. This dedication saw her investing her energy and time in preparing for the JKAS exam, a rigorous process requiring extensive study, discipline, and determination.

Iqra’s Motivation: A Desire to Make a Difference

Speaking about her achievement, Iqra shared that her motivation stemmed from a desire to contribute positively to her community and the people of Kashmir. She always envisioned herself in a position where she could help address the issues facing the Valley and make a tangible difference. “I have always wanted to reach a position where I can make a difference,” she expressed with conviction.

This drive to make a meaningful impact became the foundation of her dedication to the JKAS examination. Throughout her preparation, Iqra remained focused on the potential her success could bring not only for her own career but also for the welfare of her community. This vision strengthened her resolve to persevere through the intense preparation process.

A Gruelling Preparation: Three Years of Dedication

The JKAS examination is one of the most challenging exams in the Jammu and Kashmir region. It demands a high level of knowledge, discipline, and consistent effort. Iqra committed herself to this demanding journey for three long years. Her preparation was marked by numerous sacrifices, late nights, and tireless study sessions, but her passion for achieving her goal kept her going. Each day, she immersed herself in books, practice papers, and mock tests, continuously pushing herself closer to her dream.

“I have spent countless hours studying, but I never let go of my dream,” she said. Iqra’s dedication did not falter despite the long hours and pressure associated with the examination. Instead, it only grew stronger with each passing day, as she reminded herself of the greater purpose her success would serve.

Overcoming Challenges and Setbacks

Like any challenging path, Iqra’s journey was not without its difficulties. She faced setbacks, moments of self-doubt, and the weight of the competitive atmosphere. However, Iqra learned to see these challenges as stepping stones rather than obstacles. She viewed each setback as an opportunity to learn, adapt, and improve her approach. Her resilience in the face of adversity became a defining aspect of her journey.

She recalls one instance where, despite her best efforts, she found herself struggling with a particular subject. Instead of letting it discourage her, she chose to focus on areas where she could improve, refining her strategy and maintaining her confidence. “I reminded myself that every difficulty was part of the journey,” she reflected.

Spiritual Strength and Family Support

Iqra has often acknowledged her faith as an integral source of her strength. She believes that her success is a blessing, saying, “By the grace of God, I have realized my long-held dream.” This belief gave her hope, especially during tough times, and helped her remain focused on her journey.

In addition to her faith, Iqra attributes her success to her family, who provided unwavering support throughout her preparation. Her parents encouraged her every step of the way, offering her the emotional support she needed to stay motivated. Iqra’s family, aware of the sacrifices she was making, took pride in her dedication, standing by her with love and encouragement. This familial support played a crucial role in helping her push through the most challenging times of her journey.

Achieving Success and Setting an Example

Iqra’s accomplishment has set a new benchmark for others aspiring to succeed in competitive examinations. She serves as a role model for young people, especially those from underprivileged backgrounds who may feel that certain dreams are out of reach. Iqra’s story reinforces that success is possible with hard work, determination, and an unwavering belief in oneself.

Her achievement not only shines a light on her resilience but also sends a message to all those who wish to pursue their dreams despite the odds. She has shown that with focus and perseverance, it is possible to break barriers and achieve greatness.

Future Goals: A Vision to Serve the Valley

As she embarks on the next chapter of her life, Iqra’s vision remains clear. Her goal is to use her position within the Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service to make a positive impact on the lives of people in the Valley. She hopes to address the issues that are close to her heart and to work towards creating a better future for the people of Kashmir.

In her own words, “I see this as the beginning of a long journey where I can contribute to the welfare of my people.” Iqra’s aspiration to serve the Valley goes beyond mere professional achievement. It is a mission to uplift her community, promote development, and bring about positive change.

Inspiring the Next Generation

Iqra’s story has inspired countless young people in Kashmir and beyond. Her journey stands as a reminder that one’s background or circumstances do not define one’s potential for success. She has shown that with passion, perseverance, and a strong support system, anyone can overcome obstacles and achieve their dreams.

Young people across the region are now looking up to Iqra as an example of what is possible through hard work. By sharing her story, she hopes to encourage others to pursue their goals without letting setbacks discourage them. She believes that every person has the potential to achieve their dreams if they are willing to work for them.

Conclusion

Iqra Farooq Bhat’s success in the JKAS examination is more than just a personal achievement—it is a beacon of hope and inspiration for everyone who dreams of making a difference. Her journey from a humble background to the top ranks of a prestigious examination highlights the power of dedication, resilience, and vision. Through her success, Iqra has not only paved the way for her future but has also set an example for young people everywhere, proving that dreams can indeed come true with hard work and perseverance.

As Iqra takes on her new role, her story serves as a reminder that even the most ambitious dreams are within reach if one is willing to put in the effort and remain committed to their vision. Her journey is a testament to the idea that true success is achieved not only through personal achievement but also by contributing to the welfare of others and uplifting one’s community.

“Battle of Narratives” is a Core Security Challenge in the Region: Former DGP R.R. Swain

JK Police

Former Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) R.R. Swain, emphasized the urgent need for narrative reformation and structural reforms in Jammu and Kashmir.

Swain described the “battle of narratives” as a core security challenge in the region, where separatist factions have built a misleading narrative, luring citizens with promises of prosperity and autonomy outside the Indian Union.

“The adversary’s message is potent and relentless,” Swain stated. “They promise that breaking away will lead to freedom from corruption, economic growth, and fair governance. We must actively counter this false hope with transparency and a demonstration of the genuine benefits that integration offers,”

he said while speaking at the Chanakya Defence Dialogue 2024 in New Delhi.

“Narrative propagated by the terrorist networks is that the local government is a puppet of the Indian state, and those who work for it are stooges and collaborators. There are enough anecdotal evidence available,” he said, as per the delhi based KNS correspondent.

Swain, a 1991 batch IPS officer, retired as DGP of Jammu and Kashmir in September 2024 after an extensive career, including leadership during the 1990s and service as Special DG in J&K’s Crime Investigation Department (CID) post-Article 370 abrogation. His experience provided a foundation for his discussion on the complexities of social cohesion, economic opportunities, and national security in J&K.

During his address, Swain highlighted the paradox of J&K’s economic landscape, where limited private-sector opportunities coexist with high demand for government jobs. “In a place with economic promise, youth still queue up for jobs with wages as low as 6,000 rupees per month, hoping for security and stability,” he noted. “This reliance on government jobs has created a dependency that hinders the growth of a sustainable economy.”

He added that while J&K attracts migrant laborers due to relatively higher wages, local youth often aspire to government roles, even in low-paying positions, such as Special Police Officer (SPO) roles that pay approximately 6,000 rupees monthly.

Swain pointed to data revealing that J&K’s government sector contributes to the state’s GDP at four times the national average, overshadowing private sector growth and creating economic stagnation. He argued that monopolistic business practices further entrench social and economic divides, making it harder for local entrepreneurs to thrive.

He urged policymakers to address these structural challenges and support an “organic, symbiotic private sector” to invigorate economic growth and reduce dependency on government jobs.

Swain outlined the significant role that separatist propaganda plays in fostering social discord, describing it as a “well-oiled narrative machine” that operates continuously to sow distrust of the Indian government. “This is a battle of narratives, and we are, at times, losing,” he warned. “While the adversary’s message is false, they have succeeded in making it believable. The Indian state must dismantle this misleading narrative by showcasing the tangible benefits it brings to the region.”

He stressed that separatists have glossed over government investments and welfare schemes, such as Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao and various employment initiatives, which benefit all communities in J&K. These efforts, he asserted, often go unnoticed due to the adversary’s grip on the region’s perception. “J&K’s integration with the national economy has supported infrastructure, education, and health, without bias,” Swain emphasized. “It’s time these facts are heard.

“The fact that more than 75 government welfare schemes supported at times jointly by the local government and the central government and many times exclusively by the central Government

are completely free from any kind of bias on the basis of caste, community, or religion. And the benefits of the development does not distinguish a Hindu from a Muslim, a Gujar from a Pahadi, a Jammuite from a Kashmir. And the Bhatti Bachao Bhatti Padao scheme ensures that all benefit across the spectrum on the basis of a community neutral criteria are astoundingly glossed over.”

Swain advocated for measures that would strengthen public institutions and improve transparency.

“We must build trust in governance through visible anti-corruption measures, judicial reforms, and community-oriented policing,” he said. “Only then can we create a foundation for lasting social cohesion,” he said according to KNS correspondent.

He argued that these reforms would enhance public confidence and ensure security, ultimately addressing the region’s internal security vulnerabilities.

Swain urged leaders to examine and challenge vested interests that obstruct private investment in J&K.

“The path to security is not only through vigilance but through opportunity,” he noted. “The people of J&K need a vibrant economy that welcomes entrepreneurship, fosters growth, and moves beyond dependency on government aid.” (KNS).

The Beautiful Sleeping Woman of Lolan: Unveiling a 3800-Year-Old Mystery from China’s Silk Road

Beautiful Sleeping Woman

In the heart of the vast, unforgiving deserts of China’s Xinjiang Province, archaeologists uncovered a captivating mystery: the beautifully preserved mummy of a woman from 3800 years ago. Known as the “Beautiful Sleeping Woman of Lolan,” this mysterious figure, with her fair complexion, high cheekbones, and intricately braided blonde hair, has astonished the world. Her presence on the ancient Silk Road defies historical expectations, challenging traditional beliefs about the area’s early inhabitants and adding a new layer to the story of ancient trade and cultural connections. Draped in a red garment that remains intact to this day, this woman’s life, identity, and burial have led to fascinating revelations about cultural exchange, identity, and preservation.

1. Uncovering the Mystery of the Beautiful Sleeping Woman of Lolan

The story of the Beautiful Sleeping Woman begins with her accidental discovery in the desert of Xinjiang. Archaeologists were stunned to find a mummy so well-preserved that her facial features and clothing remained almost untouched by time. This unexpected find became a source of fascination and curiosity, raising questions about who she was, how she lived, and why her remains were preserved so uniquely.

2. 3800 Years Preserved: The Astonishing Tale of Xinjiang’s Desert Mummy

Dating back nearly four millennia, the Lolan Woman is a remarkable example of natural preservation. The dry climate of Xinjiang’s desert created conditions that slowed down decomposition, keeping her body, clothing, and hair intact. Despite the harshness of the environment, the preservation of this mummy is considered one of the most astounding archaeological discoveries of our time.

3. Secrets of the Silk Road: The Caucasian Beauty Found in China’s Xinjiang

One of the most intriguing aspects of the Lolan Woman is her physical appearance, which aligns more with Caucasian features than the indigenous Asian populations typically associated with ancient China. This discovery suggests that people of diverse origins travelled along the Silk Road far earlier than previously believed, contributing to a more complex history of interaction between East and West.

4. A Red Garment Through Time: The Preservation of the Lolan Woman

Clothed in a vibrant red garment, the Lolan Woman’s attire stands as a symbol of cultural significance. The preservation of this dress is an archaeological marvel, allowing experts to study the textiles and styles of ancient times. Her red outfit also symbolises wealth and status, raising questions about her social standing and role within her community.

5. History and Mystery: The Beautiful Sleeping Woman’s Life and Death Revealed

The circumstances surrounding the Lolan Woman’s death remain a mystery. Her burial on the Silk Road hints at the possibility of her being a traveller or a trader who met her fate during a journey. However, her remains reveal no signs of trauma, leading experts to speculate that she may have passed away peacefully, succumbing to the challenges of the harsh desert environment.

6. Freckles and Fair Skin: Challenging Ancient Beliefs with the Lolan Mummy

The Lolan Woman’s appearance challenges previous beliefs about the region’s ancient population. Her light skin and freckles, as well as her high nose and cheekbones, indicate Caucasian features, which were not traditionally associated with ancient Xinjiang. This discovery is pivotal in rethinking the early history of the region and the movements of various ethnic groups along the Silk Road.

7. Cultural Crossroads: What the Lolan Woman Reveals About the Ancient Silk Road

The discovery of the Lolan Woman sheds light on the Silk Road’s role as a cultural and commercial bridge between East and West. Her presence along this ancient trade route suggests a significant exchange of ideas, goods, and people, making the Silk Road a far more multicultural and interconnected highway than previously understood.

8. Beauty Frozen in Time: Inside the Discovery of the Lolan Mummy

For archaeologists and historians, the discovery of the Lolan Woman was akin to unearthing a time capsule. Her intricate braids, well-defined facial features, and remarkably preserved clothing offer an authentic glimpse into the past. This beauty from the sands of time opens a window to a world that was thought to be lost forever.

9. Tracing Ancient Trade Routes: Insights from the Beautiful Sleeping Woman of Lolan

The Lolan Woman’s burial site suggests that the Silk Road’s influence extended far deeper than trade alone. Her grave provides evidence that travellers from distant lands frequently passed through this region, exchanging not only goods but also cultural practices, beliefs, and traditions, enriching the social landscape of the ancient world.

10. The Desert Mummy of Xinjiang: A Story of Life, Death, and Preservation

This mummy is more than a preserved figure from the past; she represents an ancient life frozen in time. The discovery of the Lolan Woman raises significant questions about ancient desert survival, methods of burial, and the unique conditions that led to her remarkable preservation for nearly 4000 years.

Conclusion

The Beautiful Sleeping Woman of Lolan is an extraordinary glimpse into a distant, mysterious world. Her preserved features, attire, and resting place on the Silk Road offer insights into early interactions between cultures, challenging previously held beliefs about the movements and identities of ancient populations. This ancient mummy tells a story of resilience, beauty, and cultural exchange, reshaping our understanding of early societies and the diverse exchanges that took place along the legendary Silk Road. The Lolan Woman stands as a silent yet powerful testament to an interconnected world that existed long before modern times.

Nasir Aslam Wani Urges People to Have Patience and Trust in the Government They Chose

nasir

Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani said on Saturday that the system in Jammu and Kashmir cannot operate under dual control, where the Chief Minister focuses on one area while the LG handles security.

“J&K is not like other states. We have made commitments to the people, and we will fulfill them,” he said, adding that the government should restore statehood. He noted that the government was formed a week ago and urged people to have patience and trust in the government they chose, assuring them that their issues will be addressed.

Regarding the Chief Minister’s meetings with the Home Minister, Defence Minister, and Prime Minister, he said these discussions aimed to resolve common people’s issues, and they assured support for J&K’s progress.

On the Darbar move, he mentioned that CM Omar Abdullah had already issued an order for its restoration, so there is no need for protests.

He also stated that the people mandated the National Conference, and the party is committed to resolving common issues, as J&K has been without elected representation for the last ten years.

Delay Even a Moment in Granting Statehood is a Sin Against People of Jammu & Kashmir: Sajad Lone

Sajad Lone

Peoples Conference president Sajad Gani Lone on Friday said that ‘’delay of even a moment in granting statehood is a sin against the people of Jammu & Kashmir”.

In a long post on X, Sajad Lone questioned the delay in grant of statehood to Jammu & Kashmir.

“Irrespective of the political differences that we have here amongst us, the union government needs to move fast on some issues. Delay of even a moment in granting statehood is a sin against the people of J and K. Statehood is our right not charity that the union government will think upon or ponder. Why should they delay it. Why did they take it away in the first place,” Lone posted.

Lone said the Supreme Court left the question of relegation of J&K State into a Union Territory, unanswered.

“And may I ask the Supreme Court that in disposing off the petition on statehood, there is one question which they left unanswered. Was the relegation of a state to UT within the realm of law or outside the realm of law. Why didn’t they answer this question. They did not endorse relegation lest it becomes a precedence and yet we are still without a state,” Lone said.

Lone further said that the CM of Jammu & Kashmir should be an inherent part of all meetings related to security.

“In the interim until we get a state, the CM of J&K should be an inherent part of all meetings related to security. The local inputs in strategising on security are indispensable. Whosoever the CM is— the people of J&K have voted in huge numbers. And the UT status should not be used as an excuse to exclude the government from vital issues. The CM should be a part of all deliberations. Exclusion of the CM is tantamount to humiliating the entire electoral exercise,” he said.

Lone also accused Omar Abdullah of being a glorified cheerleader of BJP.

“And an unsolicited word of advice for our CM. Wish you had not gone too far castigating everybody, accusing every one of colluding with BJP. That concept of untouchability, That self righteous drift and now a glorified cheerleader. That is a total comedown,” he said.

“We all know an elected CM has to work with centre. They have to go and meet the PM or other ministers. But there is a difference between constitutional duties and cheerleading,” he added—(KNO)

Kashmir Tourism Soars: Over 2,628509 Tourists, Including 35,254 International Visitors, Mark 2024 as a Milestone Year

Nodal Officers for Kashmir

The Kashmir Valley has seen an extraordinary boom in tourism this year, drawing over 2.6 million visitors from January 1 to September 30, 2024. Statistics provided by the Tourism Department reveal a total of 2,628,509 tourists, including 35,254 international travellers, illustrating the region’s rising appeal on the global tourism stage.

Monthly visitor data shows a steady rise: January brought in 199,398 visitors, including 2,167 from overseas. February saw 176,134 tourists, with 6,559 of them being foreigners. In March, the count reached 226,726, and April experienced a boost with 288,398 tourists, of whom 7,348 were international.

This upward trend continued in May, which saw 297,173 visitors, including 2,802 from abroad. June saw even greater numbers, with 378,022 total tourists, including 3,119 foreigners. July witnessed a record-breaking 526,465 arrivals, including 2,740 international visitors. August followed with 339,539 tourists, while September recorded 196,654 visitors, 3,446 of whom were foreigners.

A tourism official noted an uptick in domestic travellers exploring lesser-known areas of Kashmir, a change not previously observed at this scale.

This surge in tourism is a promising sign for Kashmir’s economy, significantly benefiting local hotels, small businesses, and travel operators. Government officials remain positive about Kashmir’s tourism prospects and are actively working to improve infrastructure to accommodate the growing numbers of visitors.

Officials attribute this tourism boom to several key factors. The highly successful G20 Tourism Meeting held in Srinagar earlier this year showcased Kashmir’s potential as a global tourist hub, sparking increased interest from travellers. Notably, the last two months have seen a marked increase in visitors following the G20 event.

Adding to this momentum, the Legends League Cricket tournament, also recently held in Srinagar, has further enhanced the region’s tourism prospects. Officials anticipate that this trend will continue, especially as winter approaches, drawing travellers eager to enjoy Kashmir’s snow-based activities.

Kashmir’s newfound popularity as a premier tourist destination reflects the government’s robust efforts to develop and promote tourism. The warm reception from international visitors highlights the success of these initiatives, demonstrating Kashmir’s appeal as an exceptional travel destination.(Department of Tourism J&K)
