AAP’s Mehraj Malik Withdraws Support from NC-Led J&K Government, Cites Public Interest

AAP’s Mehraj Malik

In a significant development, Mehraj Malik, the firebrand MLA from Doda and the sole MLA of the Aam Aadmi Party in J&K on Saturday announced withdrawal of support to NC-led government.

The firebrand legislator took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to announce his withdrawal of support from the ruling National Conference-led coalition.

“I, Mehraj Malik, MLA from Doda, hereby withdraw my support to NC in the government coalition. This decision has been taken in the best interest of my people of Jammu and Kashmir, whose trust and welfare will always be my top priority,” the legislator posted, as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).

While Malik’s exit does not threaten the government’s majority—the ruling coalition still has backing of 52 MLAs, well above the required number.

However, the real challenge for the government now lies in managing him on floor of the House.

In his fiery speeches in the last assembly session, he repeatedly accused the BJP and PDP of wrecking the state. He was assaulted by BJP MLAs and PDP workers in the House lobby, after he made disparaging remarks against the saffron party and late PDP founder Mufti Mohammed Sayeed—(KNO)

Srinagar Smart City Faces Backlash Over Footpath-to-Parking Conversion on MA Road

Srinagar Smart City

A decision by Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) to reportedly convert a portion of the footpath near the Polo Ground entrance on Maulana Azad (MA) Road into a paid parking space has sparked widespread anger among commuters and pedestrians, who allege that the move places lives at risk and defies the very principles of urban planning.
The stretch, located along one of the city’s most trafficked roads, has seen barriers and ropes installed to cordon off what was once pedestrian space—leaving those on foot with no choice but to step onto the road, dangerously close to speeding traffic.
“Footpaths are meant for people, not for parking,” said Idrees Sheikh, a regular commuter. “We are now being forced into traffic just to get past. It’s completely unsafe.”
Locals have described the move as short-sighted and emblematic of misplaced priorities. “This is what passes for a Smart City?” asked Sajad Andrabi, a resident of Rajbagh. “Endangering pedestrians to accommodate more vehicles is neither smart nor sustainable.”
Many believe the move defeats the core aim of the Smart City mission—improving urban mobility and liveability. “If people can’t walk safely in their own city, what’s the point of these grand projects?” said Aasif Mir, a frequent walker along MA Road.
Residents of Srinagar areas who commute through M A Road stated that this is not an isolated incident. “Across Srinagar, walkways are increasingly obstructed by illegal parking, street vendors, or construction,” they alleged. The MA Road episode, they argue, reflects a worrying trend of neglecting pedestrian rights.
“When government bodies themselves start occupying footpaths, what message does that send?” asked Murtaza Ahanger of Hyderpora. “It encourages more violations and sends the signal that public safety comes second.” Commuters are urging authorities to implement long-term traffic and parking solutions—such as multi-storey car parks—rather than sacrificing essential pedestrian infrastructure. “This is a patchwork fix,” said Haseeb Khan, another daily commuter. “Smart cities require smart planning—not shifting problems from one place to another.”
In response to the backlash, a senior official at SSCL, speaking anonymously, acknowledged the issue and said the matter would be addressed. “Pedestrian safety remains a key priority under the Smart City framework,” the official stated. “We will review the situation and take corrective measures if necessary.” For now, the footpath remains blocked—and Srinagar’s pedestrians continue to walk a dangerous line between poor planning and moving traffic.

Noushaba Jeelani: Kashmir’s ‘Saffron Queen’ Empowering Women and Taking Local Spice Global

Noushaba Jeelani

Noushaba Jeelani, popularly known as the ‘Saffron Queen of Kashmir’, has turned a traditional crop into a global sensation, with an aim of women’s empowerment. Her saffron brand ‘Noush’ exports saffron in Europe and the Middle East.

Jeelani involved hundreds of local women in saffron harvesting, packaging, and quality control, turning saffron cultivation into a sustainable livelihood. Her startup has collaborated with global e-commerce platforms and luxury wellness brands, putting Kashmir’s saffron back on the worldwide map.

Speaking to ANI, Noushaba Jeelani said, “We shifted to Saudi Arabia for five years. Seeing a decline in the saffron business, we thought to come back and give a new identity to an already running business. We did a survey and found that people did not know about adulteration.”

She said that the firm has a network of 600 farmers, and growing and sowing are done by women, as the initiative aimed at empowering them.

Discussing the challenges they faced initially, she said the lack of education among people, as they could not differentiate between Kashmiri and foreign saffron.

“We have our in-house production and processing, so quality control is in our hands, so we make sure we give unadulterated saffron. In the survey, the farmers said their monetary return isn’t included in the business. We wanted to show the process to the farmers so they get a return on their money,” she said.

She said, “We want the women who grow and process saffron to feel empowered and build a community. Basic vision is to grow more saffron, we want to take it forward and want more women to join.”

Giving a message to young girls, Jeelani said, “Today, girls are brave and focused. I would say, do what you want and take the first step. You will evolve as you enter the process… Be fearless.”

Her husband, Afan Basu, told ANI, “We took the initiative to support my wife. In families, women control the work of saffron. In parallel to our B2B business, we wanted to have a women-led, women-empowered (business). In Kashmir’s culture, women don’t open up to men, so we wanted to build a society of empowered women and transparency from top to bottom.”

On building a Kashmir brand, Basu said, “In India, there are a lot of brands which sell foreign saffron. Here we have the GI tag also, but if you go out of Kashmir and ask for saffron, they will name brands which do not belong to Kashmir… This is our identity, like apples and walnuts.” (ANI)

Viral Video of Indian Student Handcuffed at Newark Airport Sparks Outrage and Embassy Response

For Indians

A deeply disturbing video showing an Indian student being handcuffed, restrained, and pinned to the ground at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey has gone viral on social media, drawing widespread condemnation and prompting a formal response from the Indian Embassy in the United States.

Incident Sparks Global Outcry

The video, filmed on June 8, 2025, by Indian-American entrepreneur Kunal Jain, shows a visibly distressed young Indian man surrounded by at least four security personnel. Two officers are seen pressing their knees into the student’s back while others tie his hands and legs. The student can be heard crying and yelling in Hindi, pleading, “Main pagal nahi hoon, yeh mujhe pagal bana rahe hain” (“I’m not mad, they are trying to prove that I’m mad”).

Jain shared the footage on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), calling the treatment “inhuman and heartbreaking.” He added, “He came chasing dreams, not causing harm. As an NRI, I felt helpless and heartbroken. This is a human tragedy.”

Eyewitness Account Reveals Shocking Details

Speaking to NDTV, Jain said that the student appeared confused and disoriented, likely due to stress or a breakdown in communication. According to him, airport officials and police did not understand the student’s language, which led to further complications.

“There were about 50 people around, but nobody dared to intervene. I tried to help translate what he was saying, but the officers did not allow me to speak,” Jain said.

He explained that the student was likely denied boarding because the airline considered him a “threat to other passengers” after his erratic behavior. “They should have handled it with more sensitivity,” Jain added, emotionally recalling how the student was dragged away in full view of dozens of passengers.

Indian Embassy Responds

The Indian Consulate in New York responded swiftly to public concern after the video went viral. In an official statement posted on June 9, the Embassy said:

“We have come across social media posts claiming that an Indian national is facing difficulties at Newark Liberty International Airport. We are in touch with local authorities in this regard. The Consulate remains ever committed to the welfare of Indian Nationals.”

While no further personal details about the student were disclosed, sources confirmed that he was deported back to India on the same day.

Legal and Human Rights Questions Raised

The incident has reignited concerns about how U.S. immigration authorities treat foreign nationals, especially students and asylum seekers. Human rights advocates argue that such methods—handcuffing, shackling, and public humiliation—should not be applied to individuals who are not charged with criminal offenses.

Legal experts have pointed out that the lack of language support and the refusal to allow a bilingual witness to intervene may have escalated the situation unnecessarily. Civil rights organizations have called for an investigation into whether protocols were violated.

Resurfacing of Past Deportation Incidents

This incident brings back painful memories of similar mass deportations under U.S. President Donald Trump’s ongoing crackdown on immigration. In February 2025, over 100 Indian migrants were flown back to India in shackles—hands cuffed, legs tied—drawing comparisons with the treatment of hardened criminals. That event had prompted outrage across India, especially from the political opposition, who questioned why the Indian government did not intervene sooner or send planes to retrieve its citizens with dignity.

Call for Humane Treatment and Policy Review

The latest incident has sparked a broader debate among Indian communities abroad, immigration advocates, and political observers about the vulnerability of international students and travelers, particularly in a climate of tightening immigration policies in the U.S.

Many are now demanding that the Indian government work more proactively to safeguard its citizens abroad, ensure fair treatment in immigration-related situations, and provide immediate consular access in such cases.

As investigations continue and the video continues to gain traction online, pressure is mounting on both the Indian and U.S. authorities to address the matter transparently and ensure such incidents are not repeated.

Faizan Shakeel Badhana Becomes First Gujjar from North Kashmir to Crack IIT-JEE Advanced in First Attempt

Faizan Shakeel Badhana

Faizan Shakeel Badhana, a young student from the remote village of Nachayan in Karnah, Kupwara, has become the first from the Gujjar community in north Kashmir to crack the IIT-JEE Advanced, one of India’s toughest engineering entrance exams in his very first attempt.
Hailing from an area where basic educational infrastructure remains a challenge, Faizan’s journey is proof of resilience, self-belief, and determination. “If I can do it, anyone can,” he told Rising Kashmir with quiet pride.
Faizan received his primary education in Nachayan before moving to Srinagar in 8th grade. He completed his 10th grade at New Convent School, and went on to pursue his higher secondary education at SP Secondary School. It was during his 12th grade, after joining RISE Institute in Srinagar for coaching, that he truly began to understand the path to competitive exams like IIT-JEE.
“Until class 10, we had very little idea of what engineering or JEE even meant,” Faizan recalls. “It was only after speaking with a cousin, who was studying Computer Science Engineering, that I became interested in the field.”
Despite the lack of coaching centres or educational resources in his village, Faizan’s drive pushed him forward. He had earlier qualified the NDA written exam, scoring 97 percentile, and was awaiting the viva at the time. He also cleared both stages of a Mathematics Olympiad, as well as Stage 1 and Stage 2 of the NDE (National Defence Examination), eventually qualifying for the GED (General Engineering Diploma entrance).
“I was the first student from my class to qualify for the GED,” he said. “We didn’t know what these exams were or what to do after qualifying them. Exposure is key.”
Faizan credits his success not just to hard work, but to the timely mentorship he received. “When I joined RISE, everything changed. The teachers, especially Mr. Azaan, guided me at every step. I didn’t even know how to study before that,” he admits.
He highlighted the role of proper direction in competitive exam preparation. “Even if someone works hard, without the right guidance, they might fall behind. It’s crucial to have someone to show the way.”

PM Modi Inaugurates Chenab Railway Bridge and Anji Bridge, Uniting Kashmir with India via Historic Rail Link

Modi Inaugurates Chenab Railway

In a momentous step towards strengthening India’s connectivity and national integration, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated two iconic engineering marvels in Jammu and Kashmir — the Chenab Railway Bridge, the world’s highest railway arch bridge, and India’s first cable-stayed rail bridge, the Anji Bridge. Both projects are part of the strategically vital Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL), which aims to seamlessly connect the Kashmir Valley with the rest of India via rail for the first time in history.

The Ceremonial Inauguration

Standing on the deck of the majestic Chenab Railway Bridge in Reasi district, PM Modi waved the Indian national flag — the Tiranga — in a symbolic gesture of unity, progress, and national pride. The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of key dignitaries including Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, and former J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

The Prime Minister also interacted with the engineers, workers, and project teams involved in the construction of the bridges, acknowledging their tireless dedication in overcoming extreme geographical and climatic challenges to make this vision a reality.

Chenab Railway Bridge: A Global Marvel

Rising 359 metres above the riverbed, the Chenab Railway Bridge is officially the tallest railway arch bridge in the world, surpassing even the Eiffel Tower in height. It is constructed over the turbulent waters of the Chenab River and connects the Katra-to-Sangaldan section of the USBRL project.

Designed to withstand strong winds, earthquakes, and blasts, the bridge showcases cutting-edge engineering with a steel and concrete arch spanning 1,315 metres, supported by specially constructed foundations embedded deep into the rocky Himalayan terrain.

This bridge not only signifies a technological feat but also plays a key role in reducing the travel time between Jammu and Srinagar, promising faster movement of people and goods across the region.

Anji Bridge: India’s First Cable-Stayed Rail Bridge

Alongside the Chenab bridge, PM Modi also inaugurated the Anji Khad Bridge, India’s first cable-stayed railway bridge. Suspended elegantly between mountain peaks, the Anji Bridge is a critical link between Katra and Reasi, forming another vital part of the USBRL alignment.

The 473.25-metre-long bridge features a central pylon soaring 193 metres, from which steel cables fan out to support the deck. The design not only ensures structural strength in the face of extreme wind conditions but also offers a visually stunning architectural presence against the Himalayan backdrop.

The USBRL Project: A Dream Realised

The Chenab and Anji bridges are integral parts of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL), a 272 km long mega project valued at ₹43,780 crore. Consisting of 36 tunnels (spanning 119 km) and 943 bridges, the project was initiated to overcome the isolation of the Kashmir Valley and bring it onto India’s national railway grid.

First envisioned in the early 2000s, USBRL faced decades of delays due to the area’s difficult terrain, seismic sensitivity, and security concerns. However, successive governments continued to push the project forward. With today’s inauguration, Kashmir’s first direct rail link to Delhi and the rest of India is now functionally complete.

Transformational Impact for Jammu and Kashmir

The rail link is expected to revolutionise connectivity, promote tourism, boost trade, and create jobs across Jammu and Kashmir. The all-weather rail corridor will also serve strategic defense needs, allowing rapid troop and supply movement in times of need.

Additionally, PM Modi flagged off two Vande Bharat Express trains between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Srinagar. These high-speed trains will provide safe, modern, and comfortable travel options for local commuters, pilgrims, and tourists alike.

A Step Towards Inclusive Development

In his address, PM Modi highlighted how the completion of these bridges and the USBRL rail corridor reflects the government’s broader commitment to Sabka Vikas (development for all). “These bridges are not just steel and concrete — they are symbols of unity, trust, and the unwavering spirit of New India,” the Prime Minister remarked.

He added that better connectivity in border and mountainous regions is essential not only for economic progress but also for strengthening emotional and national bonds.

Conclusion

The inauguration of the Chenab Railway Bridge and Anji Bridge marks a historic chapter in India’s infrastructure story. By bridging vast Himalayan distances and longstanding regional gaps, the Indian Railways — under the leadership of PM Modi — has brought Kashmir closer to the heart of the nation. These engineering marvels are more than just bridges; they are promises of peace, prosperity, and national unity.

Massive Security Setup for 2025 Amarnath Yatra After Terror Attack: 581 CAPF Companies, Drones, Jammers Deployed

Amarnath Yatra

The Amarnath Yatra, a 38-day pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine in Jammu and Kashmir, has been secured with a massive deployment of 581 Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) companies, jammers, and drones.

This extensive security arrangement aims to ensure the safe passage of devotees during the sacred journey. It comes in the backdrop of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 tourists were killed.

Besides, top official sources mentioned that all roads leading to the Yatra routes and National Highways will be temporarily blocked to ensure maximum security during the convoy’s passage.

In addition to these measures, a comprehensive deployment will include Road Opening Parties (ROPs) to secure and clear the routes, Quick Action Teams (QATs) for immediate response to threats,

Bomb Disposal Squads (BDS) will detect and neutralise explosives, and K9 units (specially trained sniffer dogs) and drones will be used for aerial surveillance.

These arrangements will be in place on both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes to the Amarnath Cave Shrine in Jammu and Kashmir.

For the first time, the officials said, jammers will be installed to protect the Shri Amarnathji Yatra convoy during its movement, which will be escorted by Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs).

The Annual Hindu pilgrimage, scheduled to take place from July 3 to August 9, will be conducted over a reduced duration of 38 days for the first time this year. This year’s Yatra is comparatively shorter than last year’s 52-day pilgrimage.

Officials said that “preparations are in full swing to ensure a secure, seamless, and well-coordinated Yatra.”

“Regular high-level coordination meetings are being held with the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board, Divisional Administration, J-K Police, and other CAPFs to review and streamline security, logistics, and overall administration arrangements.”

In a recent review visit, Director General of Central Reserve Police Force Gyanendra Pratap Singh personally inspected key sites, including Pahalgam, Jammu, base camps, and Yatri Niwas, to oversee on-ground preparedness and ensure that comprehensive measures are in place for the safety and convenience of the pilgrims.

The Shri Amarnathji Yatra is an annual Hindu pilgrimage to the sacred Amarnath Cave Shrine, dedicated to Lord Shiva, located at an altitude of about 3,888 meters in the Himalayas of Jammu and Kashmir (J-K). The cave houses a naturally formed ice Shivling, believed to represent Lord Shiva, and draws lakhs of devotees every year.

The Yatra is typically held during the Shravan month (July to August) as per the Hindu calendar, under the supervision of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) and with coordinated support from security and civil administration. (ANI)

Virat Kohli Dedicates Maiden IPL Title to Bengaluru, Reflects on Future After RCB’s Historic Win

Kohli Dedicates Maiden IPL

Following his side’s first-ever Indian Premier League (IPL) title win, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) star batter Virat Kohli dedicated the win to the state of Bengaluru and opened up on how he wants to go forward for the rest of his franchise cricket career.

Virat’s wait for a maiden IPL title win came to an end as spectacular bowling from RCB helped them defeat Punjab Kings (PBKS) by six runs in an absolute thriller of a final at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on Tuesday.

Speaking about his career in the post-match interview, Virat said that he is still finding ways to improve and make an impact on the field for the entirety of 20 overs.

“Well, I have an opportunity to play this game for not many years. So there is an end date to our career, as you know. And by the time that I hang up my boots, I want to sit at home and say I gave it everything I had. So I look for ways to improve. I cannot play as an impact player, I want to feel 20 overs and make an impact in the field. That is the kind of player I have been. And God blessed me with that perspective, with the talent. And then you find different ways to help the team,” said the star batter.

“This management, this group of players, has been outstanding, to be honest. They have gotten the right kind of players, match winners, people who take the game on. In the auction, a lot of people questioned our tactics. But by day two, we were very happy with what we had. And we had a lot of confidence in the strength of this group. And I want to give a big shout-out to this team. It would not have been possible without each and every one in the squad, in the playing XI, the management backing the players, keeping us positive throughout when the going got tough. So it is everyone’s . I do not want to stand here and talk about myself. There is a lot that is spoken about me already. This win is for Bangalore. And it is for each and every one of the players, and the families, and the whole management as well,” he concluded.

Coming to the match, PBKS won the toss and elected to bowl first. Arshdeep Singh (3/40) and Kyle Jamieson (3/48) applied timely breaks with the ball, while Yuzi Chahal (1/37) also prevented batters from attacking. While Virat (43 in 35 balls, with three fours) tried to keep the innings together, skipper Rajat Patidar (26 in 16 balls, with a four and two sixes), Jitesh Sharma (24 in 10 balls, with two fours and two sixes) and Liam Livingstone (25 in 15 balls, with two fours) upped the attack enough to help RCB post 190/9 in 20 overs.

In the run-chase, PBKS started well with Priyansh Arya (24 in 19 balls, with four boundaries) and Prabhsimran (26 in 22 balls, with two sixes) stitching a 43-run stand. Josh Inglis (39 in 23 balls, with a four and four sixes) and Shashank Singh (61* in 30 balls, three wins and six sixes) tried their level best to keep up with the rising run rate, but Krunal Panddya (2/17), Yash Dayal (1/18) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2/38) put a fine show with the ball to restrict PBKS to 184/7, despite a sensational 22 runs smashed by Shashank in the final over while needing 29.

The title wait continues for PBKS, who reached their second final and their first in 11 years. (ANI)

Urs of Shah-i-Hamadan: Honouring the Saint Who Shaped Kashmir’s Spiritual and Cultural Legacy

Khanqah-e-Moula

Each year, on the 6th of Zil-Hijjah, thousands of Kashmiris gather in reverence and reflection to commemorate the Urs of Hazrat Mir Syed Ali Hamadani (RA), popularly known as Shah-i-Hamadan or Amir-i-Kabir. This annual observance marks the death anniversary—or more spiritually, the wedding to the divine—of the 14th-century Persian Sufi saint who played a pivotal role in shaping the spiritual, cultural, and socio-economic landscape of Kashmir.

The Life and Mission of Shah-i-Hamadan

Born in 1314 CE in Hamadan, Iran, Shah-i-Hamadan was a descendant of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) from both parental lines. He was a renowned scholar, Sufi, poet, and missionary of the Kubrawiya Sufi order, who travelled extensively across Central and South Asia. He visited Kashmir three times between 1372 and 1383 CE, accompanied by hundreds of disciples and artisans.

His mission was more than religious preaching—it was a transformative project that introduced Kashmir to a new spiritual path rooted in Sufi Islam, along with reforms in education, ethics, and economy. He laid the foundation of what would later be known as Kashmir’s Islamic identity, blending Persian influence with local culture in a peaceful, inclusive manner.

Main Venue: Khanqah-e-Moula in Srinagar

The heart of the Urs celebrations lies in Khanqah-e-Moula, the historic shrine built on the banks of the Jhelum River in Srinagar. Constructed in 1395 by Sultan Sikandar in honour of Shah-i-Hamadan, this khanqah (Sufi hospice) remains an iconic centre of faith and culture. Other places like Khanqah Faizpanah (Tral), Jinab Sahab (Soura), Aasar Sharif Kalashpora, and shrines in Anantnag, Budgam, Kupwara, and Bandipora also witness large gatherings.

During the Urs, these shrines are adorned with lights and banners, their courtyards filled with pilgrims who come to offer prayers and immerse themselves in the saint’s spiritual legacy.

Traditions and Devotional Activities

The Urs is not just a ritual event—it is a multi-layered spiritual experience. Devotees from all walks of life participate in:

  • Shab Khwani (Night-long Prayers): Chanting of Quranic verses, Naats (poetry in praise of the Prophet), Aurad-i-Fathiya (special invocations), and Khatam-e-Sharief are performed collectively.
  • Spiritual Discourses: Scholars and clerics recount the life, teachings, and impact of Shah-i-Hamadan, emphasising his work on monotheism, inner purification, and social justice.
  • Festive Atmosphere: The area around Khanqah-e-Moula transforms into a vibrant cultural space, with food stalls, traditional crafts, and families feeding pigeons—considered a sacred act.
  • Charitable Services: Langars (community kitchens), water stalls, and free medical camps are often arranged to serve the devotees.

Social and Cultural Contributions

Shah-i-Hamadan’s legacy is not limited to religious teachings. He introduced various Persian arts and crafts to Kashmir, such as:

  • Papermaking
  • Wood carving
  • Calligraphy
  • Carpet weaving
  • Silk production

These crafts not only transformed the region’s economy but also placed Kashmir on the global map for its exquisite artisanship.

Moreover, Shah-i-Hamadan’s arrival marked a shift toward ethical governance, education, and public welfare in medieval Kashmir. His disciples helped establish mosques, libraries, and spiritual learning centres, while his own writings—like Chahlul Asraar and Awrad-i-Fathiyya—became spiritual guidebooks for generations.

Unity in Devotion

The Urs of Shah-i-Hamadan is more than a religious event—it is a reflection of Kashmir’s composite heritage, where devotion, cultural pride, and communal unity intersect. Despite political changes and social challenges, the faithful continue to gather peacefully every year, reaffirming their commitment to the values of harmony and compassion that Shah-i-Hamadan stood for.

The 660th Urs, observed on June 2–3, 2025, saw thousands gather at the shrine in Srinagar. Leaders including the Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir extended greetings and highlighted the saint’s enduring relevance in promoting peace and coexistence. Arrangements were made by the J&K Muslim Waqf Board, including tents, sanitation, and medical aid for the convenience of the pilgrims.

A Legacy That Lives On

Even centuries after his passing, Shah-i-Hamadan’s influence continues to shape the spiritual landscape of Kashmir. His emphasis on inner purification, service to humanity, and unity among people of different backgrounds resonates with contemporary challenges and aspirations.

The Urs is a sacred pause in Kashmir’s yearly rhythm—a time to reflect, reconnect, and revive the teachings of a man whose life remains a beacon of light in the valley’s history.

In the words of a devotee at Khanqah-e-Moula:
“We come here every year not just to remember a saint, but to remind ourselves of who we are as a people—rooted in faith, guided by knowledge, and bound by love.”

Apni Party’s Rafi Ahmad Mir Urges J&K Statehood Restoration in Meeting with LG Manoj Sinha

Rafi Ahmad Mir

Apni Party leader Rafi Ahmad Mir on Sunday said that the delegation of the party, during a meeting with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, discussed several pressing issues and reiterated the demand for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood.

Speaking to ANI, Mir said, “..We apprised them about the situation on the ground and had a discussion on various issues…I am hopeful that all our concerns will be resolved…We also talked about restoring the statehood of J&K…”
The delegation also included senior leader Mohammad Dilawar Mir, who raised concerns about the economic impact of sudden weather changes on tourism-related sectors in the region.
“We discussed various issues in the meeting… A survey should be conducted to assess the damage caused by the sudden change in weather… We urged the Lieutenant Governor to provide relief to hoteliers, taxi owners as their businesses have been affected due to tourists not coming to Jammu and Kashmir… We also discussed issues related to our constituencies,” Mohammad Dilawar Mir informed ANI.
On April 15, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said that he is hopeful that Jammu and Kashmir will “regain” the status of a state.
The restoration of Article 370, the reinstatement of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, and the implementation of the autonomy resolution were key promises in the National Conference’s manifesto for the J-K elections.
In August 2019, the Central Government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, repealed Article 370 of the Indian Constitution, effectively ending the special status given to Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcating the state into two Union Territories – Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. (ANI)

India Now Ahead of Pakistan on All Fronts Due to Long-Term Strategy: CDS General Anil Chauhan

CDS General Anil Chauhan

Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan said India today is ahead of Pakistan on all fronts despite greater diversity than the neighbouring country due to its long-term strategy.

At the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, CDS Chauhan noted that both countries gained independence at the same time, and Pakistan was ahead of India in various metrics, including social, economic, and GDP per capita, but today, New Delhi is ahead of them.

“Now, on the India-Pakistan relationship, we are not operating without a strategy. When we gained independence, Pakistan was ahead of us on every metric: social, economic, and GDP per capita. Today, India is ahead on all fronts: economic performance, human development, and social harmony, despite our greater diversity. That didn’t happen by accident; it’s a result of long-term strategy,” he said.

“Diplomatically, we’ve reached out like in 2014 when the PM invited Nawaz Sharif. But it takes two hands to clap. If all we get in return is hostility, then disengagement may itself be a sound strategy for now,” CDS Chauhan added.

CDS General Anil Chauhan also interacted with Admiral Samuel J Paparo, Commander of US INDOPACOM, USA, reinforcing defence ties.

Their discussions centred on Operation Sindoor, strengthening military-to-military cooperation and opportunities to foster collaboration in the Indo-Pacific, in the backdrop of the dynamic regional security landscape.

Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to address emerging security challenges and deepen strategic ties.

Meanwhile, India and Brazil strengthened their bilateral ties at the sidelines of the Shangri-La Dialogue 2025, reaffirming their commitment to a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific.

Both nations emphasised cooperation on regional security, maritime freedom and sustainable development.

General Anil Chauhan and Admiral Aguiar Freire, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, Brazil, discussed shared values and interests, underscoring the importance of a rules-based international order and a growing convergence of views between India and Brazil on regional and global issues. (ANI)

Salman Khurshid: PoK Must Return to India, Talks Only if Pakistan Ends Terror Support

Salman Khurshid

Salman Khurshid, Congress Leader and All-Party Delegation member, said that Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir must be given back to India.

Khurshid, in conversation with ANI, said that India has clearly stated that talks can happen only when Pakistan’s commitment to peace is clear, including talks on the Indus Water Treaty.

“There is a long standing unanimous resolution of parliament of India saying that the Pakistan occupied Kashmir must be re-vacated and given back to India and as you know that even in the assembly of Jammu and Kashmir, the seats that should have been in that area are kept vacant just for this reason that we have we have a long term commitment that the area is to come back to us. That’s one important factor,” he said.

Khurshid further said that attempts at making peace were negated by Pakistan, as it continued to attack India over the years.

“The second is that the government has reiterated this because you know, often questions are asked about will you talk, will you not talk, etc. We have expressed our distress that repeated attempts to talk and negotiate have been betrayed by Pakistan by a subsequent attack and several attacks that happened over the years,” he said.

Khurshid said that talks can happen only when Pakistan’s support for terrorism stops. Till then, the Indus Water Treaty will be in abeyance.

“But the government has said clearly that talks can happen only when the commitment of Pakistan to peace is clear that their support for terrorism is cogently shown to have stopped, and only then can there be a conversation with Pakistan. And that includes the Indus Water treaty being put in abeyance, that even on that issue, further talks can only happen once terrorism is given a complete stop and completely given up,” he said.

Khurshid said that India took kinetic steps to eliminate terrorist hubs in Pakistan, and their retaliation thereafter was met with India neutralizing the basis of their offensive.

“So it has been made clear that now we are taking several steps, steps that we took which are called kinetic steps of trying to eliminate the terrorist hubs in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, which is the first thing we did. And then when there was a retaliation without escalating any further, we responded to that retaliation by neutralising the basis from which retaliation was coming,” he said.

Khurshid also said Indonesia was more supportive than they expected.

“I believe that Indonesia was far more supportive than we were even expecting, and we expressed our gratitude for that. They reiterated the condolence and the support messages that had already come from the president and have already come from the ASEAN headquarters, etc. and they took a lot of interest, reiterated the support that they’ve given,” he said.

Khurshid added that as of now, they had met the Secretary General of ASEAN, and it depends on the rest of the countries to take the matter up at their next meeting.

“The issue now is of course ASEAN at its next meeting can take up the matter further because we will only talk to the Secretary General, but as far as the government and the representatives of Indonesia are concerned, they were very, very supportive, including the political parties, some of whom we will continue to meet today,” he said.

Khurshid said that Indonesia was supportive of the Indian stance, and Pakistan’s false narratives on the attack were rejected.

“They were extremely supportive of India’s position. And the so-called narrative that was pushed by the chief of army staff in Pakistan, now a field marshal, that narrative was completely, completely negated and rejected in our conversations,” he said.

Khurshid is a part of an All-Party Delegation. The delegation, led by JD-U MP Sanjay Kumar Jha, includes Aparajita Sarangi (BJP), TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee, Brij Lala (BJP), John Brittas (CPI-M), Pradan Baruah (BJP), Hemang Joshi (BJP), Salman Khurshid and Mohan Kumar.

The delegation is visiting many countries as part of India’s global outreach against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. The delegation has so far visited Japan, South Korea, and Singapore. (ANI)

PM Modi: Pahalgam Attack Was Assault on Humanity, India Gave Fitting Reply Through Operation Sindoor

PM Modi

Describing tourism as a celebration of diversity, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that what happened to tourists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam is an attack on “humanity” and “brotherhood”.

Addressing the “Sikkim@50: Where Progress Meets Purpose and Nature Nurtures Growth” programme from Bagdogra in West Bengal through videoconference, the Prime Minister said that India gave the terrorists a fitting reply through Operation Sindoor in response to the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives.

“All you people of Sikkim understand the power of tourism well. Tourism is not just about entertainment but also a celebration of diversity. But what terrorists did in Pahalgam wasn’t just an attack on India but on humanity and brotherhood. The terrorist snatched away the happiness of many families in India. They also conspired to divide India. But the whole world is seeing how India is more united than ever… We unitedly gave the terrorists a fitting reply through Operation Sindoor. After we destroyed their terrorist hubs, Pakistan, in a fit of rage, attacked our civilians and Army. This exposed Pakistan. By destroying many of their airbases, we showed them how precisely and swiftly India can act,” the Prime Minister said.

“Sikkim decided a democratic future for itself 50 years ago… The people of Sikkim believed that when everyone’s voice was heard and everyone’s rights were protected, everyone would have the same opportunities for progress. Today, I can say that the belief of each family in Sikkim has strengthened. In the last 50 years, Sikkim has become a model of nature and progress. In these 50 years, such stars have emerged from Sikkim who have illuminated India’s sky,” the Prime Minister added.

He further pointed out that Viksit Bharat will be formed on four strong pillars—–poor, farmers, women, and the youth. He hailed the efforts of farmers of Sikkim, calling it at the forefront of the new trend of agriculture.

“Viksit Bharat will be formed on four strong pillars: the poor, farmers, women, and the youth… On today’s occasion, I want to show appreciation to the farmers of Sikkim with an open heart. Sikkim is at the forefront of the new trend of agriculture towards which the country is moving today… To promote Sikkim’s Organic Basket, the Central Government is constructing the country’s first Organic Fishery Cluster in Sikkim… This will generate new opportunities for the youth of Sikkim,” he noted.

“During the NITI Aayog Governing Council’s meeting in Delhi, I said that every state should develop such tourist destinations that can establish themselves internationally. The time has come for Sikkim to become a global tourist destination… Sikkim also has a vast potential for adventure and sports tourism… Our dream is to make Sikkim a hub of conferences, wellness, and concert tourism… I want the world’s biggest artists to perform in the valleys of Gangtok. We conducted G20 meetings in Sikkim so the world could understand the state’s potential. I am glad that the NDA government in Sikkim is making this vision a reality,” the Prime Minister added.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the Prime Minister will also visit West Bengal, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh on May 29 and 30, inaugurating and laying the foundation stones of development projects worth more than Rs 70,000 crore.
