Allegations Over Remarks Against Senior Leaders

Speaking to Kashmir News Service (KNS), Shaheen claimed that after becoming Chief Minister, Farooq Abdullah referred to members of his father Sheikh Abdullah’s ministerial council and allegedly said, “All these are thieves, I want to drown them in the pond.”

Shaheen described the statement as a serious insult to party leaders who had supported the vision of party founder Sheikh Abdullah after 1953 and had made personal sacrifices for the movement.

Claim About Bhuwan Tiku

Shaheen said senior leader Bhuwan Tiku was deeply hurt by the remarks and reportedly questioned why loyal party workers were being accused.

According to Shaheen, many leaders who had endured hardships for the party felt disrespected by the comments.

Allegations of Weakening the Party

Shaheen further alleged that Farooq Abdullah tried to weaken the National Conference from within and supported weak candidates during elections.

However, despite his criticism, Shaheen acknowledged Farooq Abdullah’s political stature, saying that there is currently no leader greater than him within the party.

Praise for Ghulam Ahmad Shah’s Tenure

Shaheen praised the two-and-a-half-year government led by former Chief Minister Ghulam Ahmad Shah, calling it the best administration the state had witnessed.

While admitting that riots occurred during that period, he claimed there was no loss of life and described Shah as a law-abiding and religious person.

Claims Regarding Indira Gandhi and NC Politics

Shaheen also alleged that former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was unhappy with Farooq Abdullah and wanted him removed from power.

According to Shaheen, a section of the National Conference supported Ghulam Ahmad Shah at that time to prevent further political instability.

“Decline Began After Sheikh Abdullah”

Shaheen concluded by saying that the National Conference began facing difficulties after the death of Sheikh Abdullah.

“Our destruction began with the passing of Sheikh Sahib,” he said, claiming that the party’s troubles started during that period
