Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr Moulvi Mohammad Umar Farooq on Wednesday stressed that a relationship with the Holy Qur’an should go beyond simply memorising its verses. He called for a deeper understanding of its message and highlighted the important role women can play in religious education and social reform.
He was speaking at Jamia Syeda Hafsa Lil-Banat in Hyderpora during a gathering held to mark the completion of Hifz-e-Qur’an by girl students. Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Congratulating the Hafizat, their parents, teachers and the institution, the Mirwaiz described the achievement as a “great blessing”.
He said memorising the Qur’an should not be seen as the final goal, but as the beginning of a lifelong journey.
“We must understand its message, reflect upon it and allow it to shape our character and lives,” he said, stressing the importance of putting the teachings of the Qur’an into practice.
The senior cleric also spoke about the importance of women’s education, particularly in religious matters. He said an educated and well-grounded woman could have a strong influence on both her family and wider society.
“As a daughter, wife, mother, teacher and Alimah, she can play a vital role in guiding the next generation,” he said.
The Mirwaiz also called for children to be brought closer to mosques, saying these places of worship should become active centres of learning, guidance and community life.
He suggested organising Qur’an and Seerah classes, dedicated programmes for women and open sessions where young people can ask questions freely. He also stressed that children should be welcomed in mosques with affection, patience and understanding.
Addressing the students who had completed their Hifz, he encouraged them to see the achievement as the start of a lifelong connection with the Qur’an.
He urged them to continue studying its meaning, Tafsir and Seerah while also pursuing modern education and contributing positively to society.
