JKJDF Leader Dr Talat Majid Alaie Criticises Abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A, Calls for Constitutional Justice
Srinagar: Dr Talat Majid Alaie, Chief Spokesperson of the Jammu and Kashmir Justice and Development Front (JKJDF), has criticised the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A, describing it as a political decision rather than one taken in the national interest. Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
In a statement, Dr Alaie alleged that the constitutional changes introduced on 5 August 2019 were intended to advance the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) political agenda and consolidate support among its ideological base.
“The abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A was, in our view, a political agenda of the BJP aimed at consolidating support among its ideological base, not a measure taken in the national interest,” he said.
Calls Decision Undemocratic
Dr Alaie further claimed that the move was unconstitutional and undemocratic, alleging that it dismantled Jammu and Kashmir’s constitutional status and weakened the principles of federalism and democracy.
He said the issue should not be viewed through a partisan political lens but as a matter concerning the rights and future of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
“This is not a partisan issue; it is about our rights, dignity, identity and future. We must rise above party lines and speak with one united voice for constitutional justice and the restoration of democratic values,” he stated.
Political Context
The constitutional changes of 5 August 2019, which included the abrogation of Article 370 and the reorganisation of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories, continue to remain a subject of political debate.
While parties such as the JKJDF, National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party have criticised the move and demanded restoration of constitutional safeguards or statehood, the BJP has maintained that the decision strengthened national integration, improved governance and accelerated development in the region.
The issue continues to feature prominently in political discussions across Jammu and Kashmir.
