Social Media Videos Promoting Separatist Content

Srinagar Police has registered an FIR against certain individuals for allegedly circulating videos on social media that promote separatist ideology and spread false information, officials said on Thursday.

According to officials, the videos were allegedly intended to incite unlawful activities and pose a threat to public peace, as well as the sovereignty and integrity of India.

Attempt to Spread Secessionist Narratives

A preliminary enquiry indicated that the circulation of such material was not accidental but a deliberate attempt to promote secessionist narratives online.

Officials warned that such content could:

  • Create public disaffection
  • Disturb law and order
  • Undermine national unity

Case Registered Under BNS

Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including:

  • Section 152
  • Section 196(1)
  • Section 353(1)(b), (c) and (2)

The case has been filed at the Cyber Police Station Srinagar.

An official confirmed that FIR No. 11/2026 has been registered and an investigation is currently underway.

Public Advisory Issued

Srinagar Police has urged people to act responsibly on social media and avoid sharing or creating unlawful content.

Authorities warned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found involved in spreading such material.
