According to the NIA, the chargesheet was submitted before the Special NIA Court in Jammu. The other leaders named in the case are Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Abdul Ganie Lone, Mohd Yaqoob Wakeel (also known as Mohd Yaqoob Vakil), Javid Ahmad Mir, and Shakeel Ahmad Bakshi.

The agency has charged the accused with criminal conspiracy, attempted murder, rioting, and assaulting public servants. However, the legal proceedings against Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Abdul Ganie Lone, and Mohd Yaqoob Wakeel have ended because they passed away during the course of the case.

The investigation found that the six accused allegedly led an unlawful gathering and encouraged violence against police personnel during the funeral procession of militant Hilal Ahmad Beigh in Srinagar on 17 July 1996.

The NIA further alleged that the accused raised anti-India, pro-Pakistan and separatist slogans, which, according to the investigation, encouraged the crowd to engage in violence. The case remains before the Special NIA Court for further legal proceedings.
