A strong hailstorm along with heavy rain hit the Kund area of Kulgam district on Saturday, causing serious damage to orchards and standing crops, local residents said.
According to eyewitnesses, the sudden bad weather began in the afternoon. Large hailstones and heavy rainfall struck fruit trees and farming fields, badly affecting the area. Farmers are worried about the level of damage. They said the hailstorm not only destroyed blossoms but could also reduce the total apple production this year. One local farmer said the storm came suddenly and lasted long enough to damage a large part of their orchards.
Residents have requested the administration to quickly check the damage and provide compensation to affected farmers. They also asked for better safety measures to protect crops from such extreme weather in the future.
Officials have not yet shared any official report on the total losses caused by the hailstorm.
