A 5.9 magnitude earthquake struck the Afghanistan–Tajikistan border region on Friday evening, with tremors felt across the Kashmir Valley, parts of Jammu and Kashmir, and northern areas of India and Pakistan.
According to the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), the earthquake occurred at around 9:42 PM IST, with its epicentre located near the Afghanistan–Tajikistan border at coordinates 71.01°E, 36.52°N and a depth of 175 km.Due to its relatively deep origin, the earthquake did not cause major damage but was felt across a wide region.
Authorities Monitoring Situation
The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) and other agencies are closely monitoring the situation for any aftershocks.
Authorities have urged residents to remain calm and avoid panic.
