4 persons have been arrested after violence broke out at Government Medical College Anantnag following the death of a 55-year-old woman, whose family alleged medical negligence.

Family Alleges Delay in Specialist Care
According to relatives, she was first taken to a local health facility and later referred to GMC Anantnag.
The family claimed that despite repeated requests, she was not examined by a cardiologist in time. They alleged that prompt treatment could have saved her life.
Protest Turns Violent Inside Hospital
Following the death, grieving relatives and locals protested inside the hospital premises.
Officials said the situation later escalated when some individuals allegedly vandalised hospital property and assaulted on-duty medical staff. Damage to infrastructure and injuries to healthcare workers were also reported.
Police Register FIR, Probe Continues
Police registered FIR No. 118 under relevant legal sections.
Officials confirmed that 4 accused have been taken into custody, while efforts are underway to identify and arrest others allegedly involved in the disturbance.
Principal Rejects Negligence Allegations
Rukhsana Najeeb condemned the attack on staff and destruction of public property.
She said an internal inquiry committee was formed immediately after the allegations surfaced, and preliminary findings found no medical negligence.
Doctors’ Body Demands Action
All India Medical Students Association also condemned the assault on a junior doctor and demanded strict legal action.
The incident has renewed concerns about the safety of medical staff in hospitals across Jammu and Kashmir.
