Majlis-e-Hussaini Held at Astana Sharif in Ganderbal, Cleric Calls for Service to Humanity

Addressing the gathering, Anjuman’s General Secretary Hujjat-ul-Islam Aga Syed Mujtaba Abbas Mosavi Al-Safavi emphasised the importance of serving humanity, helping the needy and contributing to the welfare of society, describing these values as fundamental teachings of Islam and the school of Ahl al-Bayt (AS).

He said that merely attending religious gatherings and observing rituals was not enough, stressing that the true spirit of the Hussaini character could only be reflected when religious teachings were translated into everyday actions.

“Merely attending religious gatherings and observing rituals is not sufficient. The true expression of Hussaini character lies in translating religious teachings into practical life,” he said.

Quoting a verse from the Quran, Aga Syed Mujtaba Abbas said that deeds benefiting other people leave a lasting impact. He urged people to make themselves useful to others and regard service to humanity as both a moral and religious responsibility.

Remembering religious scholars and personalities

The cleric also recalled the contributions of Mir Shams-ud-Din Araqi (RA) and other religious personalities who, he said, played an important role in introducing and strengthening the teachings of the Ahl al-Bayt in Kashmir.

He said their legacy placed a responsibility on the present generation to continue giving priority to service to religion, humanity and society.

Aga Syed Mujtaba Abbas said the teachings of the Ahl al-Bayt were universal and emphasised morality, compassion, good character and service to humanity.

He also appealed to people to rise above sectarian prejudices and work towards strengthening brotherhood, mutual respect and humanitarian service.

Call for peaceful resolution of social issues

Speaking about social concerns, the cleric said governments had a responsibility to ensure basic public services for people, including access to clean drinking water and other essential facilities.

He urged people to raise their legitimate concerns in an organised and peaceful manner rather than relying on emotional slogans.

He stressed that responsible and constructive engagement was important for addressing public issues and ensuring that people’s genuine concerns received due attention.

Message to the younger generation

Aga Syed Mujtaba Abbas also addressed the younger generation, calling upon them to utilise their education, skills and energy for nation-building and economic self-reliance.

He said young people could contribute to meaningful and lasting positive change through determination, hard work and collective thinking.

He encouraged youth to focus on constructive pursuits and use their abilities to strengthen their families, communities and wider society.

Karbala as a message of justice and compassion

Reflecting on the message of Imam Hussain (RA), the cleric said Karbala should not be viewed merely as an historical event to be remembered, but as a continuing call to resist oppression, assist the vulnerable, practise sacrifice and generosity, and stand for truth and justice.

He said mourning for Imam Hussain should inspire devotees to incorporate these ideals into their everyday lives.

“Helping the needy and supporting the vulnerable is not merely a social obligation but also a religious duty,” he said.

Referring to the burial of the martyrs of Karbala by Banu Asad after Ashura, he highlighted the values of service, sacrifice and human compassion associated with the episode.

He urged devotees not to regard Majalis-e-Aza and mourning merely as religious rituals, but to embody the Hussaini ideals of service, sacrifice, generosity and support for the oppressed in their personal and social lives.

The annual Majlis concluded with prayers for the welfare of humanity, peace, brotherhood, compassion and mutual cooperation in society.
