Red Fort Blast Case: Delhi High Court Rejects Jasir Bilal Wani’s Default Bail Plea
Delhi High Court Delivers Setback to Jasir Bilal Wani
The Delhi High Court on Tuesday rejected the default bail plea of Jasir Bilal Wani alias Danish, an accused in the November 2025 Red Fort blast case.
Wani had sought default bail after challenging the extension of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) investigation beyond the initial 90-day period.
A division bench comprising Justices Prathiba M Singh and Vikas Mahajan dismissed his plea.

Why Wani Sought Default Bail
Wani challenged the decision of the Special NIA Court to extend the investigation period beyond 90 days.
His lawyers argued that the extension granted by the NIA court in February 2026 was legally invalid. They further argued that the order rejecting his default bail application should therefore also be set aside.
The defence submitted that the NIA had applied for an extension of the investigation period on February 13, while the 90-day period was due to expire on February 15.
The defence relied on Section 43D of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), arguing that an accused may become entitled to default bail if the investigating agency fails to file its charge sheet within the prescribed period.
NIA Defends Investigation Extension
The NIA opposed Wani’s plea and argued that there was no legal defect in the orders passed by the Special NIA Court.
Special Public Prosecutor Madhav Khurana appeared for the NIA during the proceedings.
The agency had already filed its charge sheet on May 14, naming Wani along with other accused in connection with the Red Fort blast case.
Court Rejects Bail Challenge
After hearing both sides, the Delhi High Court dismissed Wani’s challenge to the extended investigation period as well as his plea against the rejection of default bail.
The ruling means Wani will not receive default bail on the grounds raised in his petition.
The case relates to the November 11, 2025 blast near Delhi’s Red Fort, which is being investigated by the NIA.
The investigation and legal proceedings against Wani and the other charge-sheeted accused are continuing. (ANI)
