Taking to Instagram, the actor said he was fine and asked his followers to keep him in their prayers.
“Alhamdulillah, I am absolutely fine; it’s fake news,” Ashraf wrote, adding, “Need your prayers.”
AI-Generated Video Claims Imran Ashraf Died
The fake video was reportedly shared by a TikTok account that had posted several other clips involving senior journalists, cricketers and actors.
In the AI-generated clip, a news presenter from a private television channel appeared to announce Ashraf’s death.
The fabricated report claimed that the actor had suffered a cardiac arrest that resulted in his death.
However, Ashraf’s own statement confirmed that the report was completely false.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns over the growing use of artificial intelligence to create misleading videos involving public figures.
Other Pakistani Celebrities Targeted by Fake News
Imran Ashraf is not the first Pakistani celebrity to become the subject of an AI-generated death hoax.
In June, singer Tahira Syed also found herself at the centre of false reports about her death.
After seeing the reports circulating online, Syed said she was “absolutely fine” and urged people not to share unverified information.
More recently, actor and host Tauseeq Haider and Farah Sadia also criticised false reports circulating online.
A video involving the two was shared on social media alongside claims that they had got married. The pair later responded to the speculation and clarified that the wedding photographs and reports were fake.
Growing Concern Over AI-Generated Fake News
The latest incident involving Imran Ashraf highlights the growing challenge posed by AI-generated misinformation on social media.
Highly realistic fake videos can make it difficult for viewers to distinguish genuine news from fabricated content, particularly when they appear to use familiar television presenters or public figures.
The incident also underlines the importance of checking information through verified accounts and reliable news sources before sharing it online.
For now, Imran Ashraf has confirmed that he is safe and has urged his fans to ignore the false reports and continue to pray for him.
