Congress Leader Ghulam Ahmed Mir Not ready to take Oath till Statehood Restored to J&K

Ghulam Ahmad Mir

Senior Congress leader Ghulam Ahmed Mir today reiterated the party’s principal stand on the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, stating that the Congress will not take the oath of office until statehood is fully restored.

Mir emphasized that this position is non-negotiable and reflects the party’s commitment to the rights of the people of J&K, he spoke exclusively to KNS.Addressing rumors suggesting discord between the Congress and its alliance partner, the National Conference (NC), over ministerial portfolios, Mir firmly dispelled such claims. “We did not contest this election for power but to restore the rights of the people. The question of ministerial posts is irrelevant at this point. Our priority remains the restoration of statehood,” Mir stated.

He called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to honor the mandate given by the people, which Mir believes clearly indicates a desire for the return of statehood. “The people have spoken, and the Prime Minister should respect their will,” he added.

Mir also clarified that despite not taking the oath immediately, the Congress remains an integral part of the government. “We are fully aligned with our allies in the India bloc, including leaders such as Mallikarjun Kharge and Priyanka Gandhi, and we are committed to working together to achieve our collective goals,” he said. Start The Process to Reclaim what the People of J&K Lost in the last 7 Years: Waheed Para

Waheed Para

People’s Democratic Party leader Waheed Para, said the revocation of the President’s rule from Jammu-Kashmir is the start of the process to reclaim what the people lost in the last 6-7 years, adding that people’s mandate was for restoring their dignity and protecting their identity.

The PDP leader said that people have pinned a lot of hope on the National Conference, and affirmed hope that the party will fulfil its promises.

Waheed Para said, “People of Kashmir have voted for dignity. They have voted for the restoration of Article 370 and statehood. They have voted to restore the special status of Jammu and Kashmir which was robbed on August 5, 2019. This vote is not only to remove Presidential rule but to restore their dignity and protect their identity. I hope this is a start to the process to reclaim what we have lost in the last 6-7 years.”

“People have a lot of expectations from this government. We hope that the coming government will fulfil all the promises that they have made in their manifesto on which they have taken votes,” he added.

The President’s rule in Jammu and Kashmir was revoked on Sunday, clearing the way for the formation of a new government following the recently concluded assembly elections in the Union Territory.

The Ministry of Home Affairs issued a gazette notification in this regard on Sunday.

This development comes two days after National Conference (NC) Vice President Omar Abdullah met Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha on Friday to stake claim for government formation. Abdullah submitted letters of support that the NC received in the recently concluded assembly elections.

After his meeting with LG Sinha, Abdullah said that the swearing-in ceremony could take place on Tuesday (October 15) or Wednesday (October 16), as the LG conveyed that completing the necessary paperwork would take 2-3 days.

NC President Farooq Abdullah said on Saturday that the new government’s primary goal would be to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.

The Congress formally extended its support to the National Conference for forming the government by submitting a letter of backing on Friday.

Support from the Congress, independents, and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has paved the way for the National Conference to stake claim to form government in Jammu and Kashmir.

This will be the first elected government in Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370 and the reorganization of the former state into two Union Territories.

The 90 seats in the erstwhile state went to polls in three phases, and the results were announced on October 8. The NC-Congress alliance secured 48 seats, with the NC winning 42 seats on its own, and Congress managing only six seats. (ANI)

NC MLA Surinder Chaudhry Accuses BJP of Ruining Jammu with Divisive Jammu vs Kashmir Narrative

Surinder Chaudhry

The National Conference MLA Surinder Chaudhary on Friday lashed out at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) saying that it was treating Jammu as its personal property and the division created by the BJP devasted Jammu all these years.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a meeting a Gupkar, Chaudhary said that BJP has no right to say that Jammu belongs to them.“They destroyed Jammu with their narrative of Jammu versus Kashmir. Have they been given any affidavit by the people of Jammu that the region belongs to BJP. National Conference or any other party has equal right over Jammu,” he said.

He asked BJP leadership to do away with creating division by peddling narrative of Jammu versus Kashmir.“By raising slogans of Jammu and Kashmir, BJP has devastated our Jammu region. Our Special status is gone, statehood is gone. Why Himachal did not lose its special status and Bihar is still seeking special status from the government of India,” NC MLA said.

He said people should not fall prey to the agenda of BJP which is aimed at dividing Jammu and Kashmir. “Jammu and Kashmir belongs to us, we are Indians and India belongs to us. Nothing more than this,” he said.

When asked about the priorities following the formation of new government after 6 years, Chaudhary said that the issue of unemployment will be addressed on priority.“The biggest problem today is the unemployment of children. In every house, educated youth are unemployed,” he said.He said the BJP leaders face wrath from the people for its failure to address the issue of rising unemployment.

“Besides unemployment, electricity supply and drinking water, schools, health sector are other basic issues which need to be included in the priority list,” he said.He said the condition of tourism sector was contrary to what was being claimed by BJP.

“There are so many issues which need to be addressed as we move forward. A vacuum has been created in the last 10 years by the BJP. It will take time to address all the issues in J&K,” he said.

He said the NC leadership is committed to implement its manifesto in letter and spirit.Meanwhile, Congress MLA from Wagoora-Kreeri Advocate Irfan Hafeez  Lone said that INDI alliance defeated the agenda of BJP and RSS across the country.

“The BJP had a dream that they would secure over 400 seats, but it was the Congress party that politically shattered that dream into pieces and prevented them from reaching the 400-seat mark. Instead, the BJP was confined to just around 240 seats,” Lone said.

He said that BJP tactfully tried to win seats in Kashmir, but the people showed wisdom and prudence by placing their trust in the alliance for a larger cause.

Dr Bashir Ahmad Veeri

The National Conference (NC) legislators have hit out at People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Iltija Mufti  for accusing them and their workers of resorting to hooliganism in south Kashmir parts after assembly election result.

In a video message, NC MLA from D H Pora Sakina Itoo while rebutting the allegations said that information shared by Iltija Mufti was completely wrong.“You are not politically mature as you appear to be in the media,” Itoo asked Iltija Mufti and “advised” her to check the facts again.

“Before the election, I asked all my workers, voters to celebrate within limits. All my statements are still available. I belong to a political family,” she said. The PDP leader and the media adviser to chief Mehbooba Mufti, Iltija Mufti on Thursday accused the J&K National Conference (NC) hooliganism in the south Kashmir parts saying that the NC workers have wreaked havoc in south Kashmir.

Sakina Itoo said that she represents everyone in Noorabad, DH Pora without considering which party the people voted for.“Even if they vote against us I am their representative, I want to tell Iltija Mufti that a surrendered militant who is now a PDP worker was being given a free hand by the party to create havoc in the constituency,” she said.

Sakina Itoo said whenever he (surrendered militant) visits Dhamal, Hanjipora he uses unparliamentarily language.“Many times people raised objections and said we will not let him use this language wrongly here, but I never allowed them to take any wrong step,” Itoo said. She further alleged that some PDP workers are always seen throwing stones at NC workers, abusing them and threatening people in her constituency.

“Yesterday I saw it myself, some PDP workers abused women, and NC workers. But I say it with confidence that none of the NC workers in my constituency has lit a single cracker. You have leveled allegations that NC workers throw firecrackers at PDP workers, you need to prove it with evidence,” Itoo asked Iltija Mufti.

Sakina Itoo further advised Iltija Mufti to come with facts whenever she addresses the media.“I want to clarify it again that I am not the representative of only those who voted for me but I also represent the people who did not vote for me,” she said.

She asked Iltija to teach politics to his worker (surrendered militant) before any action was initiated against him.“I wanted to take action against him, but the police department assured me that the matter will be resolved,” Itoo said.

NC MLA from Bijbehara-Srigufwara Bashir Ahmad Veeri also reacted to the allegations of Iltija Mufti saying that using unparliamentary language by the latter was  an insult to the people of the area.

“I would advise this girl to stop doing such things. The way you are using this un-parliamentary language is an insult to our people,” Veeri said.Veeri said that Iltija Mufti was insulting the people who overwhelmingly gave the NC candidate the mandate from the constituency.

One MLA of Aam Admi Party extends support to Jammu and Kashmir National Conference

mehraj malik

Aam Admi Party (AAP) on Friday said that it will extend support to Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) after the NC-Congress alliance emerges victorious in the recently concluded assembly election in the Union Territory. The formal letter of support has been submitted to the Lt Governor by the party.

Jammu and Kashmir has one MLA from AAP. Party candidate Mehraj Malik has won the Doda assembly constituency by 4538 votes against BJP’s Gajay Singh Rana.

In Jammu and Kashmir National Conference-Congress alliance secured an absolute majority in the Union Territory by winning 49 seats, with the former taking 42 and the latter 6 seats.

On Thursday, The JKNC unanimously elected Omar Abdullah as the leader of its Legislative Party.

Speaking about his election, Omar Abdullah, vice president of JKNC, said, “There was a meeting of the National Conference’s Legislative Party, and the Legislative Party decided on its leader. I am deeply grateful to the National Conference legislators for reposing faith in me, trusting me, and giving me the chance to go to Raj Bhavan and stake a claim to form the government.”

He also mentioned ongoing discussions with the Congress for their letter of support. “Talks are going on to get the letter of support from the Congress. Four independent MLAs have also extended their support to the National Conference,” Abdullah added.

He also assured that the future government would work for all citizens, including those who voted for the BJP and those who abstained from voting. “We are not the type to seek revenge on those who didn’t vote for us. The upcoming government will represent the Congress, the National Conference, the BJP, and even those who abstained from voting. In Srinagar, only 20 per cent voted–should we ignore the remaining 80 per cent? They too deserve the benefits of governance. Similarly, the people of Jammu, who voted for the BJP, also have the right to benefit from the government,” he said. (ANI)

Getting Complaints that BJP workers in Bijbehara Khiram, Dachinipora and Wagama are being beaten by NC Bullies: Tarun Chugh

tarun chug

BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh today warned the National Conference against playing hooliganism in J&K by targeting people and places that did no go in its favour in the last Assembly elections.

Chugh said it was a shameful demonstration of democratic verdict when the Abdullah’s let lose a reign of terror in the union territory.

Chug said the BJP respects the people’s mandate and is ready to work diligently for the development and growth of J&K. But subversive elements which are backed and supported by the Abdullah family must not try to disrupt law and order in J&K to invite their mentors from across the border.

Addressing the question on the statehood of the J&K, Chugh said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already clarified on it many times. He said the NC must not try to create a political atmosphere against the nation simply because it has been dancing to the tunes of Pakistan ISI.

Chugh expressed serious concern over NC members playing havoc in different parts of J&K.

“My question to Omar Abdullah is that has NC got this majority for hooliganism. Has it come to wreak havoc? For the past three days, I have been getting complaints that the workers in our Bijbehara, Khiram, Dachinipora and Wagama are being beaten. The elected MLAs have resorted to hooliganism under the guise of celebrating NCs victory,” Chugh said.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Urges Government to Secure Release of Political Prisoners and Repeal Draconian Laws

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq

Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir and Chairman of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, while addressing Friday congregation at Jama Masjid today, said that in the recently concluded elections, people sent a unanimous and clear message that in every manner available to them, they will resist attempts to subjugate and disempower them.

” This time, through a consolidated ballot, they registered their strong disapproval of the drastic unilateral changes made in August 2019, since when they have been systematically disempowered, deprived, and their voices stifled,” he said in a statement issued to KNS.

“I hope those voted to power are respectful of the voters’ message and fulfil the promise they made to restore the legal safeguards and the rights snatched from them in 2019. The ownership of our land and resources, the constitutional commitments reneged on, our very identity, and dignity were further undermined by the 2019 Commandments,” he added according to the statement.

“While we (Hurriyat) peacefully strive for those rights never given to us for almost the last eight decades, for which we are constantly struggling and being sent to jails, we have been constantly appealing to the GOI for engagement and the release of political prisoners which include political leaders , lawyers, human rights activists and youth As promised to the people, the incoming government should urgently take up the matter with the Government of India and help secure the release of all political prisoners and youth languishing in jails for years and decades, some even without trial, and push for the withdrawal of the draconian laws, including UAPA and PSA, under which they themselves were incarcerated in 2019,” it reads

“These laws have destroyed people’s lives. The medical condition of many prisoners in jail is very worrying. There is an urgent humanitarian need to reunite them with their families, so this matter demands immediate attention and should be addressed on priority,” it also said.

Meanwhile, Mirwaiz also announced that, as per tradition, he will driver a religious gathering of sermon at the shrine of Hazrat sheik Abdul Qadir Jeelani (RA) in Khanyar on Sunday, September 13, after the Zuhr prayers. Before that, at 10:00 am, the foundation stone of the historic Bazaar Masjid will be laid. He appealed to the people to ensure their participation in these blessed programmes. (KNS)

Omar Abdullah Ready to Reclaim Cheif Minister chair

Farooq Abdullah with NC Elected Members

National Conference (NC) Vice President Omar Abdullah was unanimously elected as the leader of the NC legislature party during a meeting held at the party’s Nawa-e-Subah headquarters here Thursday.

The development positions Omar as the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir after his party emerged as the single-largest in the recently concluded assembly polls.Omar is now poised to return as the CM, a role he held from 2009 to 2014.

“A meeting of the legislature party was held where everyone unanimously chose Omar Abdullah as its leader,” NC President Farooq Abdullah told reporters after the NC legislature party meeting here. “The discussions with the pre-poll alliance partners – Congress and CPI (M) – will be held on Friday to finalise the government formation process.”Farooq said that their priority is to solve all issues faced by the people here.

“We hope we are treated well by the central government and we restore statehood,” he said. “The restoration of Article 370 will take time but our first job will be restoration of statehood.”Farooq said the party would talk to Congress and decide when to take the oath.

The NC secured 42 seats out of the total 90 seats that went to polls while its allies Congress won six and CPI (M) one seat, giving the alliance a comfortable majority.

Additionally, four independent MLAs also extended their support to the NC, increasing the coalition’s tally to 53 seats.Talking to reporters, Omar Abdullah said the party was awaiting a formal letter of support from Congress before officially staking its claim with the Lieutenant Governor.

“I am grateful to the NC legislators for placing their faith in me. We now have a majority with the support of four Independent MLAs, and we are in talks with Congress to finalise the letter of support,” Omar said.

About his next steps, he said that once Congress completes its internal processes, he would approach the Lieutenant Governor to form the government.“We expect Congress to provide the letter of support soon. After that, we will move forward with the formalities,” he said.

Omar reiterated that the new government would pass a resolution and engage with the central government for the restoration of statehood.“The government should work in harmony with the Lieutenant Governor for the welfare of the people. We aim for peaceful cooperation, not confrontation to regain our rightful status as a state,” he said.

Omar declined to comment on potential portfolio allocations or whether a Congress leader might assume the Deputy Chief Minister’s position.

“This government will represent everyone – those who voted for the Congress, the NC, the BJP, and even those who chose not to vote. In Srinagar, where only 20 percent voted, the remaining 80 percent deserve governance too, just as much as those in Jammu who supported the BJP,” he said.

The Return of the National Conference and Sheikh Abdullah’s Leadership

sheikh abdullah

The 1977 state elections in Jammu and Kashmir were a defining moment in the region’s political history. Occurring after the turbulent period of the Emergency (1975-77), these elections signified the restoration of democratic values and fairness in the electoral process. With a renewed emphasis on free and fair elections under Prime Minister Morarji Desai, Jammu and Kashmir witnessed a significant political shift, marked by the return of Sheikh Abdullah and the resurgence of the National Conference (NC). This period played a pivotal role in shaping the political landscape of the state for years to come, reaffirming Abdullah’s leadership and leaving a lasting impact on the region.

1. The 1977 State Elections: A Turning Point for Jammu and Kashmir

The 1977 state elections in Jammu and Kashmir marked a significant shift in the region’s political history. Following the Emergency period (1975-77), these elections were crucial for restoring democracy and fairness in the electoral process. With a voter turnout of 67%, it became clear that the people of Jammu and Kashmir were eager to reclaim their democratic rights. The election allowed the people to voice their opinion, which had been stifled during the Emergency, and set the stage for a new chapter in the state’s political landscape.

2. Sheikh Abdullah’s Return to Power: The Indira-Abdullah Accord of 1975

The Indira-Abdullah Accord of 1975 was a pivotal moment in Jammu and Kashmir’s political history. After years of political tension between the Indian government and Sheikh Abdullah, the accord paved the way for Abdullah’s return to power as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. The National Conference (NC) leader resumed leadership with the support of the Congress party, restoring political stability in the region. His return was hailed as a historic event, marking a renewed commitment to political autonomy for the state under the framework of Indian democracy.

3. Free and Fair Elections Post-Emergency: A Democratic Revival

After the Emergency, restoring faith in India’s democratic processes was paramount. Prime Minister Morarji Desai implemented stringent measures to prevent electoral rigging and ensure a transparent voting process. The 1977 elections in Jammu and Kashmir were a testament to this effort, signalling a revival of democracy in the state. With a focus on free and fair elections, the Desai government succeeded in re-establishing electoral integrity, allowing citizens to choose their leaders without fear or manipulation.

4. Congress Withdrawal and Fresh Polls: The Path to National Conference’s Comeback

In 1977, just two years after Sheikh Abdullah’s return to power, the Congress withdrew its support from the National Conference-led government. This withdrawal triggered fresh elections in the state. With the Congress’s political influence waning due to its mishandling during the Emergency, the stage was set for the National Conference to make a strong comeback. Abdullah, with his immense popularity and legacy, led his party to a resounding victory, solidifying its place as the dominant political force in Jammu and Kashmir.

5. The Role of Morarji Desai in Ensuring Electoral Integrity

Morarji Desai, who became Prime Minister after the Emergency, was determined to restore India’s democratic systems, which had been severely compromised during Indira Gandhi’s rule. His government took concrete steps to guarantee the fairness of the 1977 elections in Jammu and Kashmir. By ensuring that elections were free from rigging, coercion, or malpractice, Desai played a crucial role in restoring the people’s confidence in the democratic process. His actions in safeguarding electoral integrity were instrumental in reviving political accountability in Jammu and Kashmir.

6. National Conference’s Resurgence: A New Political Era

The 1977 elections marked the resurgence of the National Conference (NC) as the dominant political force in Jammu and Kashmir. Under Sheikh Abdullah’s leadership, the NC regained its former glory, representing the aspirations of the Kashmiri people for greater autonomy within the Indian Union. This period signalled the beginning of a new political era, one that balanced local autonomy with national integration. Abdullah’s leadership during this time helped to stabilise the region’s political environment, setting a new course for the future.

7. The Impact of the 1977 Elections on Kashmir’s Political Landscape

The outcome of the 1977 elections had a lasting impact on the political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir. Sheikh Abdullah’s return to power was not just a personal triumph but a signal of the people’s desire for stability and effective governance. The elections restored political normalcy to a region that had been marked by years of turmoil and uncertainty. The National Conference’s decisive victory laid the groundwork for future political developments, influencing both local and national dynamics in the years to come.

8. Sheikh Abdullah’s Legacy: From 1977 to 1982

Sheikh Abdullah’s second tenure as Chief Minister, from 1977 until his death in 1982, was marked by efforts to further consolidate Jammu and Kashmir’s political identity within the Indian Union while maintaining a degree of local autonomy. Abdullah worked to improve the region’s socio-economic conditions and address the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. His leadership during this period solidified his legacy as a towering figure in the region’s history, and upon his passing, his son Farooq Abdullah succeeded him, ensuring the continuity of the National Conference’s leadership.

9. The Fall of Congress and Rise of the National Conference

The 1977 elections reflected the broader political trend in India, where the Congress party’s influence declined sharply after the Emergency. In Jammu and Kashmir, the Congress was unable to maintain its support base, which provided an opportunity for the National Conference to rise once again. Sheikh Abdullah capitalised on the political vacuum left by the Congress’s retreat, leading his party to a sweeping victory. This period marked the beginning of the National Conference’s dominance in the state’s political landscape.

10. A Historic Electoral Victory: Sheikh Abdullah’s Leadership Reaffirmed

Sheikh Abdullah’s victory in the 1977 elections was not only a personal triumph but a reaffirmation of his leadership and vision for Jammu and Kashmir. The people’s overwhelming support for him and the National Conference demonstrated their trust in his ability to lead the state through a period of political transition. This historic electoral victory cemented Abdullah’s status as one of the most influential political figures in Jammu and Kashmir, ensuring his lasting legacy in the region’s history.

The 1977 elections in Jammu and Kashmir were held in the backdrop of the Emergency, a period when civil liberties were severely curtailed. Following the Indira-Abdullah Accord of 1975, Sheikh Abdullah returned to power as Chief Minister, supported by the Congress party. However, after Congress withdrew support in 1977, fresh elections were called. Prime Minister Morarji Desai ensured these elections were free from malpractice, resulting in a 67% voter turnout. The National Conference, led by Abdullah, capitalised on the Congress’s declining influence and won decisively, marking the start of a new political era in the state. Abdullah remained Chief Minister until his death in 1982, with his leadership leaving an enduring legacy.

After the BJP retained its stronghold Jammu, Kavinder Gupta said, “BJP will play the role of opposition and ensure that the government functions in the right manner. It will be a big challenge for the BJP to protect the interests of Jammu. We will ensure that development takes place in Jammu.”

“The previous governments of Kashmir have always discriminated against Jammu and Ladakh. Since the BJP has formed the government at the centre we have ensured overall development,” he said.

The BJP leader also took a swipe at the Congress and said that the party won only one seat in the Jammu region and lost very badly.

“They have always tried to mislead the public. Congress has always discriminated against the Jammu region and the public has given them a befitting reply. Congress always depends on its allies,” said Gupta.

“Inki jo Mohabbat ki dukan thi, uska shutter band hogya hai,” he added.

The BJP leader also said that statehood will be restored in Jammu and Kashmir at an appropriate time as iterated by Prime Minister Narendra Modia and Home Minister Amit Shah.

Kavinder Gupta further said, “Article 370 has promoted terrorism, corruption, dynasty politics, stone pelting incidents in the state. The government that will be formed in J&K should understand that this kind of situation will never come nor anyone will let it come. The central government will ensure the security of the region as it is a border state.”

The first assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370 saw the National Conference-Congress alliance cross the majority mark and bag power by winning 48 seats in the Union Territory. While the National Conference won 42 seats, the Congress won 6 seats, according to the Election Commission’s website.

Meanwhile, after a resounding victory in Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, National Conference Vice President and newly-elected MLA Omar Abdullah, on Wednesday expressed gratitude to the voters of the union territory saying that voters have performed their duty, now their responsibility begins.
“I am very thankful to the voters of J&K that they utilised their votes despite democracy was not allowed to thrive here for the last 8-10 years. JKNC-Congress alliance received the majority,” Abdullah said.

The NC Vice President said that the JKNC-Congress alliance secured a majority, with voters displaying maturity and deliberation, particularly in areas where attempts were made to split votes through Independent candidates and smaller parties.

Abdullah acknowledged the voters’ thoughtful participation and said, “Voters voted with due deliberation, especially in the areas where conspiracies were being hatched to divide votes through Independent candidates and small parties. The outer regions of Kashmir and Jammu foiled this conspiracy, but except for 2-3, everyone else had to face defeat. This gives you a sense of understanding of the voters.”

“Our responsibility begins now, voters have done their duty. It is now our duty to work and be worthy of the voters,” the NC leader added.

The National Conference-Congress alliance clinched an absolute majority in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, winning 48 seats in the 90-member assembly.

Omar Abdullah is poised to be the next Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir.JKNC carried the alliance to victory by winning 42 seats in the results declared on Tuesday. Congress could win only six seats. Ninety seats went to the polls in Jammu and Kashmir assembly polls.

BJP got 25.64 per cent vote share followed by the National Conference with 23.43 per cent and Congress with 11.97 per cent.

Put Govt formation on hold till Centre restores Statehood to J&K,AIP would extend full support if all get united: Er Rashid

Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid

Awami Itehad Party chief and the North Kashmir Member Parliament Er Sheikh Abdul Rashid on  Monday suggested the political parties and independents who would emerge victorious tomorrow not to form the government in J&K until the Government of India restores the Statehood.

He said AIP would extend full support if all get united on this advice.

“I have a humble suggestion to all political parties and independent candidates who would win elections tomorrow to put government formation on hold till Centre restores Statehood to J&K,” the North Kashmir MP said. “If all agree to my suggestion, AIP would also extend full support to this proposal.”

Er Rashid also said that age-old darbar move practice should be resumed for the larger status of people of both regions. “The administration claims that it has saved the J & K exchequer from a huge burden by abolishing the Darbar Move practice but the fact remains that people of both regions are suffering. We demand this practice should be resumed,” he said.

The North Kashmir MP also said that he was in Delhi a few days ago where he was J&K House Delhi being exclusively kept reserved for the people of Ladakh UT. “Is this justice? I want to ask the Government of India what was the criteria used to distribute properties of J&K in Delhi and the rest of the country. Ladakh has only 4 to 5 lakh population and for them you have kept J&K House, while J&K has over 2 crore population, where would the people go if they need to travel out of J&K for treatment, travel and jobs,” Er asked.

To a query if BJP wins majority in Jammu and NC in Kashmir, to which party AIP would extend support, Er Rashid said that his priority wasn’t government formation and only safeguarding the interests of J&K. On five nominated members by the J&K Administration, he said. “By nominating members of its own, the J&K administration is damaging and challenging the very idea of BJP and PM Narendera Modi: Ek Vidhan, Ek Nishan, Ek Pradhan. How can Delhi people nominate members for J&K Assembly when poll results are yet to be out,” the North Kashmir MP said. Er Rashid is out on bail till October 12. He has served detention in New Delhi’s Tihar for five and a half years—(KNO)
