Rahul Gandhi to Visit Kashmir Friday After Pahalgam Horror

Rahul Gandhi

Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi will visit Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on Friday, following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam.

Rahul Gandhi, who was on an official visit to the United States, cut his trip short and returned to New Delhi early Thursday morning.

Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also shortened their trips to Saudi Arabia and the US, respectively, in response to the attack in Pahalgam.

Earlier in the day, the Central government convened an all-party meeting to deliberate on the security situation and formulate a collective response to the attack.

Following the attack, India has taken strong countermeasures against Pakistan for its support of cross-border terrorism.

In the Cabinet Committee on Security meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in the presence of Home Minister Amit Shah, India decided to hold the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960 in abeyance until Pakistan credibly and irrevocably abjures its support for cross-border terrorism and has closed the integrated Attari Check Post.

India has also declared the officials of the Pakistani High Commission persona non grata and ordered them to leave India within a week. The country further decided to cancel any visas provided under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) and ordered Pakistan to leave the country within 48 hours.

The Government of India has also decided to suspend visa services for Pakistani nationals, effective immediately. All existing valid visas issued by India to Pakistani nationals will stand revoked, effective from 27 April 2025, the Ministry of External Affairs stated in a press release.

Meanwhile, families of victims of the Pahalgam terror attack mourned the loss of their loved ones as they urged the government to take strong action against the perpetrators of the heinous crime.

Last rites of Indian Navy Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, who was killed in the Pahalgam terror attack, were performed at his native place in Karnal. Shivamogga resident Manjunath Rao was killed in the terror attack. Family friend Dattatreya urged the government to take strong steps against terrorists.

Terrorists attacked tourists at Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam on Tuesday, killing 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen while leaving several others injured, in one of the deadliest attacks in the valley since the 2019 Pulwama strike in which 40 CRPF jawans were killed. (ANI)

Tourist Exodus from Kashmir After Pahalgam Attack: Extra Flights, Trains Operate Amid Panic and Road Closures

Tourist Exodus

Srinagar International Airport and railway stations across Kashmir saw heavy rush on Wednesday as thousands of tourists hurried to leave the Valley following a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people, including a local from Anantnag.

Large crowds gathered at the airport from early morning, with long queues at ticket counters and security checkpoints. Airfares saw a steep rise due to the sudden demand, prompting many to seek the fastest way out.

To handle the rush, airlines IndiGo, Air India, and SpiceJet added a total of seven extra flights from Srinagar on Wednesday.

According to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, more flights are on standby to help with further evacuations.

The government has directed airlines to avoid fare hikes and has said that airfares are being kept under control. All airlines have also waived cancellation and rescheduling charges for flights to and from Srinagar for the next week.

Initially, Air India and IndiGo had announced two additional flights each to Delhi and Mumbai. Three more flights—two from IndiGo and one from SpiceJet—were being added.

By afternoon, the airport had handled over 3,300 departing passengers. Temporary shelter, food, and water were arranged for those waiting for flights.

Tourists at the airport expressed fear and frustration over the sudden turn of events.

“We were in Pahalgam yesterday and had just returned to Srinagar when the news broke. We did not sleep the whole night,” said Priya Mehta, a tourist from Gujarat adding that she just want to go home safely.

Rajeev Sharma, who came with his family from Delhi, said that children are scared. We had come here to enjoy the holidays, but it turned into a nightmare. We managed to get tickets on a late evening flight with the help of some locals, he said.

Another traveler, Sangeeta Das from Kolkata said that she was supposed to stay for five more days, but after what happened whole world knows. The airport is packed, and people are just trying to get out, she added.

Srinagar International Airport Spokesman Vinod Jadli told Rising Kashmir that in response to the Pahalgam terror incident, Airport operated seven additional flights to facilitate the movement of affected tourists and authorities.

He said Airport maintained regular operations on April 23, 2025, with a total of 17,653 passengers traveling through the airport up to 11:20 PM.

“The scheduled traffic included 56 arrivals and 56 departures, with 6,561 passengers arriving and 11,092 passengers departing, bringing the total to 112 scheduled flight movements,” he said.

The spokesman said that in addition, there were 5 non-scheduled arrivals and 4 non-scheduled departures, with a total of 35 passengers (18 arriving and 17 departing), totaling 9 non-scheduled movements.

The spokesperson confirmed that despite the recent security situation, flight operations continued smoothly, and the airport remains fully committed to ensuring passenger safety and comfort.

Meanwhile, railway stations in Srinagar, Budgam and Anantnag also saw large crowds.

Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay, Chief Public Relations Officer of Northern Railway told Rising Kashmir that the attack, which targeted tourists in South Kashmir’s Pahalgam area, has heightened the need for additional travel options for the region’s residents and visitors during this difficult period.

“7 General coaches, 8 Sleeper coaches, 2 Third AC coaches, 1 Third AC Economy coach, and 2 luggage-cum-brake vans,” Upadhyay said.

He said that the special train is being operated to accommodate the surge in travel demand from the region, particularly in light of the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam that has raised security concerns.

“The recent tragic incident in Pahalgam has made it more urgent to ensure convenient travel for both local residents and tourists,” Upadhyay said.

“Northern Railway is committed to providing hassle-free travel for passengers, especially during these challenging times. We urge passengers to plan accordingly and take advantage of this special service,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Railways have issued helpline numbers for passengers in the wake of the Pahalgam incident. For Jammu Tawi Railway Station, the helpline is 0191-2470116, and the local contact number for Jammu region is 1072. For Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Station, passengers can call 01991-234876, while the contact number for Udhampur Station is 7717306616.

For the 4th day,Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remains partially closed due to landslides, leaving air and rail as the main exit options.

With the situation tense in the Valley, tourists are rushing to leave as quickly as possible.

A traffic police spokesman said that vehicular movement remained suspended on Jammu Srinagar NHW as the restoration work could not be completed on Wednesday.

“One way traffic will be restored on Thursday on Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44) till the restoration work is completed and the surface is traffic worthy, he said.

On Srinagar-Sonamarg road LMVs followed by HMVs shall be allowed from Kargil towards Srinagar on Thursday. It will be followed by HMV’s.

Brave Pony Operator Syed Adil Hussain Shah Killed Trying to Disarm Terrorist in Pahalgam Attack

Syed Adil Hussain Shah

As tourists scrambled to escape bullets being fired by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam on Tuesday, a pony ride operator displayed extraordinary courage as he tried to snatch the rifle from one of the terrorists.

Syed Adil Hussain Shah, who ferried tourists on his horse from the car parking to the Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam that is accessible only by foot, was shot dead during his attempt to fight one of the terrorists. He had tried to protect the tourist he had brought to the spot.

The terrorists, reportedly choosing their targets after asking them their religion and making them recite an Islamic verse, went on to kill 26 tourists. Shah was the only local killed in the attack.

Shah was the only breadwinner of the family, which includes his elderly parents, wife and children. The family has appealed for justice.
His father Syed Haider Shah told ANI, “My son went to Pahalgam yesterday to work, and around 3 pm, we heard about the attack. We called him, but his phone was switched off. Later, at 4.40 pm, his phone turned on, but no one answered. We rushed to the police station, and that’s when we learned that he had been shot in the attack. Whoever is responsible must face the consequences.”

4 Lashkar Terrorists Identified in Pahalgam Attack That Killed 26 Tourists – Nation on High Alert

terrorists

Security agencies have released a photograph of 4 terrorists involved in yesterday’s heinous attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam that left 26 tourists dead. All of them are linked to Lashkar-e-Toiba and at least two are believed to be foreigners. As the nation struggles to cope with the tragedy, security agencies are going all-out to track down the terrorists and unearth the ruthless plan behind this chilling attack.

The Resistance Front, a proxy of the banned Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), has claimed responsibility for yesterday’s attack. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has rushed to Kashmir and reviewed the situation with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was in Saudi Arabia, cut short his trip and rushed back. Earlier, the Prime Minister condemned the terror attack and said all assistance is being provided to those affected. “Those behind this heinous act will be brought to justice…they will not be spared! Their evil agenda will never succeed. Our resolve to fight terrorism is unshakable and it will get even stronger,” he said.

Home Minister Shah today paid tribute to those killed before their bodies were flown home. “With a heavy heart, paid last respects to the deceased of the Pahalgam terror attack. Bharat will not bend to terror. The culprits of this dastardly terror attack will not be spared,” he said in a post on X.

According to the accounts of survivors, the terrorists asked them what their religion was and then shot the men dead. The bodies of those killed are now being flown back to their homes. The Civil Aviation Ministry has asked airlines to control pricing so that tourists stuck in Kashmir could return to their homes.

Pahalgam Terror Attack: 28 Killed in ‘Mini Switzerland’ Meadow, Lashkar-Linked Group Claims Responsibility

Terror Attack in Pahalgam

In one of the deadliest terror attacks in Kashmir since the 2019 Pulwama bombing, 28 people, mostly tourists, were killed and over a dozen others injured on Tuesday afternoon when terrorists opened fire at Baisaran meadow, a scenic tourist spot near Pahalgam.

The attack took place around 2:30 pm in Baisaran, often called ‘Mini Switzerland’ for its picturesque setting surrounded by pine forests and snow-capped peaks. The area lies about six kilometres from Pahalgam town and is a popular destination for pony rides, picnics, and local food stalls.

According to eyewitnesses and local officials, heavily armed terrorists suddenly entered the open meadow and began firing at groups of tourists. Panic spread as people scrambled for safety. Many of the victims were visiting from different parts of India.

Soon after the attack, The Resistance Front (TRF)—a shadow group believed to be linked to the banned Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT)—claimed responsibility. While a government confirmation is still awaited, intelligence agencies are treating the claim seriously.

As per early reports cited by PTI, the terrorists are suspected to have infiltrated from Kishtwar in Jammu and travelled to Baisaran via Kokernag in South Kashmir, indicating a well-planned movement through forested routes.

Security and intelligence agencies have identified Saifullah Kasuri, also known as Khalid, a senior commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba, as the mastermind behind the massacre. He is believed to have coordinated the attack from across the border.

The Indian Army, CRPF, and local police have launched a large-scale anti-terror operation in the region. Search teams and drones are being used to track down the assailants, and additional troops have been deployed in the surrounding areas.

The government has urged the public to remain calm and vigilant. The Prime Minister, Union Home Minister, and senior security officials are closely monitoring the situation.

This attack has once again raised serious concerns about cross-border infiltration and the safety of civilians in high-tourist zones in Kashmir.

Terror Attack in Pahalgam: 26 Tourists Killed, Amit Shah Heads to Kashmir for Emergency Security Review

Terror Attack in Pahalgam

In a shocking and tragic turn of events, 26 tourists were killed and several others injured in a terrorist attack in the Baisaran Valley area of Pahalgam today. The attack took place in the upper meadows of this popular tourist destination, known for its scenic beauty and peaceful surroundings.

Witnesses reported hearing gunshots as terrorists emerged from the nearby woods and opened fire on unarmed tourists without warning. The area where the attack happened is only reachable on foot or by ponies, making rescue efforts especially challenging. Military helicopters have been deployed to airlift the injured to hospitals.

Following the attack, Union Home Minister Amit Shah immediately left for Srinagar on the instructions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who personally spoke to him and requested that he visit the site. Mr Shah is expected to chair an emergency security review meeting with top officials from all agencies involved.

Earlier, he held a high-level meeting at his Delhi residence, attended by Intelligence Bureau Chief Tapan Deka, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, and CRPF Chief Gyanendra Pratap Singh. Jammu and Kashmir DGP Nalin Prabhat, along with Army officials, joined through video conferencing. Mr Shah also reached out to former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and the current Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.

Lieutenant Governor Sinha confirmed that a major anti-terror operation is now underway to track and eliminate those responsible. “The perpetrators of this heinous attack will have to pay a very heavy price,” he said, adding that he has directed the local administration and health teams to prioritise medical treatment for the injured.

Among the victims was a man from Shivamogga district in Karnataka, shot in front of his wife and son. Upon hearing of his death, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah held an emergency meeting with senior state officials to gather full details.

Prime Minister Modi strongly condemned the attack, calling it a “cowardly and inhuman act”. He added that India’s resolve to defeat terrorism remains firm and will only grow stronger. Former CM Omar Abdullah called the attack “an abomination” and said he was “shocked beyond belief.” “These terrorists are inhuman and must be condemned in the strongest terms,” he posted on social media.

Rajnath Singh, the Defence Minister, described the attack as “cowardly and highly reprehensible”.

Mehbooba Mufti, leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, also expressed deep concern. “This violence is unacceptable and must be strongly denounced. Kashmir has always welcomed tourists with open arms. A full investigation is required to ensure justice and prevent such attacks in future,” she said.

The attack comes during the peak of tourist season and while the registration for the Amarnath Yatra is ongoing. The 38-day pilgrimage is scheduled to begin on July 3, with routes passing through Pahalgam and Baltal. The increased tourist footfall was expected to bring economic relief to the region.

Amit Shah, during his recent visit to Jammu and Kashmir, had already ordered strict measures to wipe out terrorism and ensure zero tolerance for cross-border infiltration.

Ravinder Raina of the BJP and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge both condemned the attack. Mr Raina said, “These cowardly terrorists targeted innocent visitors,” while Mr Kharge called it “a blot on humanity”.

Security forces are currently combing the area in search of the attackers, and the entire region remains on high alert.

Suspected Terror Attack on Tourists Sparks Panic in Pahalgam, Casualties Feared

Indian Army in Kathua encounter

Pahalgam, South Kashmir — A suspected terrorist attack targeted a group of tourists in the popular hill station of Pahalgam on Monday evening, creating widespread panic in the area just as the summer tourist season begins to ramp up.

Preliminary reports suggest the attackers opened fire near a well-known sightseeing spot, causing chaos among visitors. Although official confirmation is awaited, initial accounts indicate there may be casualties. Eyewitnesses described a scene of confusion and fear as tourists scrambled for safety amid the sound of gunfire.

Additional paramilitary and police forces have been deployed to secure the area. As a precautionary measure, tourist movement has been temporarily restricted while the investigation is ongoing.

So far, the identity and affiliation of the assailants remain unknown, and no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The incident comes at a critical time for the region, which has recently seen a notable rise in tourist activity, especially with the approach of the summer season. Local businesses had been optimistic about a strong season after a lull in past years due to the pandemic and regional unrest.

This attack, if confirmed to be terror-related, risks denting confidence in travel safety and may impact the tourism-dependent economy of the region.

Authorities are expected to release an official statement soon with further details on the attack and any confirmed injuries or fatalities.

Sajad Lone Slams Move to Book Villagers for Killing Leopard in Self-Defence

Sajad Lone

MLA Handwara and prominent political leader Sajad Lone has strongly criticised the reported move by wildlife authorities to take legal action against around 40 villagers from Batpora, Block Kralpora in Kupwara district, who killed a leopard in self-defence after the animal attacked several people.

The controversy follows a viral video showing a leopard aggressively attacking locals in the area. Residents said the animal had posed a serious threat to human life, having injured several people in recent days. In a desperate effort to protect themselves and their families, the villagers eventually managed to overpower the leopard during a tense encounter. The animal, reportedly behaving like a man-eater, was fatally injured and died shortly after.

Sajad Lone, reacting strongly to the news of legal action against the villagers, labelled the move as “nonsense.” In his official statement, he questioned the rationale behind the decision, asking if the villagers were expected to sacrifice themselves to a wild animal in the name of conservation.

“We all understand the importance of wildlife, but human life is important as well,” Lone said. He emphasized the need for a balanced approach that respects wildlife without ignoring the safety of local communities.

Locals echoed Lone’s sentiments, expressing shock and disappointment at the proposed action. “We had no choice. The leopard kept attacking people, and authorities failed to respond in time,” said one resident. Others added that the community had been living in constant fear due to the animal’s aggressive behaviour.

Wildlife officials have not issued a formal statement yet, but sources suggest an investigation is underway. However, growing public support for the villagers and political pressure may force a rethink of the legal action.

The incident has sparked a broader debate in Kashmir about wildlife management and the responsibilities of authorities in ensuring both animal conservation and human safety—especially in rural areas where such encounters are becoming more frequent.

As the situation unfolds, residents of Batpora continue to demand that the authorities drop any charges and instead focus on proactive measures to prevent future wildlife threats.

Elderly Kolkata Man Loses Rs 2.6 Lakh to ‘Facebook Friend’ in Kashmir Trip Scam

Kashmir Trip Scam

In an era where social media connects people across the globe, it also opens doors for cybercriminals to exploit trust. A 73-year-old man from Kestopur, Kolkata, fell victim to a sophisticated scam, losing Rs 2.6 lakh to a woman he befriended on Facebook. The scam unfolded during a planned trip to Kashmir, highlighting the vulnerabilities of elderly individuals to online fraud. This article delves into the details of the incident, the modus operandi of the scammer, and the broader implications for digital safety.

The Incident: A Tale of Trust and Deception

The victim, a senior citizen from Kolkata’s Kestopur area, developed an online relationship with a woman he met on Facebook. Over time, their virtual bond grew, leading to plans for a joint trip to Kashmir starting April 1, 2025. The trip, initially perceived as a shared adventure, became the backdrop for a carefully orchestrated scam.

During the journey, the man entrusted his handbag, which contained his State Bank of India (SBI) debit card, to the woman. This act of trust proved costly. After returning to Kolkata on April 9, the victim’s son noticed unauthorized transactions totaling Rs 2,59,500 between April 10 and 14. Upon checking, the man discovered that his debit card had been swapped with another from a different bank. The woman had allegedly used the card to siphon off the funds.

The victim had shared his debit card PIN with the woman during the trip when he fell ill and needed assistance. This moment of vulnerability was exploited, allowing the scammer to execute the unauthorized transactions. Despite attempts to contact her, the woman remained unresponsive, cutting off all communication.

Police Action and Investigation

Distraught by the financial loss, the victim lodged a complaint at the Baguiati police station. The police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, for cheating and criminal breach of trust. Preliminary investigations suggest that the woman is married and resides in Agarpara, a suburb of Kolkata. The police are actively pursuing leads to trace her and recover the stolen funds.

The case underscores the challenges law enforcement faces in tackling cyber-enabled fraud, where perpetrators exploit personal relationships and physical proximity to carry out their schemes. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to uncover whether the woman acted alone or as part of a larger network.

The Modus Operandi: Exploiting Trust

This scam highlights a common tactic used by cybercriminals: building trust through prolonged online interactions. The woman likely spent weeks or months cultivating a relationship with the victim, creating a false sense of familiarity and security. By proposing a joint trip, she gained physical access to the victim’s belongings, enabling her to swap the debit card and misuse it.

The use of a shared PIN during a moment of illness further illustrates how scammers exploit vulnerabilities. Elderly individuals, who may be less familiar with digital security practices, are particularly susceptible to such tactics. The swapped debit card—a physical card from another bank—ensured the victim remained unaware of the fraud until the transactions were discovered by his son.

Broader Context: Rising Cybercrime Targeting the Elderly

This incident is not isolated. Cybercrime targeting senior citizens is on the rise, with social media platforms like Facebook serving as fertile ground for scammers. According to reports, elderly individuals are often targeted due to their perceived trustfulness, limited technological literacy, and substantial savings. In 2024 alone, India saw numerous cases of online fraud, with losses running into crores of rupees.

For instance, a 72-year-old man from East Delhi lost Rs 40 lakh in a cryptocurrency scam after being lured by a social media advertisement. Similarly, a 58-year-old Kolkata resident was duped of Rs 20 lakh in an online investment scam that began with a Facebook ad. These cases highlight the diverse methods scammers employ, from fake investment schemes to impersonation and, as in this case, personal betrayal.

The Kashmir trip scam also reflects a hybrid approach, combining online deception with real-world interactions. By meeting the victim in person, the scammer added a layer of authenticity to the fraud, making it harder for the victim to suspect foul play until it was too late.

Lessons Learned: Protecting Against Social Media Scams

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for vigilance in online interactions. Here are key takeaways to protect against similar scams:

  1. Verify Identities: Always verify the identity of online acquaintances, especially before meeting in person or sharing personal information. Be cautious of individuals who avoid video calls or provide vague details about their background.
  2. Safeguard Financial Information: Never share debit or credit card PINs, passwords, or other sensitive information, even with trusted individuals. Use secure methods like UPI or mobile apps for transactions when assisting others.
  3. Monitor Accounts: Regularly check bank statements and enable SMS or email alerts for transactions. Prompt detection of unauthorized activity can limit financial losses.
  4. Be Skeptical of Offers: Be wary of unsolicited friend requests, overly friendly strangers, or lucrative opportunities that seem too good to be true. Scammers often use flattery or promises of rewards to gain trust.
  5. Report Suspicious Activity: If you suspect fraud, report it to the police and your bank immediately. In India, the cybercrime helpline (1930) provides assistance for reporting online fraud.
  6. Educate the Elderly: Families should educate elderly members about digital safety, including the risks of sharing personal information online or with strangers met through social media.

The Emotional and Financial Toll

Beyond the financial loss of Rs 2.6 lakh, the victim likely suffered significant emotional distress. For a senior citizen, losing hard-earned savings to someone they trusted can be devastating. The betrayal of a perceived friendship, coupled with the stress of navigating a police investigation, adds to the trauma.

This case also highlights the importance of family support. The victim’s son played a crucial role in detecting the fraud, underscoring the need for younger family members to monitor the financial activities of elderly relatives, especially those active on social media.

Conclusion

The story of the elderly Kolkata man duped of Rs 2.6 lakh is a cautionary tale about the dangers lurking in the digital world. As social media continues to bridge distances, it also creates opportunities for scammers to exploit trust and vulnerability. This incident calls for greater awareness, stronger digital literacy, and proactive measures to protect vulnerable populations, particularly the elderly.

The Baguiati police’s investigation may bring justice to the victim, but prevention remains the best defense. By fostering skepticism, safeguarding personal information, and staying informed about common scams, individuals can reduce their risk of falling prey to cybercriminals. As technology evolves, so must our strategies to stay safe in an interconnected world.

Mehbooba Mufti Questions Farooq Abdullah’s Role in Article 370 Abrogation, Seeks Clarity from NC,Dulat’s Remarks About Late Mufti Not Significant

Mehbooba Mufti Questions

In a significant political development, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president and former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti has raised serious questions about the role of Dr. Farooq Abdullah, president of the National Conference (NC), in the events leading up to the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019. Speaking at a press conference at the PDP headquarters, Mehbooba urged the NC leadership to publicly clarify their position in light of revelations made by former Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) chief A. S. Dulat.

A.S. Dulat’s Revelations Spark Controversy

A.S. Dulat, a former intelligence chief known for his close association with Dr. Farooq Abdullah, recently claimed that the senior NC leader was disturbed not because of the abrogation of Article 370 itself, but because the BJP did not take him into confidence before executing the move. According to Dulat, Farooq had even suggested that he could have helped the BJP accomplish their objective of removing Article 370 through the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.

These revelations have stirred political debate in the Union Territory, with Mehbooba Mufti terming Dulat’s claims “very serious in nature” and a matter that deserves public explanation. “Dulat is not someone who would say such things to harm Farooq Sahib’s interests. He is close to him. What he has said seems more like an attempt to bridge the gap between the BJP and Farooq Sahib,” she stated.

Mehbooba Dismisses Comparisons to Her Father

Mehbooba also responded to comments made by NC vice president Omar Abdullah, who had earlier tried to equate Dulat’s remarks about Dr. Farooq with his past comments on the late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, Mehbooba’s father and PDP founder. She dismissed these comparisons, saying the remarks about her father were “minor issues,” whereas the claim involving Dr. Farooq and Article 370 touches the very core of Jammu and Kashmir’s political identity.

“Article 370 was the soul of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status, and any suggestion that a prominent Kashmiri leader was willing to collaborate in its removal is extremely serious,” Mehbooba said.

Demands for Public Accountability

During the press interaction, Mehbooba demanded that the National Conference and its leadership come forward and clarify what role, if any, Dr. Farooq and Omar Abdullah played in the lead-up to the constitutional changes of August 5, 2019. She questioned their presence at a meeting with the Prime Minister just two days prior, on August 3, 2019, and demanded transparency on what transpired.

“The people of Jammu and Kashmir deserve to know the truth. What were Farooq and Omar Sahib doing with the Prime Minister two days before the abrogation? Why is there silence from the NC on such a critical issue?” she asked.

Concerns Over Statehood Narrative

Mehbooba further criticised the National Conference for aligning, knowingly or unknowingly, with what she termed the “BJP narrative” on statehood. “It’s the BJP that promised the return of statehood. Even the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister have committed to it. But what has not been promised, what is being ignored, is Article 370. That’s what matters the most,” she said.

She expressed disappointment that the NC, which once held 50 seats in the legislative assembly, is no longer pushing for the restoration of Article 370. “We had hoped they would take a firm stand, but they have avoided even mentioning it. This silence is troubling,” Mehbooba added.

Political Implications

Mehbooba Mufti’s pointed remarks come at a time when political activity in Jammu and Kashmir is gradually gaining momentum amid ongoing legal and administrative battles. Her statement also reflects growing unease among regional parties over the BJP’s policies and the perceived shift in priorities among former allies and political opponents.

The controversy surrounding A.S. Dulat’s comments has opened up a new front in the political discourse, one that could redefine alliances and narratives as the region awaits clarity on its future status and governance structure.

Conclusion

By questioning Dr. Farooq Abdullah’s alleged willingness to assist the BJP in removing Article 370, Mehbooba Mufti has thrown a spotlight on a politically sensitive issue that continues to shape the politics of Jammu and Kashmir. Her demand for transparency and accountability may force the National Conference to break its silence, as political parties prepare for the next phase in the region’s ongoing struggle for identity, rights, and representation.

Four Pakistani Stars Shine in ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier 2025 Team of the Tournament

ICC Women’s World Cup

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has named four Pakistani cricketers in its prestigious Women’s World Cup Qualifier 2025 Team of the Tournament. This honour highlights the dominant presence of Pakistan’s women cricketers during the tournament and underlines their consistent performances across all departments of the game. Leading the way is team captain Fatima Sana, who has been named captain of the Team of the Tournament — a testament to her leadership and all-round brilliance.

Fatima Sana: Leading with Skill and Spirit

Fatima Sana’s inclusion as the captain of the Team of the Tournament reflects her outstanding contribution to Pakistan’s successful campaign. As an all-rounder, she played a crucial role with both bat and ball. Her best bowling figures came against Scotland, where she claimed an impressive 4 wickets for 23 runs in a rain-hit match. This performance helped Pakistan restrict Scotland to a manageable total and eventually win the match by six wickets.

With the bat, Sana showed her calmness and maturity during a tough chase against Thailand, where she remained unbeaten on 62. Her performance in high-pressure situations underlined her growth as a leader and match-winner, earning praise from fans and analysts alike.

Muneeba Ali: The Reliable Opener

Opening batter Muneeba Ali was another standout player for Pakistan. Known for her calm presence at the top of the order, she consistently gave Pakistan strong starts. Her most memorable performance came in the match against Scotland, where she scored 71 runs at nearly a run-a-ball pace. Her innings laid the perfect foundation for Pakistan’s successful chase of 187, showcasing her ability to guide the innings and play smart cricket under pressure.

Nashra Sandhu: Consistency in the Middle Overs

Spinner Nashra Sandhu delivered one solid performance after another, ending the tournament as one of the most reliable bowlers. She claimed 10 wickets at an average of 15.60, and her tight lines and smart variations kept batters guessing. Her most impactful performance came against West Indies, where she removed some of their key players and helped shift the momentum in Pakistan’s favour. Sandhu’s knack for taking crucial middle-over wickets proved essential in Pakistan’s victories.

Sadia Iqbal: The Silent Destroyer

Sadia Iqbal complemented Nashra Sandhu perfectly in Pakistan’s spin attack. She took nine wickets during the tournament and maintained an economy rate of under four runs per over. Her disciplined bowling allowed Pakistan to control the middle phases of matches. One of her finest spells was a 3/28 performance, which played a major role in dismantling the opposition’s batting line-up. Her ability to bowl with both accuracy and subtlety made her a major asset for Pakistan.

The Team of the Tournament, selected by the ICC, also features star players from West Indies, Bangladesh, and Scotland. Chaudhary said that around 200-250 houses have been damaged in the incident.

“Due to incessant rainfall and cloudburst, the National Highway was closed at several places. In Ramban, houses and hotels have been damaged. Two houses collapsed due to a landslide in Bagahana village, where 3 people have lost their lives. Around 200-250 houses have been damaged. Maximum damage occurred in Ramban town. Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Surinder Chaudhary, has reached Ramban to assess the situation following the flash flood and landslide.

Heavy rainfall in Ramban on Sunday triggered landslides that blocked the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44), damaging many houses and vehicles.

Authorities have urged people to avoid travelling on the highway until the weather improves and clearing operations are completed.

Earlier in the day, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti expressed deep concern over the landslides and flash floods in Ramban. She urged the Omar Abdullah-led Jammu and Kashmir government to evacuate vulnerable people and provide essential supplies.

She said, “The devastating landslides triggered by relentless rains along the Ramban section of the Jammu-Srinagar Highway have claimed lives, buried vehicles, and stranded many. Urge the administration to prioritise the immediate evacuation of vulnerable groups–elderly, women, and children–while providing food, water, and medical aid. Swiftly clear debris, restore connectivity and implement long-term measures like early warning systems and infrastructure upgrades to prevent such tragedies.”

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also expressed grief over the incident.

In a post shared by the Chief Minister’s Office on X, Abdullah said, “Extremely anguished by the tragic landslide and flash flood in Ramban, which has caused considerable damage to life and property. My thoughts are with the affected families in this difficult hour. We are in touch with the local administration to ensure immediate rescue efforts wherever needed.

Later today, I will be reviewing restoration, relief, and repair plans. For now, the focus remains on managing the situation on the ground. Citizens are advised to follow travel advisories and avoid non-essential movement in vulnerable areas.”

He also extended condolences to the families of the victims and assured them that rescue and relief work is underway. (ANI)
