Ex-DGP SP Vaid Warns of Pakistan’s Collapse Amid Jaffar Express Train Attack in Balochistan

SP-Vaid

The ongoing unrest in Balochistan has once again come under the spotlight after former Director General of Police (DGP) of Jammu and Kashmir, SP Vaid, warned that Pakistan is on the verge of disintegration. His statement came in response to the recent Jaffar Express train attack, where the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) took over 400 passengers hostage, highlighting the deteriorating security situation in the region.

Jaffar Express Attack: A Major Security Breach

On March 11, the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) ambushed the Jaffar Express train, which was traveling from Quetta in Balochistan to Peshawar in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The attackers opened fire, injuring the train driver and forcing the train to a halt. Following this, they took passengers hostage, warning that they would execute them if the Pakistani military attempted a rescue operation.

According to local reports, over 450 passengers and railway staff were onboard when the attack took place. The BLA later claimed responsibility, stating that they had successfully repelled an initial counter-operation by the Pakistani military and were prepared for further confrontations.

SP Vaid: “Pakistan Has Lost Control Over Balochistan”

Reacting to the crisis, SP Vaid stated that the Pakistani government and army have completely lost their grip on Balochistan, leading to a rise in separatist movements. He cited reports that at least six to seven districts in Balochistan are under the full control of militant groups, making it difficult for the government to impose its authority.

“Pakistan is on the verge of breaking up. The situation in Balochistan is spiraling out of control, and even Sindh’s separatist groups have joined forces with Baloch insurgents. If this trend continues, Pakistan could disintegrate into multiple parts,” Vaid said in an interview.

Major General GD Bakshi: Pakistan Army’s Weakness Exposed

Retired Indian Army officer Major General GD Bakshi also weighed in on the incident, pointing out that the Jaffar Express attack is a clear indicator of Pakistan’s declining internal stability. He highlighted that hostage rescue operations require precision, something that the Pakistan Army struggles with.

“There is growing demoralization within the Pakistan Army. This hostage situation is extremely delicate. The Pakistan Army is known for using brute force rather than tactical precision, and if they mishandle this situation, it could lead to mass civilian casualties,” he stated.

BLA’s Warning: Retaliation Against Military Operations

The Baloch Liberation Army has issued a final warning to the Pakistani government, demanding an immediate halt to aerial strikes in the region. In a statement, BLA spokesperson Jeeyand Baloch said,

“If the airstrikes are not stopped immediately, we will execute all 100+ hostages within the next hour. Our fighters are fully prepared for any further military incursions, and Pakistan will bear the consequences of its actions.”

With tensions at an all-time high, the Pakistani military is under pressure to manage the crisis without worsening the already fragile situation.

Pakistan’s Struggle to Contain Separatist Movements

The Jaffar Express attack is not an isolated incident but part of a larger pattern of separatist activities in Balochistan. Over the years, the Baloch Liberation Army and other groups have carried out numerous attacks targeting Pakistani security forces, infrastructure, and government officials. The region has long been a center of resistance against what locals describe as the Pakistani government’s exploitation of Balochistan’s resources without benefiting its people.

In response to the growing insurgency, Pakistan has imposed heavy military crackdowns in Balochistan, but these efforts have only fueled more resentment among the local population. Allegations of human rights abuses, enforced disappearances, and extrajudicial killings by Pakistani security forces have further escalated tensions.

The Road Ahead: Is Pakistan Headed for Disintegration?

With growing internal turmoil, economic struggles, and increasing separatist movements, experts like SP Vaid and GD Bakshi believe that Pakistan is heading toward collapse. The alliance between Baloch and Sindhi separatist groups poses a new challenge for Islamabad, as it indicates a more coordinated effort to break away from Pakistan.

Moreover, Pakistan’s economic crisis, political instability, and strained relations with its neighbors further weaken its position. If the government fails to address the Balochistan crisis effectively, it could mark the beginning of a larger breakdown within the country.

As the world watches the unfolding situation in Balochistan, the coming days will be critical in determining whether Pakistan can maintain its territorial integrity or if the warnings of a possible breakup will become a reality.

All India Muslim Personal Law Board to Protest Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024 at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on March 17

All India Muslim Personal Law Board

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has called for a protest on March 17 at Delhi’s Janta Mantar against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024.

Addressing a press conference here today, Syed Qasim Rasool Ilyas, spokesperson of the AIMPLB, said that the government wants to create division between Hindus and Muslims and desires unrest in the country.

“There have been continuous protests happening in various places, and press conferences are being held. We were supposed to hold a protest on March 13, but that day is Holi. On that day, the MPs will not be able to attend. Therefore, now we will hold a massive protest at Jantar Mantar on 17th March 2025,” he said.

“People from all communities who supported us have been invited to this protest. Many MPs have also been invited to this protest. The BJP always spreads hatred, but at least we expect that their allied parties will not support the BJP in this decision,” Ilyas added.

The AIMPLB spokesperson further highlighted that every endowment in the country has the same protection as the Waqf.

“To say that Waqf has special protection is wrong. The clause on ‘Waqf by user’ in this bill pertains to properties like mosques, dargahs, and burial grounds, which are not registered but are being used by Waqf as Waqf properties. Due to this, all unregistered properties will go,” he said.

Fazlur Rahim Mujaddidi, General Secretary of the Board said that they tried to convince the government in every possible way, through all democratic means but their concerns were not heard.

“Now, we have no option but to go on a protest. The government wants to impose this amendment on us at any cost. We do not want the situation to worsen, but you (the government) want conflicts in every street and neighborhood, especially over mosques and cemeteries.

We want to see a developed India, but in these circumstances, our dream cannot come true. This amendment is against the country. The government has misled our innocent Hindu brothers as well,” Mujaddidi said.

He also emphasized that Muslims want development, but in these conditions, it will not be possible.

“We want to tell the government clearly to change its attitude. We are firm on our protest,” he emphasized.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Friday criticised the handling of the Waqf Amendment Bill and alleged that the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) process failed to uphold democratic norms.

Jairam Ramesh accused the committee of bypassing a clause-by-clause discussion and ignoring dissenting voices from opposition MPs and alleged that the Waqf Amendment Bill was “bulldozed” through the JPC.

The Joint Committee of Parliament (JPC) report on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, was tabled in Parliament on February 13 amid uproar.

The Waqf Act of 1995, enacted to regulate Waqf properties, has long been criticised for issues such as mismanagement, corruption, and encroachments.

The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, aims to address these challenges by introducing reforms such as digitisation, enhanced audits, improved transparency, and legal mechanisms to reclaim illegally occupied properties. (ANI)

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) is a non-governmental organization in India that represents the interests of the Muslim community concerning personal laws. Established on April 7, 1972, in Hyderabad, the AIMPLB aims to protect and promote the application of Islamic personal laws among Indian Muslims. These laws encompass matters such as marriage, divorce, inheritance, and other personal affairs governed by Sharia (Islamic law).

The formation of the AIMPLB was driven by concerns within the Muslim community about potential governmental interference in their personal laws and the possible imposition of a Uniform Civil Code. The Board functions as a consultative body, providing guidance and opinions on issues related to Muslim personal law. It comprises scholars, legal experts, and representatives from various Islamic organizations across India. Although the AIMPLB does not possess legal authority to enforce its decisions, it holds significant influence within the Muslim community.

Throughout its history, the AIMPLB has been actively involved in various significant cases and debates. Notably, it played a central role in the Shah Bano case of 1985, where it opposed granting maintenance to a divorced Muslim woman, arguing that it would violate Islamic personal law. This case sparked widespread controversy and led to debates about the role of Islamic law in India. In response, the government passed the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Divorce) Act in 1986, which overturned the Supreme Court’s decision in the Shah Bano case and restricted the payment of maintenance to a limited period after divorce.
The AIMPLB has consistently opposed attempts to introduce a Uniform Civil Code, advocating for the preservation of Muslim personal laws. In 2018, the Board proposed the establishment of Sharia courts, known as Darul Qaza, in every district of India to offer Muslims an alternative dispute resolution mechanism. However, this proposal sparked controversy, with critics raising concerns about potential conflicts with the Indian legal system and human rights issues.

The Board’s leadership includes prominent figures such as President Khalid Saifullah Rahmani and General Secretary Maulana Mohammed Fazlur Rahim Mujaddidi. The AIMPLB continues to play a significant role in shaping the discourse on Muslim personal law in India, striving to balance religious traditions with contemporary legal and social challenges.

Indian Government Bans Awami Action Committee and Jammu and Kashmir Ittihadul Muslimeen Under UAPA

Bans Awami Action Committee

The Central Government has banned the Awami Action Committee (AAC), led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 for five years. It has also banned the Jammu and Kashmir Ittihadul Muslimeen (JKIM), headed by Masroor Abbas Ansari for five years.

In two separate notifications, the Home Ministry, as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), cited the organisations’ involvement in activities that threaten the sovereignty, integrity, and security of India.

According to the notification, AAC members have been supporting terrorist activities, propagating anti-India narratives, and mobilizing funds for secessionist movements in Jammu and Kashmir.

The government has also accused the group of inciting violence, promoting disaffection against the Indian state, and encouraging armed resistance.

The ministry listed multiple criminal cases against AAC and its leaders, including charges of sedition, unlawful assembly, and incitement of violence. Cases have been registered at various police stations in Srinagar, including Nowhatta, Safakadal, and Kothi Bagh, against Umar Farooq and other AAC members for delivering speeches against the Indian government, promoting election boycotts, and instigating protests.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has also filed a chargesheet against AAC spokesperson Aftab Ahmad Shah and others for their alleged involvement in anti-national activities. The government believes that if not curbed, AAC will continue to support militancy, disrupt public order, and fuel separatist movements in Jammu and Kashmir.

Invoking Section 3 of the UAPA, the government has imposed a five-year ban on AAC, effective immediately. The notification stated that the ban is necessary to prevent the group from further engaging in activities detrimental to India’s national security.

This move follows a broader crackdown on organisations accused of fostering separatism and militancy in Jammu and Kashmir.

Similarly, the government said that members of JKIM have been actively supporting terrorist activities, engaging in anti-India propaganda, and mobilizing funds to promote separatist and secessionist agendas in Jammu and Kashmir. The government also accused the group of inciting public unrest, advocating violence, and working against the constitutional framework of the country.

The MHA stated that if JKIM’s activities are not curbed, it would continue promoting anti-national sentiments, disputing Jammu and Kashmir’s accession to India, and disrupting public order. Citing these concerns, the government has banned the organization for five years, effective immediately, under Section 3 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.

J&K Assembly Erupts, Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather Refuses Discussion on Gulmarg Fashion Show

Speaker refuses discussion on

Amid uproar in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on Monday, the Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather said that the Billawar killings could not be discussed in the House, as it falls outside the Assembly.
Citing Section 32 of the Jammu & Kashmir Reorganisation Act-2019, the Speaker explained that issues related to police and public order are not within the Assembly’s domain.
“The Lieutenant Governor (LG) has already ordered an inquiry into the Billawar killings,” the Speaker said, adding that the matter was being looked into by the concerned authorities.
The Speaker also stated that the controversy surrounding the Gulmarg fashion show could not be raised in the House, as an inquiry is already underway. “Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has ordered an investigation into the fashion show. We cannot discuss matters that are under investigation,” he clarified.
The Speaker also condemned the assault on MLA Bani, Dr. Rameshwar Singh, and called for a thorough investigation into the incident. “The House condemns the attack on Dr. Rameshwar Singh and calls for a thorough inquiry,” he added.
With both matters under investigation, the Speaker emphasised that discussions would not be allowed until the inquiries were completed.

Spain Arrests 11 Pakistanis in Barcelona for Inciting Violence, Terror Financing & Extremism

pakistani arrested

Spanish authorities have arrested 11 Pakistani nationals in Barcelona for their alleged involvement in inciting violence, terror financing, and extremism linked to blasphemy. The arrests took place last week as part of a joint operation by the Spanish National Police and Italian law enforcement.

Crackdown on Extremist Network

According to Spanish police, the detained individuals were allegedly associated with Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), a far-right Islamist group known for its extremist views on blasphemy. The suspects reportedly operated through encrypted communication channels, where they incited violence and called for attacks against individuals accused of blasphemy.

Authorities confirmed that the arrests were part of a three-year-long investigation into radical networks operating in Barcelona. This latest operation marked the third phase of the probe, bringing the total number of arrests to 30 since the investigation began. Ten of the suspects were detained in Barcelona, while one was arrested in Piacenza, Italy.

Leader Used Encrypted Platforms to Spread Extremist Views

The alleged leader of the group is a 55-year-old Pakistani national who reportedly used encrypted messaging platforms to incite violence and glorify attacks related to blasphemy cases in both Europe and Pakistan. Authorities also discovered a separate online group led by a woman—now in custody—who was allegedly involved in recruiting women for extremist activities and target selection.

Charges Against the Suspects

The arrested individuals face multiple charges, including:

  • Terror Financing – Funding activities linked to extremist causes.
  • Recruitment for Extremist Activities – Enlisting individuals for radical actions.
  • Inciting Violence – Encouraging attacks over blasphemy allegations.
  • Glorification of Terrorism – Praising violent acts committed in the name of religious extremism.

The suspects were presented before Spain’s Central Investigative Court No. 6 last week for further legal proceedings.

TLP’s Radical Influence

Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) was founded in 2015 by Pakistani cleric Khadim Hussain Rizvi. The party is notorious for its violent protests, especially against any changes to Pakistan’s blasphemy laws. It has been linked to attacks on law enforcement and public calls for the execution of individuals accused of blasphemy.

TLP gained political traction in Pakistan, securing 2.89 million votes in the 2024 general elections, maintaining its position as the country’s fifth-largest party. The group has a history of targeting minority communities, particularly the Ahmadiyya sect, and has staged large-scale protests over blasphemy-related issues.

International Concerns Over TLP’s Extremism

TLP has also made headlines internationally. In 2018, the group protested against a planned caricature contest in the Netherlands, with its leader threatening nuclear retaliation. In 2020, after the beheading of French teacher Samuel Paty over alleged blasphemy, TLP praised the attacker, calling him a “martyr” and sharing graphic images online.

Ongoing Investigation and Global Security Measures

The recent arrests highlight growing concerns about the influence of extremist groups beyond Pakistan’s borders. European authorities have increased surveillance on radical networks to prevent the spread of religious extremism and violence.

Spain’s crackdown on the suspected TLP-linked individuals underscores the country’s commitment to counterterrorism efforts and ensuring public safety. Further investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the network’s operations in Europe.

Iltija Mufti Criticises Police Over Kathua Killings, Demands Impartial Probe

Iltija Mufti

People’s Democratic Party leader Iltija Mufti on Monday criticised the police handling of the recent killing of three civilians in Kathua, including a 14-year-old boy and demanded an impartial probe into the incident.

Mufti expressed concern that the police are not behaving neutrally, citing the fact that BJP leaders were allowed to visit Billawar in the Kathua district of J-K while she and her team were denied permission.

“We wanted to visit Billawar, but the leaders of BJP were allowed to go. We are worried that the police are not behaving in a neutral way. The youngest victim is a 14-year-old. We demand an impartial probe,” said the PDP leader.

Mufti’s comments come after she was denied permission to visit the affected area while BJP leaders were allowed to go.

Despite police claims of normalcy, Mufti pointed out that the incident raises concerns about the police’s ability to perform their duties.

“Police here is stating that everything is normal. If everything is normal here, then how are such big incidents taking place here, ” Mufti told reporters, referring to the killing of three youths.

She also referred to her previous month’s visit to the Billawar, a town in the Kathua district, stating that “people had fear and fear of police more than the militants”. I am not saying that everyone has a bad name among the police…If such incidents are taking place here, it is a border district”.

The PDP leader stressed that police need to be more careful in order to prevent such incidents

“Police should be more careful. They have to be vigilant. Somewhere, the responsibility comes to the police. And unfortunately, it seems police are not able to discharge their duty properly,” the PDP leader said.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary condemned the killings.

Three people who went missing in the Kathua district were found dead by security forces in a river on Saturday, triggering protests in the area.

The leader of Opposition (LoP) of the JK Assembly, Sunil Sharma, expressed his concern, saying the central government is very worried about the situation and that whoever is behind the incident will not be spared.

“All the MLAs went to Kathua and met the families of the deceased. We discussed on the events leading to their deaths and informed the Union Home Minister, who ensured that action will be taken according to the outcome of the investigation… Central government is very worried about the situation and whoever is behind the incident will not be spared at all,” Sharma told ANI.

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has also ordered an investigation into the incident. (ANI)

Speaking in the Assembly, Omar Abdullah, stated that the event was a private function held at a private hotel, with no government infrastructure involved.

He said the administration has been directed to investigate if the organizers violated any laws. “They have been told that the matter should be handed over to the police if any violation has been done,” he said.

Abdullah also questioned the decision to allow the Leader of the Opposition Sunil Sharma to visit Kathua while denying permission to the Deputy Chief Minister.

“If the situation was so bad in Kathua, why was the LoP allowed to visit there but the Deputy CM was denied permission?” he asked—(KNO)

India Clinches ICC Champions Trophy 2025 With Team Effort, Says Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli

After winning the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 against New Zealand on Sunday, India’s stalwart batter Virat Kohli shared his thoughts on the title win and said that he is happy as the team was able to play as a unit.

In the final, it was Rohit Sharma who led the way. In the semi-final, it was Virat Kohli with the bat and Mohammed Shami with the ball, among others.

India won five straight games to claim the Champions Trophy 2025, and in each of those contests, a handful of their star players shone brightly. Those contributions led to another title-yielding run in a major ICC event.

Kohli exemplified that in Dubai, scoring an unbeaten ton against Pakistan and a crucial 84 off 98 balls against Australia to help his side qualify for the decider.

“I think to win titles, which has been missing in the past, the whole team must step up in different games. If you look at this tournament, over the course of five matches, everyone has put their hand up somewhere or another,” Kohli said after India’s memorable Final win against New Zealand as quoted by ICC.

These are the things, after playing for so long, you look forward to. Being in situations where you are put under pressure, and you walk in, and you put your hand up.”

After Rohit took full advantage of the new ball, it was Shreyas Iyer that came in and played a commanding helping hand, as India went about surging towards the Black Caps’ total of 251.

Shreyas scored a clutch 48 through the middle overs, where runs had proven hard to come by on the Dubai surface, which was enough to set up KL Rahul for finishing duties, with one over to spare.

“That is why we ended up winning this tournament. People have made such impactful knocks and produced such impactful spells, and it is only a collective effort that can win you a title. I am just so happy we were able to play as a unit and really enjoy ourselves. We have had such an amazing time as a team. It has been an amazing tournament for us,” Kohli continued.

One of the stories of the Champions Trophy has been India’s mid-campaign inclusion of Varun Chakaravarthy, who took 5/42 against the Kiwis in the group stage, in his first tournament appearance. He would go on to become a crucial member of India’s knockout stage run, finishing with nine wickets from his three games.

Chakaravarthy was a key cog in his side’s spin bowling cartel that, game after game, choked the life out of their opponent’s batting innings.

Kuldeep Yadav was the other slow bowler that reaped rewards, picking up two scalps in the Final, while Ravindra Jadeja’s accurate and quality execution was also on full display, finishing with figures of 1/30 off 10 overs.

It’s now back-to-back ICC events for India’s Men’s team, after their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup success last year. It sets them up to be the team to beat at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia in 2028. (ANI)

365 Doctors Appointed in J&K to Strengthen Healthcare in Remote Areas: Sakina Itoo

Sakina Itooa

Jammu and Kashmir health minister on Monday said that 365 doctors were selected as medical officers in the health and family welfare department in November last year and were posted in far-flung areas to strengthen health care facilities at grass root level.

In a written reply to MLA Shakti Parihar’s question, the health minister said that the vacancies that accrue due to retirement or promotion will be referred to recruiting agencies for recruitment of suitable candidates for ensuring maximum allocation of staff as per sanctioned strength.

She said that with reference to vacant posts of medical officers, recently in November last year, 365 selectees were appointed as medical officers in the J&K Health & Family Welfare (Gazetted) Services.

“These medical officers have been posted in the far-flung and peripheral health institutes across J&K for strengthening the medical/health care facilities at grass root level,” she said.

She added that the department is also in the process of operating of wait list of 91 selected medical officers, whose services will also be utilised in the under-served areas across J&K.

“Besides, 181 posts of medical officers are still to be received from Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission.

Upon receiving the selections, the doctors will be posted at the health institutions experiencing staff shortages,” the minister noted—(KNO)

Former TTP Spokesman Ehsanullah Ahsan Warns of Pakistan Reactivating Jihadi Groups in Kashmir

Ehsanullah Ahsan

In a significant and alarming revelation, former Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) spokesman Ehsanullah Ahsan has warned that Pakistan is once again resorting to its old strategy of using jihadist groups as proxies to advance its geopolitical interests. In an article published in The Sunday Guardian, Ahsan claimed that Pakistan’s security establishment is facilitating the reactivation of militant groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) in Kashmir, with the aim of escalating instability in the region.

Ahsan stated that Pakistan’s foreign policy has long been interventionist and shaped by a military mindset, prioritizing regional influence over internal stability. However, recent developments, particularly the strengthening diplomatic and economic ties between India and the Taliban-led Afghanistan, have reportedly left Pakistan frustrated. Islamabad had long sought to maintain its influence over Afghanistan, but the Taliban’s independent foreign policy, which includes fostering better relations with India, has put Pakistan’s establishment in a difficult position.

This growing India-Taliban closeness has compelled Pakistan to return to its traditional reliance on jihadi factions to maintain its influence in Kashmir and counter India’s regional ascendancy. Ahsan noted that the reactivation of these groups is not only a desperate attempt to revive the armed insurgency in Kashmir but also serves as a distraction from Pakistan’s mounting internal crises and diplomatic setbacks.

According to Ahsan, Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) has directed groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed to resume operations in Kashmir. He warned that the renewed activities of these groups could lead to increased violence, cross-border terrorism, and heightened tensions between India and Pakistan.

This revelation is particularly concerning as these organizations have long been accused of carrying out deadly attacks in India. LeT was responsible for the 2008 Mumbai attacks, while JeM has been linked to multiple suicide bombings, including the 2019 Pulwama attack that killed 40 Indian paramilitary personnel.

Ahsan also alleged that Pakistan has been using jihadist groups as a proxy arm of ISIS in Afghanistan, further fueling instability in the region. By backing these militant outfits, Pakistan is not only endangering Kashmir but also risking a broader conflict that could impact South Asia as a whole.

Ahsan argued that Pakistan’s reliance on jihadist groups stems from its worsening internal situation. The country is facing a deep economic crisis, international pressure over its alleged links to terrorism, and increasing diplomatic isolation. These challenges have reportedly forced the Pakistani establishment to revert to old strategies of state-sponsored terrorism to deflect attention from its failing governance.

Pakistan has long faced accusations from India and the global community for harboring terrorist networks and providing them with logistical and financial support. In recent years, international watchdogs like the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) have repeatedly placed Pakistan on its grey list for failing to curb terror financing. Reactivating jihadist groups in Kashmir could push Islamabad further into international scrutiny and invite stringent sanctions.

India has consistently maintained that Pakistan is the primary sponsor of terrorism in Kashmir and has called for global action against Islamabad’s terror infrastructure. If Ahsan’s claims are accurate, this development could lead to increased cross-border attacks, security concerns, and a potential escalation in Indo-Pakistan hostilities.

New Delhi has strengthened counter-terrorism measures, enhanced border security, and intensified diplomatic efforts to expose Pakistan’s terror links on the global stage. The Indian government may also push for further economic and diplomatic sanctions against Pakistan if credible evidence emerges regarding the reactivation of jihadist groups in Kashmir.

Ehsanullah Ahsan’s warnings about Pakistan’s renewed efforts to reactivate jihadist groups in Kashmir are deeply troubling. If his claims hold true, South Asia could be on the verge of another cycle of violence and instability. The international community must closely monitor Pakistan’s activities and hold it accountable for any actions that threaten peace and security in the region. India, on its part, will need to stay vigilant and continue its diplomatic and strategic efforts to counteract these emerging threats.

Fashion Show in Gulmarg During Ramzan Sparks Outrage in Kashmir

Fashion Show in Gulmarg

A major controversy has erupted over a fashion show held at the famous ski resort of Gulmarg during the holy month of Ramzan. The event, which took place recently, has drawn widespread criticism from religious leaders, civil society, and the general public, with many calling it an attack on Kashmir’s cultural and religious values.

Prominent religious leader and chairman of the Hurriyat Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, strongly condemned the event, labeling it an act of “obscenity in the name of tourism promotion.” Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Mirwaiz expressed his outrage over the show, which sparked a heated debate after videos and images went viral online.

“Outrageous! That in the holy month of Ramzan, an obscene fashion show is organized in Gulmarg, pictures & videos from which have gone viral, sparking shock and anger among people. How could it be tolerated in the valley known for its Sufi, saint culture and the deeply religious outlook of its people? Those involved should be immediately held accountable,” Mirwaiz posted.

Reiterating his stance, he further added, “Such obscenity in the name of tourism promotion will not be tolerated in Kashmir.”

The event, reportedly organized as part of tourism promotion efforts, has left many questioning the authorities’ role in allowing such an event to take place during the sacred month. Several religious scholars and community leaders have also voiced their discontent, urging the administration to take strict action against those responsible.

Public Reaction and Political Response

The controversy has ignited a wave of anger among locals, who argue that the event was an insult to the sentiments of the Muslim-majority region. Many social media users have condemned the show, calling it an unnecessary and inappropriate activity, especially during Ramzan, a time of prayer, reflection, and spiritual discipline.

Some political parties and activists have also demanded an official inquiry into the matter. They have urged the Jammu and Kashmir administration to clarify whether the event was organized with official approval or if there was a lapse in oversight.

Authorities Yet to Respond

As the backlash grows, authorities have yet to release an official statement on the matter. It remains unclear if any action will be taken against the organizers of the event. However, the incident has once again brought attention to the ongoing debate over balancing tourism promotion with the cultural and religious sensitivities of Kashmir.

The situation continues to develop, with religious groups and civil society closely monitoring the response from officials. Whether the controversy leads to stricter regulations on public events during Ramzan remains to be seen.(NOK)

Saudi TV Series ‘Muawiyah’ Sparks Controversy in Iran, Iraq, and Egypt Over Historical Depiction

film Muawiyah

A newly released TV series, Muawiyah, has ignited a major controversy across the Middle East, particularly in Iran, Iraq, and Egypt. The 30-episode series, produced by Saudi Arabia’s Middle East Broadcasting Center (MBC), portrays the life and rule of Muawiyah bin Abu Sufyan, the founder of the Umayyad Caliphate. However, its depiction of historical events has led to heated debates, bans, and religious opposition in several countries.

The Story Behind the Series

The series focuses on the period following the assassination of Caliph Uthman ibn Affan, leading to the rise of Muawiyah and the subsequent conflicts that shaped early Islamic history. Filmed in Tunisia, the show aims to provide a detailed look at Muawiyah’s life—not just as a ruler but as a human being with strengths and flaws.

Despite its historical backdrop, the series has been met with strong resistance, with critics arguing that it distorts history and could fuel sectarian tensions.

Bans and Criticism Across Countries

Iran’s Response

Iran has outright banned the series, with its media regulatory body, SATRA (Comprehensive Audiovisual and Television Regulatory Authority), accusing it of attempting to “sanitize the image of the Umayyad dynasty.” Iranian officials claim the show glorifies a controversial historical figure while ignoring the suffering of other key Islamic personalities during that time.

Egypt’s Al-Azhar Fatwa

In Egypt, the prestigious Al-Azhar University issued a fatwa (religious ruling) against the series. The institution objected to the portrayal of Sahaba (Companions of Prophet Muhammad), arguing that any dramatization of such figures should maintain their true dignity and status. Egypt’s Dar al-Ifta, a religious authority, stated that historical figures should not be misrepresented or their lives altered for entertainment purposes.

Iraq’s Ban Over Religious Sensitivities

Iraq’s Media and Communications Commission also imposed a ban, citing concerns that the show could increase sectarian tensions. Iraqi officials warned that airing Muawiyah could spark religious debates, especially during Ramadan, when the series was released.

Producers Defend the Show

The show’s director, Palestinian filmmaker Tarek Al-Arian, and its writer, Egyptian Khaled Saleh, have defended Muawiyah against the backlash. They insist that the series was not created to promote any political or religious agenda but rather to present a balanced historical perspective.

A statement from the production team highlighted that Muawiyah is depicted as a complex figure—neither entirely heroic nor villainous—allowing audiences to see him as a leader with human weaknesses.

MBC’s History with Controversial Islamic Dramas

This is not the first time MBC has faced criticism for a historical Islamic series. In 2012, the network produced a 31-episode drama about Caliph Umar ibn Al-Khattab, which also received backlash for portraying key Islamic figures on screen.

MBC, founded in 1991 and currently headquartered in Saudi Arabia’s capital, Riyadh, has remained a dominant force in the Arab media industry. Despite past controversies, the network continues to produce historical and religious dramas, often stirring debates across the region.

Conclusion

The Muawiyah series has once again highlighted the sensitivity of historical portrayals in the Islamic world. While some view it as an attempt to shed light on a crucial period of Islamic history, others argue that dramatizing religious figures risks misrepresentation and sectarian tensions.

As the debate rages on, the bans in Iran, Iraq, and Egypt show how historical narratives remain deeply influential in contemporary religious and political discourse. Whether the series will continue airing in other regions remains to be seen, but its impact on the Middle East is undeniable.

28-Year Kashmiri Youth Faizan Rasool Duped with job Promise, Held Hostage in Myanmar

Faizan Rasool

A 28-year-old Kashmiri man, Faizan Rasool, has fallen victim to an international trafficking scheme, leaving his family in distress as they seek urgent government intervention for his release. Rasool, a resident of Safakadal, Srinagar, was misled with a fraudulent job offer and has now been held captive in Myanmar, where his captors demand a ransom of Rs 4.5 lakh for his release.

A Deceptive Promise Turned Nightmare

Faizan Rasool, like many other young men in search of better employment opportunities, trusted a friend who assured him of a lucrative job in Thailand. Unaware of the lurking danger, Faizan embarked on the journey, only to be smuggled into Myanmar, a country where human trafficking and job scams are on the rise. His family, now gripped with fear, pleads for urgent intervention, fearing that they may never see their son again.

Family’s Desperate Plea

Speaking to local media, Faizan’s father, Ghulam Rasool Bhat, expressed his helplessness and anxiety over his son’s safety. “We are devastated. If the J&K government does not act swiftly, we may lose our son forever. These traffickers are ruthless, and with each passing day, our fear grows stronger,” he lamented.

The family is unable to pay the ransom demanded by the captors. They have appealed to the authorities, both at the state and central levels, to step in and secure Faizan’s safe return.

Rising Cases of Job Scams and Human Trafficking

Faizan’s case is not an isolated incident. Recently, another Kashmiri youth returned home after his family managed to gather and pay a similar ransom. However, the financial burden left them struggling with deep debt. Cases like these highlight the growing trend of young men being deceived by fake job offers, only to find themselves trapped in foreign lands under horrific conditions.

Reports suggest that organized trafficking networks are actively targeting young job seekers, particularly from economically vulnerable backgrounds. The victims are often promised well-paying jobs abroad but are instead sold into forced labor or held for ransom.

Urgent Need for Government Action

As the frequency of such incidents increases, experts emphasize the need for stricter border controls, awareness campaigns, and legal action against fraudulent recruiters. Families affected by such schemes are calling upon the Indian government and international agencies to intervene and dismantle these trafficking networks.

The Jammu and Kashmir government, along with the Ministry of External Affairs, must work together to ensure Faizan Rasool’s safe return. Diplomatic channels should be activated to trace and rescue him, while stringent measures should be put in place to prevent further cases of human trafficking.

Conclusion

Faizan Rasool’s plight serves as a grim reminder of the dangers faced by job seekers who fall victim to trafficking scams. His family’s desperate plea for help underscores the urgent need for action. Without timely intervention, many more lives could be at risk. The government must take immediate steps to rescue Faizan and strengthen protections against human trafficking, ensuring that no family has to endure such anguish in the future.

As Faizan’s loved ones await a response from the authorities, the world watches, hoping that justice will be served and that he will safely return home.

Srinagar’s Tulip Garden Set to Bloom: A Spectacular Spring Awaits in 2025!

Tulip Garden

As the winter chill begins to fade and the first signs of spring emerge in the Kashmir Valley, all eyes turn to one of the region’s most cherished natural wonders: the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden in Srinagar. Nestled between the serene Dal Lake and the majestic Zabarwan Hills, this sprawling floral paradise—Asia’s largest tulip garden—is gearing up for its much-anticipated 2025 season. With preparations in full swing, the garden promises a breathtaking display of over 1.7 million tulips across 73 vibrant varieties, setting the stage for a spectacular spring that will captivate visitors from around the globe.

A Floral Extravaganza in the Heart of Kashmir

The Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden, formerly known as Siraj Bagh, has become synonymous with the arrival of spring in Jammu and Kashmir. Spanning an impressive 74 acres across seven terraced slopes, the garden transforms into a sea of color each year as millions of tulip bulbs burst into bloom. For 2025, the Floriculture Department has outdone itself, introducing five new tulip varieties to the existing 68, alongside an expanded area to accommodate the record-breaking 1.7 million blooms. This ambitious undertaking ensures that the garden remains a dynamic and ever-evolving attraction, drawing nature lovers, photographers, and tourists eager to witness its splendor.

The garden’s grand opening is slated for mid-to-late March—tentatively around March 19 or March 23, depending on the blooming cycle and weather conditions. This annual event coincides with the Tulip Festival, a cultural and horticultural celebration that highlights Kashmir’s natural beauty and rich heritage. Running for approximately 20 to 30 days, the festival offers the perfect window to experience the tulips at their peak, with early April often cited as the prime time to visit when the flowers are in full, radiant bloom.

A Legacy of Beauty and Tourism

Established in 2007 under the vision of then-Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, the tulip garden was conceived as a means to extend Jammu and Kashmir’s tourist season beyond the traditional summer and winter months. What began with a modest 50,000 tulip bulbs imported from Holland has since blossomed into an internationally recognized landmark, earning accolades such as a ranking among the top five tulip destinations at the 2017 Tulip Summit in Canada and recognition by the World Book of Records. Today, it plays a pivotal role in boosting the local economy, with last year’s season alone attracting over 4.65 lakh visitors in just 25 to 30 days.

The garden’s success lies not only in its scale but also in its meticulous planning. The Floriculture Department plants bulbs in phases to prolong the blooming period, ensuring that visitors can enjoy the display for as long as possible despite the tulips’ delicate three-to-five-week lifespan. This year, additional enhancements—such as new parking facilities spanning four kanals (0.5 acres) and the inclusion of other spring flowers like hyacinths, daffodils, muscari, and cyclamens—promise an even richer experience.

A Feast for the Senses

Stepping into the tulip garden is like entering a living painting. Rows upon rows of tulips in every imaginable hue—fiery reds, sunny yellows, soft pinks, deep purples, and pristine whites—stretch across the terraced landscape, framed by the snow-capped peaks of the Zabarwan Range and the shimmering waters of Dal Lake. The new varieties introduced for 2025 add fresh splashes of color and texture, from double-blooming tulips to exotic parrot tulips, ensuring that no two visits feel quite the same.

Beyond the tulips, the garden’s design enhances its allure. Water channels flow through the terraces, reflecting the vibrant blooms, while fountains and well-maintained walkways invite leisurely strolls. The air is filled with the subtle fragrance of flowers and the gentle hum of spring, offering a sensory escape that feels both tranquil and invigorating. For photographers, the garden is a dream come true, with endless opportunities to capture the interplay of light, color, and landscape against one of the most picturesque backdrops in the world.

A Cultural Celebration

The Tulip Festival is more than just a floral showcase—it’s a celebration of Kashmiri culture and hospitality. Visitors can expect a lineup of traditional music and dance performances, showcasing the valley’s rich artistic heritage. Local artisans set up stalls outside the garden, offering handmade crafts like intricately woven shawls, papier-mâché souvenirs, and wooden carvings—perfect keepsakes to commemorate the visit. Food stalls serve up authentic Kashmiri delicacies, from the hearty Rogan Josh and Gustaba to the soothing Kahwa tea, infusing the experience with the flavors of the region.

The festival also aligns with the broader “Bahar-i-Kashmir” (Spring of Kashmir) initiative, welcoming the season with open arms and reinforcing the garden’s role as a symbol of renewal and resilience. For many, it’s a chance to see Kashmir at its most vibrant, a stark contrast to the quiet, snow-laden winters that precede it.

Planning Your Visit

The tulip garden’s accessibility makes it an easy addition to any Srinagar itinerary. Located just 8 kilometers from Lal Chowk, the city’s main center, and 19 kilometers from Srinagar International Airport, it’s reachable by taxi, auto-rickshaw, or even a scenic hike for the adventurous. Entry fees remain affordable—typically ₹75 for adults, ₹30 for children, and ₹200 for foreigners—though prices may vary slightly in 2025, so it’s wise to check ahead. The garden operates daily from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM, with online ticketing options available to streamline entry and avoid crowds.

The best time to visit is from late March to mid-April, with the first two weeks of April offering the most dazzling display. The weather during this period is pleasantly cool, averaging 10°C to 20°C, ideal for outdoor exploration. Pair your visit with nearby attractions like the Mughal gardens of Shalimar Bagh and Nishat Bagh, or a shikara ride on Dal Lake, to fully immerse yourself in Srinagar’s springtime charm.

A Blooming Future

As preparations for 2025 reach their final stages, the excitement is palpable. Workers and floriculture experts are busy putting the finishing touches on the garden, ensuring that every bulb, pathway, and vista is ready to welcome the anticipated rush of visitors. With its blend of natural splendor, cultural richness, and innovative enhancements, Srinagar’s tulip garden is poised to outshine even its previous seasons, promising a spring spectacle that will linger in memory long after the last petal falls.

So, mark your calendars and pack your bags—Srinagar’s Tulip Garden is set to bloom, and a spectacular spring awaits in 2025! Whether you’re a nature enthusiast, a culture seeker, or simply someone in search of beauty, this floral paradise offers an experience that transcends the ordinary, inviting you to witness Kashmir in its most enchanting season.

Locals Angry as 90% of Pahalgam Construction Notices Target Small Homeowners, Not Hoteliers

Omar Abdullah

The Jammu and Kashmir government has issued 256 new notices for construction deviations in Pahalgam, adding to the growing concerns among locals over alleged bias in enforcement actions. Residents claim that while small homeowners are being penalized for minor extensions like bathrooms and storage spaces, large hotel owners who have constructed multi-story buildings with hundreds of rooms continue to operate without any action.

Government Issues Fresh Notices

On Thursday, the Jammu and Kashmir government confirmed that a total of 256 notices had been issued under the Pahalgam Development Authority (PDA) for violations in construction regulations. This follows an earlier announcement of 269 notices, making it a total of 525 notices in recent weeks. The notices were issued as part of an official effort to curb unauthorized constructions in the region.

However, the move has sparked outrage among the local population, who argue that nearly 90% of these notices target small homeowners, particularly those who have built minor structures such as bathrooms or storage areas outside their homes. Many believe this enforcement is unfair, as it does not seem to apply equally to wealthy hoteliers who have built massive structures in the area.

Locals Raise Questions Over Selective Action

Residents have questioned why large hotels, some of which have constructed eight-story buildings with hundreds of rooms, have not received a single notice. They allege that authorities are focusing on small homeowners while ignoring big business interests in the region.

“Why are only locals being targeted? We have a right to build small extensions like bathrooms and stores. Meanwhile, luxury hotels are expanding without any restrictions,” said a local resident.

Another protester stated, “If the government is serious about maintaining Pahalgam’s natural beauty and preventing unauthorized construction, they should take action against everyone equally, not just the weaker sections of society.”

Waheed-ur-Rehman Para’s Role in Raising the Issue

MLA Pulwama, Waheed-ur-Rehman Para, had earlier raised a question in the Assembly about the total number of illegal and unauthorized constructions in Pahalgam. However, locals feel that he should have specifically asked how many of the notices were issued to small homeowners and how many were given to hoteliers.

They argue that the real issue is not just the number of notices but who is receiving them. “Waheed Para should have asked how many notices were given to local residents versus hotel owners. The government must answer this question,” said a resident.

Authorities Defend Their Actions

In response to these concerns, the Jammu and Kashmir government has maintained that the notices are issued based on clear violations of the law. The Chief Minister, who also serves as the Minister of Tourism, stated that the Pahalgam Development Authority is responsible for ensuring that all constructions adhere to legal permissions.

“The PDA is the nodal agency for checking deviations and unauthorized constructions in the notified areas. Demolition drives are carried out whenever required,” the minister said.

However, critics argue that enforcement should be fair and transparent. They demand that the government release a detailed breakdown of the notices, specifying how many were issued to local homeowners and how many to hotel businesses.

Growing Public Outrage

The issue has sparked protests in Pahalgam, with many locals calling for a review of the notices. They are demanding an independent investigation into the enforcement process to ensure that it is not biased against small property owners.

“We are not against laws, but they should apply to everyone. The government must take strict action against illegal hotel constructions as well,” said another resident.

The ongoing controversy has put pressure on the government to address public concerns and ensure fairness in its actions. As the debate continues, locals are determined to fight for their rights and seek justice in what they see as a deeply unfair situation.
