Atiqa Mir Shines at WSK Final Cup with Two Top-Four Finishes Despite Karting Setbacks

The 11-year-old struggled during qualifying and managed the ninth-fastest time. However, she made strong starts in both Race 1 and Race 2, quickly moving through the field to finish fourth in both races.

Atiqa, the first Indian driver to receive support from the F1 Academy, was classified 14th after the two heat races in a highly competitive field of 72 drivers.

Her performance earned her seventh place on the grid for the pre-final. She ran as high as fifth for most of the race before eventually finishing ninth.

In the final, Atiqa was involved in a crash that damaged her kart and forced her to retire from the race.

“It was a mixed weekend for me. I was expecting more, but we were struggling for pace. I managed to fight my way up in most of the races and was in a competitive position for the pre-final and final,” Atiqa said.

She added that the lack of pace affected her performance on the long straights at Franciacorta.

Atiqa is backed by JK Tyre and Raise.

Her father, Asif Mir, India’s first national karting champion, praised her performance despite the challenges she faced during the weekend.

“Atiqa had a very good weekend. She showed her race craft and maturity while driving a kart that was not the fastest on the grid. But she kept fighting, and I really liked her positive attitude this weekend,” he said.

Atiqa will next compete in Round 4 of the Champions of the Future Academy in Spain. She had earlier dominated the Greece round of the championship this year.
