Army Soldier Dies After Accidental Service Rifle Discharge in Akhnoor Sector of Jammu
An Indian Army soldier lost his life after his service rifle accidentally discharged while he was on operational duty at a forward post in the Akhnoor sector of Jammu, officials said on Monday.
The tragic incident took place on Sunday in the Jogwan area of Khour, a forward location along the border.
Weapon Accidentally Discharged
According to officials, preliminary information suggests that the soldier’s service rifle accidentally went off while he was performing operational duties.
The accidental discharge caused severe injuries to the soldier.
He was immediately given medical assistance, but despite the efforts of medical staff, he later succumbed to his injuries.
Body Shifted for Postmortem
Officials said the soldier’s body was shifted to the Military Hospital in Akhnoor for a postmortem examination.
After the completion of all legal formalities, the body will be handed over to his family for the last rites.
