1991 Jammu Railway Station Blast: Terror Accused Arrested After 35 Years in Anantnag

A man accused of involvement in the 1991 Jammu railway station bomb blast has been arrested in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district after remaining on the run for 35 years, police said on Thursday. Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

The accused, identified as Altaf Hussain Sheikh, was arrested by the Railway Police in the Bijbehara area of Anantnag. Police said he had allegedly concealed his identity for several decades and was living as a businessman.

Sheikh was produced before the TADA Court on August 13, 2026, for further legal proceedings.

Three Killed in 1991 Jammu Railway Blast

According to police, Sheikh and three other accused allegedly carried out the bombing at Platform Number 1 of Jammu Railway Station in 1991.

The blast killed three people, including two paramilitary personnel, and injured 18 civilians.

One of the accused, Aman Ullah Khan, was arrested on the day of the attack. However, the other three suspects allegedly managed to escape and remained absconding for decades.

They were subsequently declared absconders by the concerned court.

Police Trace Accused After Two-Year Manhunt

The Jammu Railway Police said they intensified efforts to trace Sheikh over the past two years.

According to the police, investigators carried out detailed verification of his identity, residential records and other personal details before establishing that he was living under a concealed identity in the Bijbehara area.

Police said Sheikh had managed to establish himself as a successful businessman while allegedly remaining hidden from law enforcement agencies.

“After a long chase of 35 years,” the Railway Police finally arrested him, according to the official statement.

Produced Before TADA Court

Following his arrest, Sheikh was brought before the TADA Court on August 13, 2026.

Police said further legal proceedings would now be initiated in accordance with the law.

The arrest marks a significant development in a case that had remained unresolved for more than three decades. Authorities are continuing the legal process against the accused in connection with the 1991 blast.

The allegations against Sheikh will be subject to judicial proceedings.
