The Prime Minister has approved compensation from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF):

  • Next of Kin: The families of those who died will receive Rs 2 lakh each.
  • The Injured: Those wounded in the crash will receive Rs 50,000 each.

In a post on social media, PM Modi shared his condolences:

“Pained by the loss of lives due to a bus accident in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. May the injured recover at the earliest.”

Summary of the Incident

The accident took place on Monday morning when an overcrowded bus plunged into a 150-foot gorge near Kanote village. The crash resulted in 17 deaths and left 32 people injured.

Rescue operations were conducted by the police, SDRF, and local villagers. While many victims are being treated at the Sub-District Hospital in Ramnagar, the most critical patients have been airlifted to Jammu for specialized intensive care.

Authorities, including Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, are monitoring the situation closely to ensure all survivors receive the necessary medical support.
