IGP Kashmir VK Birdi Announces Major Crackdown on Drug Peddlers, Warns Over Sopore Incident

Vidhi Kumar Birdi

VK Birdi, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone, on Tuesday announced a stronger crackdown on drug peddlers and smugglers across the valley.

Speaking to reporters during Baisakhi celebrations in Srinagar, Birdi said Jammu and Kashmir Police will follow a strict zero tolerance policy against narcotics.

Anti-Drug Campaign to Intensify

The IGP said the campaign against drugs has received fresh momentum under the Drug Free India initiative.

“All police ranks have been directed to maintain zero tolerance towards drugs,” Birdi said.

He added that in the coming days, the anti-drug operation will become much stronger and more active across Kashmir.

Strict Action Against Drug Networks

Birdi warned that police would take the strongest possible action against drug peddlers, smugglers, and people involved in substance abuse.

He said the aim is to protect both present and future generations from the dangers of addiction.

Warning Over Sopore Incident

Referring to a recent disturbance in Sopore, the IGP said some individuals tried to commit an illegal act and took the law into their own hands on Monday.

He clarified that those involved had no connection with a school, which was earlier linked to the unrest.

“If anyone tries to commit illegal acts, Jammu and Kashmir Police will take legal action against them,” Birdi warned.

Police Focus on Law and Order

The latest statement shows that Kashmir Police are focusing on both drug control and maintaining law and order across the region. Authorities are expected to increase raids and operations in the coming weeks.
