Jailed Baramulla Member of Parliament Engineer Rashid was on Monday granted interim bail by a court to attend the last rites of his father, Haji Khazir Mohammad Sheikh, who passed away at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi after a prolonged illness. The 85-year-old had been undergoing treatment at different hospitals in Srinagar before being shifted to AIIMS Delhi for advanced medical care, where he died.
According to the Awami Ittehad Party (AIP), the court granted interim bail soon after news of his father’s death emerged, allowing the jailed MP to participate in funeral prayers and perform the final rites according to religious customs.
Speaking to news agency KNS, an AIP spokesperson said Engineer Rashid was expected to arrive at Srinagar Airport around 4 PM.
Engineer Rashid has been lodged in Tihar Jail since 2019 after being arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in a terror funding case.
Meanwhile, political leaders, party workers, and people from different sections of society expressed condolences with the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.
