J&K Weather Forecast: Cloudy Days, Rain, Snow, and Gusty Winds Expected from April 8 to 20

The Met Centre Srinagar has issued a weather forecast for Jammu and Kashmir, covering the period from April 8 to April 20, 2025.

According to the forecast, the region can expect a mix of cloudy and dry conditions, with a possibility of light rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds.

On April 8, the region is expected to experience generally cloudy conditions towards the afternoon, with a possibility of light rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds, as well as snow over higher reaches of North and Central Kashmir towards evening and night.

The following days, April 9 and 10, are expected to be generally cloudy with intermittent spells of light rain and snow at many places, accompanied by a possibility of thunderstorms and gusty winds, reaching speeds of 30-40 km/h, at a few places.

On April 11, the region is likely to experience generally cloudy conditions with light rain and snow at scattered places towards morning, followed by improvement. The period from April 12 to 17 is expected to be generally dry, before fresh spells of rain and snow return from April 18 to 20.

In light of the forecast, travelers, tourists, and transporters are advised to follow admin and traffic advisories, while farmers are recommended to suspend farm operations during April 9 and 10.

Meteorological Centre Srinagar (MeT) Predicts Dry to Wet Spell in J&K; Light Rain and Snow Likely in Coming Days

The Meteorological Centre Srinagar on Friday Predicted a mix of dry and wet weather over the next few days in Jammu and Kashmir.

According to MeT Centre, Kashmir will see generally dry weather from April 4-7, followed by cloudy skies with a possibility of light rain and snow in higher reaches, particularly in North and Central Kashmir, on April 08 and widespread light rain and snow expected in Kashmir Division, with scattered showers in Jammu Division on April 9.

Scattered light rain and snow are expected on April 10-11, before dry weather returns from April 12-15.

The Met Centre Srinagar has issued an advisory, urging travelers, tourists, and transporters to follow administrative and traffic advisories, while farmers are advised to continue with farm operations.

The dry spell is expected to continue from April 4-7, with another possibility of light snow over higher reaches of North Kashmir and Sonamarg on April 8.

However, from April 9-10, the region can expect generally cloudy skies with light rain/snow at scattered places in Kashmir Division and isolated places in Jammu Division.

The Met Centre Srinagar has advised travelers, tourists, and transporters to follow admin/traffic advisories, while farmers are advised to continue their farm operations.

Weather Advisory for Jammu & Kashmir: Light Rain, Strong Winds Expected on March 28

The Meteorological Centre in Srinagar has issued a weather advisory for Jammu and Kashmir, predicting a mix of light rain and strong surface winds in the region.

Isolated areas in Kashmir and Jammu Division may experience light rain and thunderstorms, accompanied by strong surface winds reaching 60-70 km/h during the afternoon and late afternoon of March 28th.

Generally dry weather is expected from March 29-31st, with dry conditions forecasted to continue from April 1-6th.

Residents and visitors are advised to take necessary precautions, with travelers, tourists, and transporters urged to follow administrative and traffic advisories.

Farmers can resume farm operations, while the general public is cautioned to stay indoors and avoid boating, Shikara riding, and standing near weak structures and electric wires due to strong surface winds.

The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has predicted intermittent spells of light to moderate rain and snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir on March 15-16.According to the forecast, most places in the region can expect intermittent spells of light to moderate rain/snow on March 15.

On March 16, a brief spell of light rain/snow is expected at a few places in the morning, with improvement in the weather expected towards the afternoon.Thereafter, the weather is expected to remain generally dry from March 17 to 25, with cloudiness predicted on the evening of March 19.

The MeT Centre has issued advisories for travelers, tourists, transporters, and farmers. “Travelers, tourists, and transporters are advised to follow administrative and traffic advisories,” it said.

Farmers have been advised to suspend farm operations until March 16. The MeT Centre has also warned people to avoid sloppy and avalanche-prone areas, and be cautious of landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones at vulnerable spots.

Fresh Snowfall in Higher Reaches, Rainfall in Plains
The upper reaches of Kashmir have experienced moderate to heavy snowfall, particularly in areas such as Sadhna Top, Machil, Keran sector, Gulmarg, Gurez Valley, Razdan Top, Zojila Pass, and Sonamarg. Meanwhile, the plains, including Srinagar, were hit by persistent rain, leading to a drop in temperatures across the region.With snowfall intensifying in the higher altitudes, the IMD has cautioned that the heaviest precipitation will occur from March 13 to March 15, posing potential risks in vulnerable locations.

IMD Issues Orange Alert: Warnings for Farmers and Travelers
As severe weather conditions persist, the IMD has advised farmers to suspend all agricultural activities from March 10 to March 16. The advisory urges tourists, travelers, and transporters to follow traffic guidelines and administrative advisories to avoid disruptions.“Avoid steep and avalanche-prone areas,” the weather department’s statement read, highlighting concerns over landslides and snow-related accidents. Authorities have urged travelers to check road conditions before commencing journeys to prevent being stranded in hazardous zones.

With extreme weather conditions anticipated in the coming days, authorities remain on high alert to ensure public safety and minimize disruptions.
