The Met Centre Srinagar has issued a nowcast update for Jammu and Kashmir, warning of light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds at many places across the region.

According to the update, intense showers can be expected at a few places for short periods, and the weather conditions are likely to prevail for the next 4-6 hours.

Residents are advised to take necessary precautions and stay safe during this period. The Met Centre has issued the following safety advisories:

Stay away from water channels, loose structures, and landslide-prone areas.Avoid boating and Shikara riding in Dal Lake and other water bodies.Stay inside safe shelters during thunderstorms and lightning.

The Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory Disaster Management Authority (JKUTDMA) on Friday issued a weather advisory, warning residents about the possibility of moderate rainfall with intense to heavy showers at many places during the next six to eight hours.
According to the alert, the wet spell is likely to be accompanied by severe thunderstorms, frequent lightning strikes, and strong winds across several areas of the Union Territory.
The disaster management authorities have urged the public to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel, especially in areas prone to landslides and flash floods. People living near water bodies and loose structures have been strongly advised to remain cautious during this period, as the conditions may turn dangerous due to the expected severe weather.
“Residents are advised to stay away from water bodies, avoid taking shelter under trees or unstable structures, and exercise utmost caution in landslide-prone zones,” an official statement said.

Authorities have also reminded the public to remain alert and follow safety protocols to prevent any mishaps. In case of emergencies, people have been asked to contact the helpline number 112 for immediate assistance.
The advisory comes amid changing weather conditions in the region, which has already witnessed cloudy skies and scattered showers since early morning.

The Meteorological department today predicted almost a weeklong pause in wet spell across Jammu and Kashmir from April 12.

An official said that the weather will likely remain generally cloudy with intermittent brief spells of light rain and snow over higher reaches at many places with possibility of thunderstorm, gusty winds of 30-40 KMPH speed at few places on April 11.

He however predicted generally dry weather across J&K from April 12-17. “The outlook during subsequent three days it shows there will likely be dry weather in J&K during April 12 and 17,” he said.

The official also said that from April 18-20 there is a possibility of fresh spells of light to moderate rain and snow over higher reaches at many places accompanied with thunder and gusty winds from April 18 evening onwards, and advised travelers, tourists and transporters to follow traffic advisories accordingly.

He also advised farmers to resume farm operations from April 12 onwards till April 17.

Snowfall, Rains,Thunderstorm and Gusty Winds Predicted for Tomorrow

A day after recording the hottest day, Kashmir on Tuesday witnessed a dip in the maximum temperatures as several higher reaches experienced fresh snowfall while the rains lashed the plains.

According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), several upper reaches including Sinthan Top received fresh snowfall today while the rains lashed Kashmir till this evening, bringing down the mercury by 4 degree Celsius in Srinagar and by some degrees in other parts compared to yesterday.

Pertinently, Srinagar on Monday recorded the season’s hottest day today at 28.2 degree Celsius, which was 9.4 degree Celsius above than the normal temperature.

However, the temperature plummeted by four degree Celsius today and settled at 24.4 degree Celsius.

The weather remained cloudy mostly while the rains lashed Kashmir parts from this afternoon.

It is worth mentioning here that the local Meteorological department (MeT) has issued a yellow alert for tomorrow, predicting isolated thunderstorm, hailstorm, lightning and gusty winds 30-40 KMPH in both the divisions of Jammu and Kashmir.

As per the details, Director MeT, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad said that there is a possibility of intermittent spells of light rain and snow (higher reaches) for the next two days at many places of Kashmir division & scattered places of Jammu division with possibility of thunderstorm and Gusty winds (30-40 KMPH) at few places.

He also predicted light rain and snow (higher reaches) at scattered places towards morning & improvement thereafter on April 11, adding that from April 12 to April 17, the weather would remain generally dry while from April 18 to 20, fresh spells of rain and snow (higher reaches) is expected during the period.

Meanwhile, the travellers, tourists and transporters have been advised to follow administration and traffic advisory while the farmers have been advised to suspend farm operations for the next two days—(KNO)

The Meteorological Centre Srinagar on Friday Predicted a mix of dry and wet weather over the next few days in Jammu and Kashmir.

According to MeT Centre, Kashmir will see generally dry weather from April 4-7, followed by cloudy skies with a possibility of light rain and snow in higher reaches, particularly in North and Central Kashmir, on April 08 and widespread light rain and snow expected in Kashmir Division, with scattered showers in Jammu Division on April 9.

Scattered light rain and snow are expected on April 10-11, before dry weather returns from April 12-15.
