Chaudhary Ramzan Says Aga Ruhullah’s Views Reflect Different Approach, Not Opposition to NC

Chaudhary Ramzan

National Conference leader and Rajya Sabha member Chaudhary Muhammad Ramzan on Monday said that comments made by Aga Ruhullah Mehdi reflect a difference in approach, not opposition to the National Conference.

Speaking to Kashmir News Service (KNS), Ramzan said that internal discussion and debate within a party should not be seen as disloyalty. He said that Aga Ruhullah and the Chief Minister may have different ways of addressing issues, but both remain committed to the party.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

“Aga and the Chief Minister have different approaches to solving problems. This does not mean he is against the National Conference. If he were against the party, he would have resigned,” Ramzan said.

He added that they meet regularly during Parliament sessions and often discuss important parliamentary matters together. “We meet in Parliament almost every day and share ideas. He is a young and passionate leader with a long political future. May Allah grant him good health and help him achieve his goals,” he added.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah

On Powers of the Elected Government

Speaking about administrative powers in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Ramzan said the elected government still does not enjoy full authority. He said that most powers continue to remain with the Lieutenant Governor’s office.

He stressed the need for clear business rules to define the responsibilities of the LG, the cabinet, and elected representatives. “We raised this issue in Parliament and asked what the purpose of elections was if the elected government and MLAs still have no real powers,” he said.

On PM Modi and Statehood

Responding to questions about Omar Abdullah praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ramzan said that the Prime Minister’s constitutional position naturally commands respect.

He said the National Conference government received a strong public mandate, but full powers promised after delimitation have not yet been restored. “Delimitation has taken place, elections were held, but statehood has still not been restored. This remains our top priority,” he said.

On Safety of Kashmiris Outside J&K

Ramzan also condemned incidents of violence and mistreatment against Kashmiri residents outside the Union Territory. He said such behaviour against J&K youth and workers is unacceptable.

He added that the Union Home Minister has directed all state governments to ensure fair and respectful treatment of people from Jammu and Kashmir, and that action has already started against those involved in such incidents.

On Prisoners and Reservation

Talking about J&K prisoners lodged outside the UT, Ramzan said many are detained in minor cases and lack basic facilities. He said the Home Minister has assured legal help, medical care, and access for families.

On the issue of reservation, Ramzan said the National Conference fully supports it and had clearly mentioned it in the party manifesto. He said a Cabinet Sub-Committee prepared its report following Supreme Court guidelines.

“The UT cabinet approved the report and sent it to the Lieutenant Governor. Once it is signed, the reservation policy will be implemented,” he said.

Harassment of Kashmiris Undermines National Integration, Warns Sajad Lone

Sajad Lone Criticises

Peoples Conference Chairman and MLA Handwara Sajad Lone on Saturday delivered a highly concerning address, warning that the growing incidents of harassment of Kashmiris in different parts of the country are eroding the very foundations of national integration and must be treated as a matter of national security rather than isolated law-and-order episodes.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Addressing a press conference, Lone said he was compelled to speak after being approached by numerous families from his constituency who narrated disturbing experiences faced by their relatives outside Jammu and Kashmir. “If in our own country we are subjected to this kind of behaviour, then one has to ask a painful question what is our status in this country?” he said.

The press conference was attended by senior party leaders including Vice President Abdul Gani Vakil, Chief Spokesperson Advocate Bashir Ahmed Dar, Party Spokesman Muneeb Qurashi and Spokesperson Bisma Meer.

Lone underlined that migration for work is not a recent phenomenon. “In districts like mine, at least 25 to 35 percent of the male population has been living and working in other parts of India for the last fifty to sixty years. Many have purchased homes and built stable lives there,” he noted, adding that these people played a silent but decisive role in strengthening India’s internal cohesion.

Aga Ruhullah Mehdi Urges Jamia Students to Strive for Excellence, Empathy, and Cultural Preservation

Member of Parliament from Srinagar, Aga Ruhullah Mehdi, on Saturday interacted with students of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) at the Auditorium, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, as the keynote speaker at a Darbar interaction.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

In a statement issued, the discussion focused on youth and social issues in Jammu and Kashmir, with students engaging in an open dialogue and raising questions on education, employment, substance abuse, and broader social concerns affecting young people from the region.

The discussion brought together senior academics and administrators, including JMI Chief Proctor Mohammad Asad Malik; Associate Proctor Dr Maqsood Ahmad Malik; Professor, Department of Arabic, Abdul Majid Qazi, who also served as the teacher-in-charge of the event; Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, Dr Shashikant Rai; and Post-Doctoral Fellow at Jawaharlal NehruUniversity, Dr Haroon Rashid.

Addressing the students, the honourable MP urged them not to accept mediocrity or complacency in their personal and intellectual lives. “Do not settle for humiliation, the ordinary, or the norm. Our purpose is excellence. You are created to innovate,” he said, encouraging students to reflect on the Quranic dialogue between Allah and the angels, which, he noted, speaks to the essence of human creation. “If you return to that dialogue, you will understand that, as human beings, we are expected to excel.”

He added that humanity was created to bridge gaps, challenge distortions, and strive for the highest moral and intellectual standards, describing this pursuit as central to both achievement and worship.

Quoting philosopher-poet Allama Iqbal, he told students that material success alone does not define one’s true worth. “Palaces and grandeur are not your reality. Your reality lies beyond these things.Rise above them, or you will remain trapped in petty ambitions,” he said.

Emphasising the role of education, the MP cautioned students against becoming passive recipients of institutional knowledge. “Books and institutions should equip you with skills and tools. Do not become their extensions. If you stop questioning and adding to existing knowledge, innovation dies,” he said, urging students to treat established conclusions as supplementary rather than final.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Proctor Mohammad Asad Malik spoke about the growing concern of substance abuse among youth, including on university campuses. Calling it a collective responsibility, he said, “It is not just the administration’s duty. Students must remain alert, flag what they see around them, and take their education seriously, because this is the time that shapes your future.”

Responding to a student’s question on why substance users are often treated as criminals, Mehdi criticised what he described as a constant counter-insurgency mindset in Jammu and Kashmir, even in civilian and social contexts. He said such an approach leads to excessive securitisation of everyday issues and fails to recognise the human realities behind them.

He stressed that individuals struggling with substance use should not be viewed through a criminal lens but as people dealing with serious health and social challenges. “Law enforcement agencies in Jammu and Kashmir need to move away from punitive reflexes and instead adopt a more empathetic, rehabilitative approach that prioritises care, support, and long-term recovery,” he said.

He also spoke about the cultural responsibilities of Kashmiri youth, warning of sustained pressures on identity.

“There is an onslaught on our identity. This places a double responsibility on us, to preserve who we are and to protect our Kashmiri language,” he said. (KNS)

Iltija Mufti Seeks FIR Against Nitish Kumar Over Veil Incident Involving Muslim Woman Doctor

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Iltija Mufti has filed a formal complaint seeking the registration of an FIR against Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over an incident in which he allegedly pulled aside the face veil of a Muslim woman doctor during a government function.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

In the complaint, Iltija Mufti described the act as a serious violation of personal dignity, bodily autonomy and religious freedom, arguing that the incident amounts to an offence under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Constitution. She said the act, carried out at a public event, was not only humiliating for the woman concerned but also sent a “deeply disturbing message” about respect for women and minorities in positions of power.

The complaint states that the doctor, identified as an AYUSH practitioner receiving an appointment letter, appeared visibly taken aback during the incident, while the chief minister proceeded without consent. Iltija Mufti asserted that such behaviour by a constitutional authority cannot be normalised or dismissed as inadvertent, particularly when it involves interference with personal attire rooted in faith and choice.

Highlighting that such migration has been a long-standing tradition for people of the district, PC President emphasized that their safety and dignity must be ensured at all costs by the Central Government.

“It’s why I approached the Honourable High Court to request that undertrials be shifted to their native jails so families can visit them with dignity and support their legal fight. Hoping for a compassionate view,” Mufti said in the post on X.

Sajad Lone Slams CM Omar Abdullah as “Mr. Bechara” Over JKAS Age-Relaxation Crisis, Demands Point-by-Point Rebuttal

sajad lone

J&K Peoples Conference President and MLA Handwara Sajad Gani Lone sharply criticized Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in a press conference on Sunday, calling him “Mr. Bechara” for failing to secure age relaxation for JKAS exams while leaving thousands of aspirants in the lurch.

In his statement, Lone demanded a detailed, point-by-point rebuttal to the Lieutenant Governor’s (LG) recent clarifications, exposing what he called a toxic mix of incompetence, political opportunism and policy betrayals.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

PC President made these hard-hitting remarks at an important press conference held at the party headquarters in Srinagar, flanked by State Secretary (Organisation) Sheikh Imran, District President Srinagar Irfan Mattoo and Party Spokesperson Muneeb Quraishi.

He highlighted the elected government’s baffling inaction, saying “The notification for this examination was released on August 22nd. Then on November 6th, another notification was issued clarifying that the exam would be held on December 7th. I fail to understand how much time the elected government had… what were they so busy with that they could not process this file? And finally, those poor youth, they also have dreams, they had worked hard & now their chance to sit for JKAS is gone.”

Lone zeroed in on CM’s narrative of helplessness, referencing LG’s Twitter post claiming a simple query on funding was ignored after December 2.

“The time has come that CM has to reply to it point by point. If it is true that on December 2nd, the file was sent back with a simple query asking ‘who will pay for the expenses,’ and no reply was given, then he is answerable. He is creating a set of conditions to prove that he is a ‘Bechara’, Mr. Helpless. But ‘Mr. Bechara’ at the cost of whom? At the cost of those students who now could not sit for the exams,” he remarked.

Lone drew stark parallels to unchecked demolitions and unfulfilled electoral pledges. “How long will this go on? Demolitions happen and ‘Mr. Helpless’ says, ‘I don’t even know.’ Anything happens and ‘Mr. Helpless’ says, ‘I don’t know.’ How long will this last? And I want to say, a Chief Minister who painted all of us as BJP before the elections while claiming the earth and sky were all BJP and gave a promise that he is fighting on the plank of Article 370 and 35A, Are you so capable that you couldn’t even get age relaxation for your students? Do you really think that you can get anything back? Let alone 370 and 35A.”

“The CM’s dignity in the Union Territory setup is now “in danger,” Lone warned, urging a written response: “He should come out in detail and in a written format, rebut point by point what has been said. Otherwise, in my eyes, in the eyes of the people, he is guilty of trying to create a set of conditions wherein he is seen as a martyr at the cost of those thousands of aspirants who had dreamt of sitting for the KAS. And let us face it, many of them might have been selected. He has demolished their careers today.”

Dismissing pleas of limited powers, Lone pointed to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s success in a “weaker UT.”

“This is a matter of incompetence. They are just not in the mood to do it. Where will they find the time? Someone should tell me. He holds many big portfolios including Finance, Revenue, Power, Tourism, Urban Development. Five departments. A person of his capabilities, it will take five people just to run Finance. It is out of the question.” He added, “We also want Statehood, we want our 370 back. But extract the maximum from what you have right now. When he Kejriwal could do it in Delhi, why couldn’t you? It is your own whims not to do so”

Lone escalated his criticism on CM’s duplicity at the Hindustan Times Summit, where he dismissed EVM rigging claims, echoing his father Dr. Farooq Abdullah’s views, while calling the INDIA Bloc “in the ICU, on a ventilator and moving on a wheelchair.”

“You tell me with your hand on your heart, would even the biggest enemy of the INDIA Bloc say such things? Look at this classic double play. The father believes the Congress version and Omar Sahib himself believes the BJP version. There is a limit to double play in the year 2025 when you are covered by cameras.”

He further mocked the leadership’s BJP flirtations: “The people who voted for them, on the premise that everyone else is BJP, I am telling them today: go apologize to the others. Look at how he is groveling there. Literally begging them, ‘Take me into your embrace, please take me along.’… They have only one desire: when will they get a photo taken with the PM or the Home Minister. You will see that soon. Here in Kashmir, they say everyone is BJP, but when they go there, you know, if they get a photo, my God. They won’t talk to anyone all day, they will be over the moon.”

Citing history, from 1975’s Congress-backed regime to rigged 1987 polls, Lone accused the family of chronic blame-shifting.

“They have a history. In 1975, Sheikh Sahib became Chief Minister with Congress support. Yet ten times a day he would accuse others of being Congress agents. Now when the recent election happened, everyone was BJP. But at that time, CM conveyed to the BJP, ‘Sir, I am with you, I am your dear Foreign Minister from Vajpayee’s time.”

On policy, PC President decried the failure to reverse LG-era outsourcing, turning “government jobs into private jobs.”

“A party which came to power promising to create 100,000 jobs is actually in the process of converting existing government jobs into private jobs. If their salary is 100 rupees, the outsourcing guy takes 120 or 130 rupees. Unfortunately nobody is talking about it. Urban development has outsourcing. Social Welfare has outsourcing. They will bring everything under outsourcing.”

In a final jab, Lone blamed local leaders for the mess saying “This was done by ‘Tut’. I am 100% sure ‘Tut’ did it. ‘Ut’ didn’t do it. ‘Tut’ also did the demolition. I guarantee it. Because ‘Tut’ was the one who had to become ‘Mr. Bechara’.

Sajad Lone Accuses NC-Led J&K Government of Evading Accountability on Reservation Issue

Sajad Lone Criticises

J&K Peoples Conference President and MLA Handwara Sajad Lone on Wednesday asserted that the NC-led government is not only evading accountability on the reservations issue but is also actively aggravating internal fissures within Kashmiri society by shifting responsibility instead of addressing the core concerns.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

In a statement issued on social media, Lone said he would “reiterate that in the context of the reservations issue, the elected government is passing on the buck” and highlighted that those in power were “trying to create a wedge in the Kashmiri ranks and pit one Kashmiri against the other.”

Calling the government’s hesitation unjustified, he stressed that “the elected government can easily restore district and divisional recruitment through an act in the Assembly.” PC President then posed a pointed question: “Please can someone enlighten me—what are the disadvantages of district and divisional recruitment? Why are we not restoring them?”

Lone listed what he termed the clear advantages of restoring district and divisional recruitment. He said, “In a developing economy as ours, public sector jobs get spread out across all regions, bringing regional inclusivity in jobs.” He added that under such a system, “reservations get restricted to only those reserved categories who are domiciled in the district or division,” which in turn “will bring open merit in Kashmir division to 70 to 80 percent.”

Expressing concern over reports of changes to the reservation structure, he warned: “If what has been stated so far… is true, the only reserved category where Kashmiris benefitted — the RBA — will be slashed.” He said he “failed to understand how that helps Kashmir,” arguing that “the basic reservation problem… would mean the systematic exclusion of Kashmiris in the recruitment process.”

Lone accused the government of repeating the same injustice under a new guise. “You are yet again doing the same but only changing the excluded Kashmiri. So if a Kashmiri named A was earlier excluded, you have substituted it with a Kashmiri called B.”

He placed the issue in broader perspective, stating that “the problem lies between Jammu and Kashmir with the dice loaded heavily in favour of Jammu,” and cautioned that “the ratio will remain unchanged. Eighty percent reservations will still go to Jammu.”

Urging people to examine the numbers themselves, PC President said, “Please take a pen and paper and do some calculations. The data is available in the answer that was provided by the government in response to my question on reservations.”

Lone maintained that the government owes Kashmiris clarity, honesty and legislative action rather than projecting diversion and division.
