Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir: Deepen Commitment to Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) Teachings to Respond to Hurtful Actions

Mirwaiz Omar Farooq

At a recent prize-giving ceremony for the Seerah competition at Srinagar’s historic Jama Masjid, Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir, Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq, delivered an inspiring message. The event, which gathered over 500 students—both boys and girls—from various maktabs in Shahre Khaas, was praised for its remarkable organisation by Maktaba Maseehul Ummah, with the efforts of volunteers and sponsors being equally commended for ensuring the event’s success.

Mirwaiz emphasised the crucial role of mosques and maktabs, noting that they must be more than places of worship. He stressed that these sacred spaces should also serve as centres for learning and character development. Encouraging more such events, he underlined their value in promoting Islamic knowledge and deepening the younger generation’s understanding of the Seerah of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). By connecting the youth with their faith and heritage, these events foster a stronger bond with Islamic teachings.

Mirwaiz’s central message focused on the best way to respond to those who try to hurt our feelings by speaking ill of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Instead of reacting negatively, he encouraged the community to embody the Prophet’s values by living according to his example. This, he argued, is the most powerful response we can offer. By adhering to the teachings of the Prophet (PBUH) and continuing to follow his Seerah, we not only strengthen our own faith but also foster unity within the community.

He further urged continued efforts to host events where participants reaffirm their dedication to the path of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Through such actions, the community can grow stronger, deepen its knowledge, and unite in faith, setting a positive example for others to follow.
