CU Kashmir Law Department Holds Lecture on Civil Services Exam, Challenges and Opportunities

The lecture was delivered by Shri Prince Kumar, IAS, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Uri, who interacted with students and shared insights into the Civil Services Examination and the journey towards becoming a civil servant.
In his welcome address, Prof. Farooq Ahmad Mir, Head and Dean, SLS, highlighted the importance of the UPSC Civil Services Examination and its role in giving young aspirants an opportunity to contribute to public administration and nation-building. He advised students to begin their preparation early, develop a habit of regular reading and maintain consistency and determination.
Delivering the keynote address, Shri Prince Kumar, IAS, explained the structure and stages of the Civil Services Examination, along with practical preparation strategies. He advised students to understand the syllabus and previous years’ question papers, develop strong conceptual clarity, read newspapers and standard study material, and revise regularly.
He also discussed common challenges faced by aspirants, including the vast syllabus, intense competition, time management and maintaining motivation and consistency throughout the preparation process. The lecture was followed by an interactive session with students.
Earlier, Mr Bilal Ahmed Ganai, Senior Assistant Professor, Department of Law and event coordinator, said that a clear understanding of the examination pattern, syllabus, current affairs and preparation strategies can help aspirants approach the examination systematically.
He also highlighted the importance of organising such lectures to give students an opportunity to interact directly with experienced officers and professionals.
LLM scholar Ms Masrat Riyaz conducted the programme, while Dr Imran Ahad Bhat, Assistant Professor, proposed the vote of thanks.
