Asia’s Largest Tulip Garden Opens in Srinagar to Welcome Spring
The arrival of spring in Srinagar was celebrated on Monday as Asia’s largest tulip garden opened for visitors, attracting thousands of tourists and local residents eager to see the colourful flowers in bloom.
According to details shared with Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden, located at the foothills of the Zabarwan mountain range, was officially opened by Omar Abdullah, the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir.
Symbol of Spring in Kashmir
The opening of the tulip garden marks the arrival of spring in the Kashmir Valley and also signals the start of the region’s tourism season, when thousands of visitors travel to enjoy the natural beauty of the area.
The garden is built on terraced slopes overlooking the famous Dal Lake, offering visitors a stunning view of colourful flower beds against the backdrop of mountains and water.
More Than 70 Varieties of Tulips
Officials said that over 70 varieties of tulips have been planted in the garden this year. Lakhs of tulips in bright colours are expected to bloom, creating a spectacular floral display.
Along with tulips, several other spring flowers have also been planted to make the garden even more attractive, including:
- Hyacinths
- Daffodils
- Muscari
- Ranunculus
These flowers add extra colour and variety, making the garden one of the most beautiful spring attractions in the region.
A Major Tourist Attraction
Every year, the tulip garden attracts thousands of tourists, photographers and nature lovers from across India and around the world. During the bloom season, it becomes one of the most visited tourist spots in Kashmir.
Special Arrangements for Visitors
Authorities have made detailed arrangements to manage the expected large number of visitors. These include:
- Transport facilities
- Parking arrangements
- Security deployment
- Visitor services and other amenities
Earlier, Kashmir News Observer had reported that the garden would open on March 16, along with updates about the preparations, flower varieties and arrangements for this year’s tulip season.
