West Bengal STF Arrests Bangladeshi National in Activist Osman Hadi Murder Case
Kolkata: The West Bengal Police Special Task Force has arrested a Bangladeshi national in connection with the murder of Shariff Osman Hadi, who was killed in Dhaka in December last year.

Arrest After Police Raid
According to officials, the arrest followed the interrogation of two primary suspects in the case, identified as Faisal and Alamgir.
During questioning, the suspects reportedly revealed that they had illegally entered India from Bangladesh through the Meghalaya border with the help of Sangma.
Based on this information, police commandos carried out a raid near the Shantipur Bypass area on Saturday and took Sangma into custody.
Investigators believe Sangma was involved in organising illegal cross-border movement for individuals entering India from Bangladesh.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the full extent of the network involved in the case.
Calcutta University to Hold Convocation After Six-Year Gap
In a separate development, University of Calcutta will hold its convocation ceremony on March 23 after a gap of six years.
According to a notification issued by the university, the convocation will take place at the Centenary Auditorium located on the College Street campus.
The last convocation ceremony was held in 2020 at Nazrul Mancha, a cultural venue in south Kolkata.
Governor to Preside Over Ceremony
The ceremony will be presided over by R N Ravi, who serves as the ex officio Chancellor of the university.
The convocation address will be delivered by Suman Chakraborty.
Degrees for Research Scholars
During the ceremony, around 1,100 research scholars who completed their PhD degrees between 2024 and 2026 will be awarded their doctoral degrees.
University officials said the convocation marks an important academic milestone for scholars and reflects the institution’s commitment to promoting research and higher education.
