Rescue Operation in Harsh Conditions
Rescue teams reached Sinthan Top on Sunday and immediately began helping stranded passengers. The Army provided hot meals, drinking water, and temporary shelter to civilians trapped in the harsh weather.
Repair and recovery teams worked to restore mobility to stranded vehicles, while passengers from vehicles that could not be repaired were safely evacuated.
Medical teams were also deployed to provide first aid, essential medicines, and medical assistance to those who required treatment.
Coordination Between Multiple Agencies
Officials said the operation was completed successfully with all civilians and vehicles safely escorted to safer areas.
The mission involved close coordination between:
- The Indian Army
- Jammu and Kashmir Police
- National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL)
The Army said the rescue operation once again demonstrated its commitment to protecting lives even in extreme weather conditions.
Earlier Rescue Operation in Sikkim
In a similar incident earlier this year, the Indian Army rescued 29 stranded tourists in North Sikkim after severe snowfall blocked mountain roads.
The rescue took place during the night of January 27–28, when strong winds and heavy snowfall left several vehicles stuck on narrow mountain routes.
The stranded group included children and elderly tourists, many of whom began experiencing symptoms of acute mountain sickness due to low oxygen levels and freezing temperatures.
Army medical teams provided oxygen support and treatment, while soldiers arranged warm clothing, sleeping bags, heaters, and hot meals for the stranded tourists.
Once weather conditions improved, the Army transported the tourists safely back to their hotels in **Lachung.
Officials said such rescue missions highlight the Indian Army’s crucial role in disaster response and emergency assistance in difficult mountain regions.
