Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic Kashmir Haseeb Ur Rehman said on Thursday that a special traffic plan had been prepared to ensure the smooth movement of the Secretariat convoy from Srinagar to Jammu.

According to a report published by Kashmir Life, heavy traffic moving from Jammu towards Srinagar will not be allowed during the two-day period. Special arrangements have also been made to facilitate the movement of fruit-laden trucks, which are important for Kashmir’s horticulture sector. Kashmir Life+1

Fruit Trucks to Receive Priority

The traffic authorities have said that fruit-laden vehicles will be given priority wherever possible. If road movement is suspended, fruit trucks will be assembled and allowed to proceed towards Jammu on priority, subject to traffic conditions and official arrangements.

The restrictions are expected to require transporters, commuters and goods-carrier operators to plan their journeys carefully, particularly those travelling along the highway during the Darbar Move period.

Authorities have also advised operators carrying fresh and perishable goods or livestock to plan their loading schedules in view of the announced restrictions. Kashmir Life+1

Commuters Advised to Follow Traffic Advisories

Ur Rehman said traffic had remained smooth under normal weather conditions, but rain or snowfall could affect movement on the highway in the coming days.

Commuters have been advised to follow official traffic advisories issued through print, electronic and social media before starting their journeys. For road-status updates, travellers can contact the Traffic Control Unit at 103.

The traffic department has also highlighted the need to improve Srinagar’s road infrastructure and parking facilities to address increasing congestion. Proposals under consideration include flyovers connecting Batmaloo with Bemina and Dal Gate with Pandach, along with two flyovers on the bypass, the report said.
