PM Modi’s 12th Independence Day Speech Highlights Article 370 Abrogation, Shyama Prasad Mookherjee, and Operation Sindoor Celebrations

PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave his 12th Independence Day address to the nation on Friday, highlighting how the songs and slogans of freedom are echoing across the country, whether it is the deserts, Himalayan peaks, or densely populated cities.

With this being PM Modi’s 12th address on Independence Day, he has given more consecutive addresses than former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, who gave 11 consecutive addresses and 16 in total.

During his address, the Prime Minister hailed the abrogation of Article 370, saying how the mantra of ‘One Nation, One Constitution” was accepted.

“When we brought the mantra of one country, one constitution to life by demolishing the wall of Article 370, when we accepted one nation, one Constitution as the mantra, then we revered Shyama Prasad Mookherjee. There are members of Panchayats from far-flung villages, representatives of Drone Didi, representatives of Lakhpati Didi, people from the world of sports, great people who have given something or the other to the nation and life are present here. In a way, I am seeing a miniature India here in front of my eyes. And today, the Red Fort is also connected with India through technology.” PM Modi said.

PM Modi also mentioned that the 125th jayanti of Shyama Prasad Mookherjee, former union minister, and founder of Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the predecessor of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This celebration honours his ‘lasting impact on India’s political, educational, and cultural fabric.’

“Today we are celebrating the 125th jayanti of Dr Syama Prasad Mookherjee, Dr Syama Prasad Mookherjee is the first person to give his life for India’s Constitution. Sacrifice for the Constitution,” he added.

Praising how every Indian is carrying the tricolor with them today, PM Modi mentioned, “Over 140 crore Indians are carrying the colours of tricolor. Har Ghar Tirangana in every corner of country whether it is the deserts, Himalayan peaks, the edges of the sea, or densely populated cities. Everywhere there is one song, one slogan, the praises of our motherland are heard.”

The success of Operation Sindoor will be celebrated during the I-Day celebrations this year. The view cutter at Gyanpath will have the Operation Sindoor logo, accompanied by floral arrangements themed around the operation.

Approximately 5,000 special guests, from different walks of life, have been invited to witness the celebrations at the Red Fort this year, including the Indian contingent of Special Olympics 2025, the winners of international sports events, the Gold Medalists of Khelo India Para Games, and the best-performing farmers trained & financially assisted under the National Beekeeping and Honey Mission.

To promote patriotic fervour among citizens and to celebrate the victory of Operation Sindoor, a number of band performances will be conducted pan-India for the first time on the evening of Independence Day celebrations. The performances will be conducted by the bands of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Indian Coast Guard, NCC, CRPF, ITBP, CISF, SSB, BSF, IDS, RPF and Assam Rifles at over 140 prominent locations throughout the country.

In August 2019, the Central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, repealed Article 370 of the Indian Constitution, effectively ending the special status given to Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcating the state into two Union Territories – Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. (ANI)

8.Made in India Jet Engines – A National Challenge

PM Modi made a dramatic announcement that just like how we made vaccines during COVID, and UPI for digital payments, we should build our own jet engines too for our jet engines and asked our scientists and youth to take it up as a direct challenge. (ANI)

PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday assured full central assistance to all those affected after a massive cloudburst triggered a flash flood in the Chashoti area of Kishtwar district in Jammu and Kashmir.

The massive cloudburst struck Chishoti village in Kishtwar district today, triggering flash floods and extensive damage, with several people feared missing.

In a post on X, Prime Minister Modi stated that the situation is being closely monitored and rescue operations are underway.

“My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by the cloudburst and flooding in Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir. The situation is being monitored closely. Rescue and relief operations are underway. Every possible assistance will be provided to those in need,” PM Modi said in a post on X.

Earlier in the day, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also spoke to Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and assured full central assistance after a cloudburst triggered a flash flood in Kishtwar district.

Shah said that the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have already been rushed to the site.

“Spoke with the LG and Chief Minister of J&K on the cloudburst in Kishtwar district. The local administration is conducting relief and rescue operations. NDRF teams have promptly been rushed to the site. We are closely monitoring the situation and stand firmly with the people of Jammu and Kashmir through every situation. As per the Deputy Commissioner of Kishtwar, Pankaj Sharma, the rescue operations are still underway.

Meanwhile, two NDRF teams, comprising nearly 180 personnel, have been rushed to the site after the massive cloudburst struck the region.

The NDRF teams, equipped with advanced search-and-rescue gear, were rushed from the force’s Udhampur base following instructions from the Ministry of Home Affairs. They are in close coordination with the local administration and state disaster management teams so that they can evacuate stranded residents, provide medical aid, and ensure the supply of essential relief materials.

In a post on X, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah described the situation in the Chashoti area of Kishtwar as “grim”.

The calamity occurred between 12 noon and 1 pm in the Chasoti area, the last motorable point en route to the revered Machail Mata temple, at a time when a large crowd of pilgrims had assembled for the annual Machail Mata Yatra. The sudden surge of water swept through parts of the village, destroying property and severing road links to remote areas. (ANI)

BJP Links J&K Statehood to Elimination of Terror Networks as Supreme Court Reviews Restoration Plea

BJP

BJP leader Altaf Thakur on Thursday stated that the statehood in Jammu and Kashmir will be restored at an “appropriate time,” when all the terror networks in the state are “destroyed.”

Speaking to ANI, Thakur said, “BJP, the PM and the HM have said that statehood will be restored at the appropriate time… It seems that statehood will be granted once all the terror networks in the state are destroyed. Honourable Supreme Court has also given a time of 8 weeks to the Centre to assess the situation, after which the Centre will submit its answer.”

Reacting to this, J-K Congress President Tariq Hameed Karra stated that the Supreme Court had directed the Centre to conduct elections in the Union Territory and restore statehood, out of which only one direction has been fulfilled.

Karra said, “… When Article 370 was removed from Kashmir, the Supreme Court had said that elections should be held in the state as soon as possible and secondly, Kashmir’s statehood should be restored at the earliest… The Supreme Court follows a process which requires it to seek a response from the government. They are just following this process…”

The Supreme Court of India, on Thursday, heard a plea seeking directions to the Centre for the restoration of statehood to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The court noted that the ground situation in Jammu and Kashmir cannot be ignored while granting statehood and said that the events in Pahalgam cannot be overlooked.

Chief Justice of India BR Gavai, while listening to the plea, said, “You cannot ignore what happened in Pahalgam.”

Meanwhile, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Centre, requested eight weeks to obtain government instructions on the issue, noting that the government had assured statehood after elections, but a peculiar situation exists.

Congress MLA and petitioner for J-K statehood in SC, Irfan Hafeez Lone, commented on the recent development and noted, ” We are neither going to stop, bow down, or get tired. Whenever the BJP is afraid, they send the police forward. This is Gandhi’s country. We will continue our fight.” (ANI)

J&K Faces Stray Dog Crisis with 23 Dogs per 1,000 People, Lags in Control Measures

Dogs Attack in Budgam

J&K has been in a crisis due to an escalating stray dog population, the density of which, as per government data, is 23 dogs per 1000 people. The alarming figure underlines a growing public health and safety concern.

However, the government’s inaction on creating infrastructure and policies for managing the dog population scientifically has continued.Even with dogs becoming the centre of discussion across the country after the recent Supreme Court decision, J&K has almost slept on the issue, Google Trends shows.

An X handle, @India.in.pixels, has graphically portrayed the interest of states and UTs in “stray dogs”. J&K has a score of 24 based on data from August 11-12, 2025.

This has been translated as “not-really-interested”, quite in line with other states and UTs.Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, and Karnataka score better.Delhi has a score of 100, the highest in the country.

The X handle has also shown the state and UT-wise people-to-dog ratio.J&K features at number two, with 22.9 dogs per 1000 people, as per the 2019 data of the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairies.Odisha, with 39.7 dogs per 1000 people, tops the list.

The apathy in J&K towards controlling the dog population and putting in place other measures that could ensure practical and long-term solutions has been chronic. This is despite the frequent reports of dog bites and aggressive encounters with residents across the length and breadth of J&K.

The stray dog population here poses a persistent threat, with no effective measures in place to control it.The Animal Birth Control measures, as recommended by national guidelines, have been few and far between and Srinagar-centric.

For the past 11 months, even Srinagar has been unable to restart its dog sterilisation programme.Dog shelters are nonexistent – the sick, aggressive, and injured animals are left on streets, without containment or care.

J&K has also failed to put in place a Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) that could enforce humane population control strategies and prevent cruelty against dogs and other animals.

The vacuum and the inaction have been fuelling frustration among people.Reports of incidents of attacks are as common as sightings of dogs. The August 11 Supreme Court judgment that ordered the relocation of all stray dogs to shelters within eight weeks in Delhi has sparked both support and criticism.

However, in J&K, it has not moved many heads. The failure to start robust sterilisation programmes allows the dog population to grow unchecked, and attacks are becoming common. At the same time, the lack of shelters exacerbates the plight of injured or diseased dogs, and the threatening dogs remain on the streets.

Animal Birth Control Rules 2023 mandate states and UTs in India to put in place Animal Birth Control measures and return of sterilised and vaccinated dogs back into their territories.
