Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP) President Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari on Thursday said that the time has come for the political leadership of J&K to unite on the issue of statehood and engage honestly with Delhi to restore the rights of the people.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Speaking to the media after a core group meeting at the party headquarters in Srinagar, Bukhari said promises made by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah about dialogue with the youth of Jammu and Kashmir have not been fulfilled yet.
According to KNS, he said people were told there would be outreach, but there has been no engagement. “Is this also a promise?” he asked, adding that Jammu and Kashmir is not Bihar or Delhi, and has its own geographical and political context with borders shared with Pakistan, China, and Afghanistan.
Bukhari criticised the political environment in the region, calling it a “fixed match” where both the opposition and ruling parties play roles without delivering for the people. He accused some parties of deflecting blame and doing little to address unemployment or prevent youth from being jailed. “All communities that have reached this stage are only defaming each other. If they were doing something for the people, our youth would not be in jail.”
Referring to the recent past, he said that after the abrogation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019, it became clear that the people of J&K need to be united. “Elections are fine, we contest each other. But it is the government’s duty to support everyone afterward. Unfortunately, villages that voted against them are being excluded from development.”
He said Apni Party has never sought power for personal gain but to help people recover from the uncertainty post-2019. “If we had been trusted in the past elections, we might have had a chance to change things. But people easily believe lies and ignore the truth.”
On economic issues, Bukhari pointed to the poor condition of roads, the decline of the tourism sector, and the collapse of the horticulture industry. He demanded immediate rent relief and subsidies for farmers and questioned why available development funds remain unspent.
He also criticised the arrest and relocation of Kashmiri youth to jails outside the region, calling it unjust. “Bring them back. At least spare them the suffering of being jailed far from home.”
Bukhari appealed to voters to use the upcoming by-elections as a form of protest. “This election is not about victory or forming a government. It is about registering the truth. Those who change colours between night and morning must be exposed.”
He said Apni Party’s role will continue with patience and that the party will defend the rights of the youth and raise its voice wherever necessary. Bukhari warned that the BJP’s tactics during national elections often come at the cost of Kashmir’s youth. “Do not get emotional. Defeat every attempt to use J&K as an electoral tool”
The search operation to locate and rescue two missing soldiers in Anantnag district of Jammu entered its third day on Thursday, officials here said.
Dense vegetation, rough terrain and inclement weather continued to hinder the efforts, they added. The soldiers, both commandos of an elite Para unit, went missing during a combing operation in the Kokernag area on Tuesday. The operation was launched two days ago in the Ahlan Gadole area, following inputs that a group of terrorists was hiding in the area, officials said.
According to officials, the two soldiers went missing after their communication line went out. Helicopters were pressed into aerial reconnaissance to locate the commandos.Srinagar-based Chinar Corps of the Army said the operational team was caught in a severe snowstorm on Monday night.
“On the intervening night of October 6 and 7, an operational team on the Kishtwar range confronted a severe snowstorm and whiteout conditions in the mountains of South Kashmir. Since then, two soldiers have gone out of communication,” the Chinar Corps said in a post on X on Wednesday.
“Intense search and rescue operations have been launched but hampered due to prevailing adverse weather conditions,” it said.

This was the first occasion that a religious institution offered such guidance for youth empowerment, self-reliance, and employment generation.
Nature and Purpose of the Camp
The aim of this extraordinary event was to encourage the youth of the valley towards self-employment, entrepreneurship, and economic independence. Speakers at the camp emphasised that in today’s era, along with education and worship, economic stability is also an essential part of the Islamic way of life.
Participation of Government and Private Institutions
Representatives from various government and non-government organisations, as well as bank officials, attended the camp. They provided detailed information about government schemes, loan facilities, startup support, and subsidy programmes. Participants were informed about how they could start their own businesses by taking advantage of different schemes offered by the Government of India and the J&K UT administration.
Youth Response and Enthusiasm
Dozens of young people from different parts of the valley took part in the camp. The youth described Agha Syed Muhammad Hadi Al-Mousavi Al-Safavi’s initiative as a spiritual and practical revolution. One participant remarked:
“We have always heard religious teachings from the Imambargah, but today we received guidance for our practical and economic life as well. This is a new light for us.”

He further announced that Anjuman Sharie Shian would continue organising similar economic and social training programmes in different districts of the valley to help the youth become self-sufficient and dignified members of society.
Public and Social Reaction
This historic step has been widely appreciated by social and public circles. Through his foresight and active leadership, Agha Syed Muhammad Hadi Al-Mousavi Al-Safavi has proven that when the message of religion is linked with practical life, the youth can become a source of transformation not only for themselves but for the entire society.
PDP President Mehbooba Mufti today announced that the party will introduce The Jammu and Kashmir Land Rights and Regularisation Bill, 2025 — also known as the Anti-Bulldozer Bill — in the forthcoming session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
The proposed legislation aims to regularise land holdings of individuals, families, and institutions who have been in continuous possession of land for over 30 years, thereby securing ownership rights, preventing arbitrary evictions, and ensuring social and economic stability across Jammu and Kashmir.
Highlighting the ongoing land and lease crisis in Gulmarg and other parts of Kashmir, Mufti said that the Land Grant Rules, 2022 have ended the renewal of old leases, putting dozens of hotels operating on expired leases at risk of eviction or government takeover through auction.
Nearly 60 hotels in Gulmarg, including heritage establishments such as Nedous and Highlands Park, have received takeover notices from the Gulmarg Development Authority (GDA). Hoteliers who have invested heavily now face severe financial distress, legal uncertainty, and threats to livelihoods.
She further said that the absence of a clear government policy on lease renewal and land regularisation has created deep uncertainty, hurting tourism, local employment, and investor confidence in Kashmir’s hospitality sector.
Despite repeated promises by the Chief Minister to protect the land rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, no concrete policy or legal stand has yet been taken to safeguard these rights in courts, she added.
Mufti confirmed that PDP MLAs have already submitted the Bill for inclusion in the upcoming Assembly session, reaffirming the Party’s commitment to protecting people’s land rights and ensuring legal security for all long-standing occupants.

A large group of aspirants for the Fire and Emergency Services recruitment staged a protest in Srinagar on Friday, alleging irregularities in the selection process and demanding the release of a long-awaited inquiry report.
Gathering at the Press Colony in the heart of the city, the protesters — many of whom had traveled from different districts across Kashmir — raised slogans demanding justice and transparency.
They claimed that despite assurances from the government, the findings of a probe into alleged recruitment malpractice have not been made public.
“We were told that a committee had been formed years ago to look into the irregularities. The report was supposed to be released within a month, but it’s been over seven months now and there is complete silence,” said one of the protesting candidates.
The aspirants alleged that undeserving candidates with political connections or influence were unfairly selected, sidelining many meritorious applicants. “This is not just about jobs — it’s about fairness. We prepared for years, cleared all stages, and yet, we were ignored,” another protester remarked.
The protesters urged the Lieutenant Governor’s administration to act swiftly and restore their faith in the recruitment system. “We only want the truth. If the government believes in transparency, then make the report public and ensure justice,” one aspirant said.(KNS).
