Farooq Abdullah Urges NC Workers to Prepare for Upcoming Panchayat Elections

National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah on Monday called upon party workers to start preparing for the upcoming panchayat elections, emphasizing the need for unity to “rebuild” Jammu and Kashmir.

The development comes after the Jammu and Kashmir Election Commission on Monday concluded annual revision of panchayat electoral rolls and said more than 70 lakh voters, including over 34 lakh women, are eligible to vote in the upcoming panchayat elections.

“Prepare for elections. Whenever elections are held, be ready from today,” he said, addressing a gathering of party workers here.

He urged NC workers to choose candidates who genuinely want to serve the people and emphasised the need for honesty and unity to “rebuild” Jammu and Kashmir. “Together, we can overcome these challenges and bring our region back on the path of progress,” he said.

Arms and Ammunition Recovered from Government School in Larmooh Awantipora, Pulwama

Security forces have recovered arms and ammunition from a government school in the Awantipora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, officials said.

An official told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that in a joint operation of police, 42 RR & 130 Battalion of CRPF recovered arms and ammunition from government primary school Larmooh.

He said that the arms and ammunition includes a grenade, UBGL, electric detonator, non-electric detonator, 10 bullets, a pistol magazine.“Further investigation in this regard is going on,” the official said—(KNO)

Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) Project Completion: Inauguration Planned for February 2025

With the completion of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, its inauguration is scheduled to be held in the first week of February.

In an official communiqué, in view of the inauguration of USBRL section in the first week of February, Northern Railways North circle has asked Northern Railways Firozpur division “to arrange to move both USBRL Vande Bharat Rakes from SSB to BDGM in the morning of January 24 and January 25, 2025 for trial between SVDK and BDGM.”

The Union Railway Ministry had already announced the completion of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project.

Earlier this month, Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), north circle, Dinesh Chand Deshwal had conducted a detailed inspection of Katra-Reasi-Sangaldan-Khari-Banihal section of USBRL project and had submitted a detailed inspection report to concerned Railway Ministry with the recommendations for opening new Broad Gauge (BG), Rail-Link project in Firozpur Division of Northern Railway.

Northern Railways, Firozpur division has conducted several train trial runs from Katra railway station to Reasi-Sangaldan-Banihal and Budgam so far on this newly constructed track of the vital USBRL project.

Badhaal Under Lockdown: Stringent Restrictions Imposed in Badhaal Village as Health Crisis Continues

To contain the spread of a mysterious illness among villagers, the authorities have imposed restrictions in Badhaal village of Rajouri district, by declaring the entire area as a containment zone.

These restrictions have been imposed by district administration under BNSS 163 (earlier 144 CrPC).Officials said, “These restrictions have been broadly divided into three types that include establishment of containment zones; prohibition on gathering and scaling up the water and food being served to affected families and their contacts.”

The entire village has been in the news since last one and half month after 17 mysterious deaths while health experts and other agencies have not been able to find the cause behind these deaths.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also visited the area on Tuesday and reviewed the progress of investigation to find the reason behind these deaths.On Wednesday, district administration Rajouri ordered restrictions in this village under BNSS 163 declaring the entire area as a containment zone.

The village has been sub divided into three containment zones that include – Containment zone I where families, which have lost loved ones to the mysterious illness, are located while Containment zone II is for immediate contacts of the victim families.

In Containment zone 3 falls the general village area.Along with it, strong restrictions have been placed on holding any gathering in the area.“All the public and private gatherings are hereby prohibited within the jurisdiction of these contained zones,” officials said, while quoting the order notifying restrictions.

The administration has also decided to increase surveillance of all kinds of eatables being used by the affected families as well as other villagers in the area.The team of officials deputed earlier has been asked to scale up surveillance.

To enforce the restrictions, additional manpower from police and paramilitary forces has been deployed throughout the village while the health staff has also been stationed there to monitor the situation.Outside movement has been barred, effectively putting the village under lockdown, officials stated.

Rajouri Admin Implements Preventive Measures in Badhaal Village Amid Health Crisis

To cope with the health crisis in Badhaal village, which led to 17 deaths in the area, the District Administration Rajouri has introduced an array of preventive measures to prevent the situation from escalating.

The authorities have replaced existing supplies with safe food and water to the households in the affected localities.

Designated officers are tasked with maintaining a log book with three daily entries documenting food distribution and consumption to safeguard public health and contain the spread of the situation.

The area has already been declared as the containment zone with implementation of comprehensive surveillance measures and imposition of Section 163 of the BNSS for immediate compliance.

To contain the situation and prevent further escalation, the area has been divided into 3 containment zones which include the locality of families which suffered deaths. The affected houses have been sealed and entry is strictly prohibited without permission from the designated officer.

The other two Zones are families identified as having contacts with the affected families.

Further, on the direction of Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Sharma ordered immediate relocation of close contacts and high-risk contacts of affected families from Badhaal Village to Nursing College and Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri.

The decision forms part of a proactive approach to ensure the safety and well-being of the community amid prevailing concerns.

The Animal and sheep Husbandry Department has been tasked with deploying officials to manage and take care of domestic animals left behind in the village, ensuring their safety and proper upkeep.

The district administration is working round the clock to provide all necessary assistance and appeals to the public to cooperate fully with the containment measures.

Six Arrested for Defrauding Job Seekers in J&K Bank and Territorial Army Scam

The Crime Branch (CB) has booked six individuals, including an employee of J&K Bank, for defrauding 15 candidates out of Rs. 1.34 crore under the pretext of offering jobs in the Territorial Army and J&K Bank.

According to the statement issued here, Two written complaints with same contents were received in Crime Branch wherein the complainants namely Jugal Kumar S/o Sain Dass R/o Village Shahzad Pur Ramgarh Samba and Gopal Chand S/o Amir Chand R/o Village Rajpur Jatan Tehsil ramgarh District Samba and others alleged that (1) Tarsem Singh S/o Balbir Singh & Balbir Singh S/o Khazan Singh both residents of Dhyansar W.No. 02, Bari brahmana, District Samba fraudulently told the complainants about the vacancies in sports category in Territorial Army and also demanded money from them and the complainants transferred amount through cheques, online and cash modes in their favour as per their demand. Thereafter, the above-mentioned persons prepared fake call letters for the purported to be related with the joining of the complainants in Territorial Army and also put the fake signatures and stamps of senior officers.

When the complainants went for their joining as per the joining letters, they were not allowed to join and then they realised that fraud was committed with them. The original qualification certificates as well as the other documents are still lying in the possession of accused persons and they refused to return the same. The accused have received Rs. 09 lakhs per head from candidates by fraudulent means.

that Sunny Sharma S/o Om Parkash R/o village Laroka Tehsil Qila Darhal at present Ward No.4 Near Tehsil Office Nowshera, Rajouri and Bisharat Hussain Mirza S/o Faquir Mohd. R/o Jamola, Manjakot, Rajouri came to Nowshera and met the complainant accompanied by his grandmother Smt. Shah Begum. Both accused persons brought the complainant and his grandmother under their influence and assured that they
would provide permanent appointment of the complainant in the J&K Bank as Class IV employee for which the complainant would have to pay Rs. 8.00 Lakhs.

The accused persons further assured that they would receive the said money from complainant only after they would handover the appointment order to the complainant. The complainant and his grandmother were convinced by the accused persons.

The accused persons after sometime introduced the complainant and his grandmother to two other persons namely Majid Ali R/o Srinagar (employee in J&K Bank Ltd. Hari Singh High Street Branch Batmaloo, Kashmir)and Imran Tantray R/o Srinagar who asked the complainant to come at Srinagar for his appointment. Thereaftercomplainant alongwith his grandmother went to Srinagar where the complainant met with both accused persons Majid Ali and Imran Tantray.

During the stay complainant and his grandmother in Srinagar, the accused persons compelled the complainant to make payment as agreed between them in the accounts provided accused persons. The complainant made bank transactions of the amount of Rs. 7.90 Lacs in the accounts provided by the accused persons. On receipt of the said whole payment, accused Majid Ali called the complainant and handed over the copy of appointment order for the post of Banking Attendant at The Jammu and Kashmir Bank limited, Business Unit: Dalhori Rajouri to the complainant.

Thereafter, the complainant went to J&K Bank Ltd. Branch Dalhori, Rajouri for his joining where the complainant informed by the said Bank Branch Head that the said appointment order is fake and frivolous and no such appointment order was issued.

Senior Superintendent of Police Crime Jammu, Benam Tosh confirmed that two
cases viz. case FIR No. 07/2025 and FIR No. 08/2025 have been registered at P/S EOW, Crime Branch Jammu and investigation is underway.
