Jeet Adani and Diva Jaimin Shah Set to Tie the Knot in a Low-Key, Traditional Ceremony in Ahmedabad

Jeet Adani

Jeet Adani, the younger son of industrialist Gautam Adani, is getting married to Diva Jaimin Shah in a simple and traditional ceremony today in Ahmedabad. The couple, who got engaged in March 2023, will celebrate their big day in a quiet and private way, focusing on family and cultural traditions.

The wedding celebrations began on February 5 with pre-wedding events, and today, the main ceremony will take place at Shantigram, the Adani family’s township in Ahmedabad. The wedding will follow Jain and Gujarati customs, with rituals starting at 2 pm.

Gautam Adani, the well-known chairman of the Adani Group, has made it clear that the wedding will not be a grand, celebrity-filled event. He has said that the ceremony will be simple, focusing on family, tradition, and the values he and his family hold dear. This message came after rumours about global celebrities attending the wedding, including pop star Taylor Swift. Adani emphasized that the wedding would remain a low-key family affair, in line with his upbringing as a “common person from the working class.”

The couple has also decided to use their wedding to highlight important social causes. They are partnering with the NGO Family of Disabled (FOD) to support people with disabilities. Fashion designer Manish Malhotra has designed special shawls for the couple, with the help of the NGO. The couple has also pledged to donate Rs 10 lakh each for the wedding of 500 women with disabilities every year. This initiative aims to bring attention to the needs of the disabled community and make a positive social impact.

Jeet Adani, a director at Adani Airports, is known for his efforts to support social causes, especially those related to disabilities. He met 21 newlywed women with disabilities and their husbands earlier this week to launch the new initiative. Jeet’s commitment to helping others is also inspired by his mother, Priti Adani, who has turned the Adani Foundation into an important force for change in India.

Diva Jaimin Shah, who comes from a family involved in the diamond business, is the daughter of Jaimin Shah, a diamond merchant. Her family runs a well-known diamond manufacturing company in Mumbai and Surat.

This wedding, while simple, reflects the couple’s commitment to both tradition and making a meaningful difference in the world. As Jeet and Diva begin this new chapter in their lives, they are not only celebrating their love but also supporting causes close to their hearts.

Amazon’s Q4 Win Overshadowed by Disastrous Q1 Outlook—Stock Takes a Major Hit!

Amazon

Amazon (AMZN) released its fourth-quarter earnings after the bell on Thursday, posting impressive results that exceeded analysts’ expectations for both revenue and earnings. However, the tech giant’s first-quarter revenue guidance fell short of Wall Street projections, sending its stock down by more than 3% in after-hours trading.

Strong Q4 Results: Earnings and Revenue Beat Expectations

For the fourth quarter of 2024, Amazon reported earnings per share (EPS) of $1.86, surpassing the consensus estimate of $1.50. The company also posted quarterly revenue of $187.7 billion, exceeding analyst expectations of $187.3 billion. This marks a significant improvement from the same period last year, where Amazon reported an EPS of $1.00 on revenue of $169.9 billion.

The positive earnings report was driven by Amazon’s robust performance in key areas, including its cloud division, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and strong growth in retail. AWS generated $28.7 billion in revenue for Q4, though it slightly missed the consensus estimate of $28.8 billion. Despite this minor shortfall, AWS continues to be a major revenue contributor, with its growth providing a cushion for Amazon’s overall performance.

Q1 Outlook Disappoints: Revenue Guidance Falls Short

While Amazon’s Q4 results were solid, its outlook for the first quarter of 2025 cast a shadow over the report. The company’s guidance for Q1 revenue ranged between $151 billion and $155 billion, well below the $158 billion expected by analysts. This shortfall came despite Amazon citing several factors that could affect the quarter’s performance, including an unusually large foreign exchange impact of approximately $2.1 billion.

Amazon also noted that the leap year in 2024 would add around $1.5 billion to net sales, which could provide some offset. However, investors were clearly disappointed by the weaker-than-expected revenue outlook, particularly as it came after strong earnings for Q4. As a result, Amazon’s stock fell by more than 3% in after-hours trading following the release of the earnings report.

AI Investments and Capital Expenditures on the Rise

Looking ahead to 2025, Amazon’s CEO Andy Jassy addressed the company’s future plans during the earnings call. Amazon has committed to significantly increasing its capital expenditures, projecting around $105 billion in spending for the year, with the majority allocated toward artificial intelligence (AI) and data center investments. This marks a substantial jump from the $75 billion in capital expenditures that Amazon spent in 2024.

The company is positioning itself as a leader in the AI space, especially in cloud services. With rivals like Microsoft (MSFT) and Google (GOOG, GOOGL) also making big bets on AI, Amazon is making aggressive moves to bolster its cloud infrastructure to meet growing demand.

Challenges from Competitors and Market Conditions

Amazon’s Q4 results come on the heels of disappointing earnings reports from its cloud rivals. Microsoft missed its expectations for cloud sales, reporting revenue of $40 billion compared to the $41.1 billion analysts had predicted. Similarly, Google’s cloud division also fell short, reporting $11.9 billion in revenue against the $12.1 billion that was anticipated.

Both Microsoft and Google attributed their cloud misses to the challenges of meeting the growing demand for AI services. Amazon, being the world’s largest cloud provider, faces similar pressures. As a result, the company is focusing heavily on expanding its AI and cloud capabilities, which is driving up its capital expenditures.

In addition, Amazon is now contending with competition from new AI players. Notably, China-based AI startup DeepSeek has raised concerns in the market, with its new AI models threatening to rival those of larger, more established tech companies. Despite these challenges, Amazon has already integrated DeepSeek’s AI models into its own AI services platform, enabling users to access and utilize the software as part of its cloud offerings.

Conclusion: A Mixed Outlook for Amazon

Amazon’s fourth-quarter earnings report was a mixed bag. While the company posted strong earnings that beat Wall Street’s expectations, its weak revenue guidance for the first quarter raised concerns about future growth. The anticipated $105 billion in capital expenditures reflects Amazon’s commitment to investing in AI and cloud technologies, but this heavy spending could weigh on short-term profits.

Investors will likely continue to monitor Amazon’s progress as it navigates the challenges posed by increased competition, foreign exchange headwinds, and heavy investments in emerging technologies. As the company faces these hurdles, Amazon’s ability to deliver on its ambitious plans for AI infrastructure and capitalize on the growing demand for cloud services will be key to its future performance.

Tariq Hameed Karra Criticizes India’s Govt Over Killings in Kathua, North Kashmir and Says Rising violence in J&K ‘exposes GoI’s tall claims’ of normalcy

Tariq Hameed Karra

Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president Tariq Hameed Karra on Thursday strongly criticised the Government of India over killings in Kathua and north Kashmir, calling them a “complete failure of the security apparatus”.

Reacting to the incidents, Karra said that both civilian killings and attacks on security forces are on the rise, exposing the government’s “tall claims” of normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir. “On one hand, they claim peace has been restored, and on the other, such brutal incidents keep happening. This shows their failure in handling the situation,” he said.

The JKPCC chief held the Central government responsible for the deteriorating security situation in J&K, saying their policies towards Jammu and Kashmir need immediate reconsideration. “They cannot go on like this. If they are true to their commitment to restoring normalcy, they must introspect and revisit their approach,” he added.

Karra also slammed the dual control system in Jammu and Kashmir, saying it is adding to the chaos.

Reacting to a statement by J&K Chief Minister’s advisor that the elected government in J&K was neither involved in decision-making nor in implementing security measures and that the chief minister was not even consulted in key security meetings, Karra remarked, “This is an insult to the electorate of Jammu and Kashmir and a blatant disregard for democratic norms.”

He questioned why the Lieutenant Governor (LG) was present at the meeting while the elected Chief Minister was sidelined. “This clearly shows there are two governments running J&K. The fate of an elected government is being decided by a few selected individuals, which is unacceptable,” he said.

Trump to Sign Executive Order Sanctioning International Criminal Court (ICC) Over Investigations into U.S. and Israel

International Criminal Court

US President Donald Trump will sign an executive order on Thursday to sanction the International Criminal Court for targeting the United States and its allies, such as Israel, a White House official said.

The order will place financial and visa sanctions on individuals and their family members who assist in ICC investigations of US citizens or US allies, said the official.

The move by Trump comes after US Senate Democrats last week blocked a Republican-led effort to sanction the ICC in protest at its arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former defense minister. Netanyahu is currently visiting Washington.

The ICC did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The court has taken measures to shield staff from possible US sanctions, paying salaries three months in advance, as it braced for financial restrictions that could cripple the war crimes tribunal, sources told Reuters last month.

In December, the court’s president, judge Tomoko Akane, warned that sanctions would “rapidly undermine the Court’s operations in all situations and cases, and jeopardise its very existence.”

This is the second time the court has faced US retaliation as a result of its work. During the first Trump administration in 2020, Washington imposed sanctions on then-prosecutor Fatou Bensouda and one of her top aides over the ICC’s investigation into alleged war crimes by American troops in Afghanistan.

The 125-member ICC is a permanent court that can prosecute individuals for war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide and the crime of aggression against the territory of member states or by their nationals. The United States, China, Russia and Israel are not members.
