4 drug peddlers were arrested in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district on Tuesday and heroin was recovered from them, officials said.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team intercepted a vehicle at Sula Naka area during its journey from Katra, they said.The officials said that upon thorough checking of the vehicle, heroin was recovered from the occupants — Anil Sharma, Shubham Singh, Vivek Raina and Kamal Kumar.

All the accused are residents of Reasi, they said, adding that a case has been registered against them.Further investigation is underway to unearth the forward and backward linkages of the arrested individuals, the officials said.

Shopian Police have registered a formal First Information Report (FIR) in connection with a large-scale bank fraud at the Jammu and Kashmir Bank branch in Turkawangam, Shopian district, with multiple arrests anticipated in the coming days.

The case, registered under FIR number 104/2024 at the Zainapora Police Station, emerges from a series of fraudulent withdrawals that first came to light in August, causing widespread concern among local bank customers.

The initial instance of fraud was discovered in the account of the  Mohammad Yousuf Shah, where the entire balance was withdrawn a day after his death on January 14, 2019.

His daughter Zarifa alleged that approximately Rs. 5 lakh was embezzled and transferred to multiple bank accounts associated with Mudasir Hassan Shah, a local resident.

Further investigations revealed a more extensive pattern of financial irregularities. An elderly citizen, Abdul Ghani Lone, reported the unauthorized withdrawal of Rs.1.77 lakh from his account.

Subsequently, customers from surrounding villages including Nuley Poshawari, MalDher, Sugan, and Tarkawangam discovered their accounts had been systematically emptied.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Initial bank actions included recovering Rs. 3.5 million from various accounts and immediately attaching an employee suspected of involvement in the fraudulent activities.

Local legal luminaries have been instrumental in bringing the matter to light. Advocate Mohsin Nabi filed a complaint under Section 316(5) of the Indian Penal Code, while social activist and lawyer Dr. Bari obtained detailed statements from affected customers.

A senior police officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the investigation is progressing comprehensively, with multiple arrests expected in the near future.

The incident has sparked outrage among local residents, who are demanding swift and stringent action against those responsible for the widespread financial fraud.(KNS).

Police have arrested two drug peddlers including a woman and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

A Police spokesperson said that party of PS Bijbehara at a checkpoint established within their jurisdiction, arrested a woman drug peddler identified as Gulshana wife of Mohammad Yousuf Ganie resident of Takiya Maksood Shah, Bijbehara. The arrest followed the recovery of 8 Kgs of a Cannabis Powder from her possession.

Meanwhile in Srinagar, a Police party during patrolling in Rakh Arth Axis, arrested a drug peddler identified as Sahil Hameed son of Abdul Hamid Parray resident of Ramber Garh Shalteng Srinagar. During search, 60 grams of Charas was recovered from his possession. In this regard, a case vide FIR No.73/2024 has been registered and investigation has been initiated.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.

Police in Srinagar have arrested two drug peddlers and recovered contraband substances & cash from their possession.

A Police spokesperson said, “At a checkpoint established on NHW opposite Tehsil Office Central Shalteng by Srinagar Police, a truck bearing registration number JK18-2323 was intercepted with two persons on board. They have been identified as Tajamul Rafiq son of Mohd Rafiq resident of Kandi Tangdhar and Manzoor Ahmad Khan son of Jalal ud din Khan resident of Hayhama Kupwara A/P Palpora Noorbagh, Srinagar.”

“During search, 14 grams of Brown Sugar and cash amount of ₹34,000 (believed to be proceeds of narcotics) have been recovered from their possession. They have been arrested and the vechicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized”, he said.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No.72/2024 has been registered and investigation has been initiated.

Continuing its action against drug peddlers in Jammu and Kashmir, Baramulla Police attached multiple properties (double storied residential houses at Chowadhi Jammu and Trikanjan Boniyar, Tipper, Trailer, and a four-wheeler) worth Rs 1.72 Crore, said police in a statement on Saturday.

The properties belong to a notorious drug peddler Rafiq Ahmad Khan @ Rafi Rafa son of Gh Hassan resident of Trikanjan Boniyar, district Baramulla.
The action was taken under sections 68-E read with 68-F (1) of NDPS Act of 1985 and is linked with case FIR nr 134/2016 u/s 8/21, 29 NDPS Act of PS Boniyar.

The properties were identified as illegally acquired during the course of an investigation conducted by police. The properties were acquired from the illicit trafficking of narcotics and psychotropic substances by the drug peddler.

Earlier on November 18 properties worth Rs 1.5 crore were attached by the Anantnag Police under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act as part of their ongoing campaign against drug peddlers in Jammu and Kashmir, said a police statement on Monday.

The Mattan Police Station attached a single-story residential house valued at Rs 80 lakh, belonging to Afroz Ahmad Bhat, son of Gh Hassan, of Azam Khan Mohalla, Khreibal.

Bhat, a habitual offender, has been involved in multiple NDPS cases for his role in the illegal narcotics trade, the police stated.

Srigufwara police station also attached three commercial shops valued at Rs 70 lakh, owned by Peer Asif Ahmad Shah and Peer Towseef Ahmad Shah, sons of Abdul Rashid Shah, residents of K Kalan, Srigufwara.

Both brothers are under investigation for their involvement in several NDPS cases.

The use of provisions under the NDPS Act to seize properties linked to criminal activities serves as a strong deterrent to those engaged in the illegal drug trade, police said. (ANI)

Continuing its unwavering efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society. Police in Kulgam arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband substance from his possession.

A police spokesperson said that a specific checkpoint was established at Batingo Kund by police party of Police Station Kund and during checking one person moving in suspicious condition was intercepted. During search, 36 grams of Brown Sugar like substance was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Mohd Maqbool Lone, son of Sanaullah Lone, resident of Waripora A/P Ruzloo.  He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody, he said.

A case vide FIR No. 31/2024 under section of law has been registered in Police Station Kund and investigation has been initiated, the spokesperson said.

The police requested community members to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. The persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace, he added.

To curb the criminal activities in district Samba, J-K police on Thursday detained and lodged in jail a notorious criminal under the Jammu & Kashmir Public Safety Act (PSA).

According to the police, the accused identified as Alam Din alias “Allu” was involved in multiple criminal cases registered against him at Police Station Samba and Majalta of district Udhampur.

“His criminal activities have posed a serious threat to public peace and tranquillity,” the police said.
The Samba police also mentioned that following his repeated engagement in criminal activities, a detention order was issued by the District Magistrate Samba based on detailed dossiers prepared by SSP Samba.

“Police team of Police Post Rakh Amb Talli headed by Incharge PP Rakh Amb Talli under Police Station Samba successfully executed the warrant, leading to the incarceration of the said accused in District Jail Kathua,” the police said.

“This successful operation shows the commitment of Samba Police towards ensuring the safety of the public and its resolve to counter criminal activities,” they added.

Earlier on November 20, in a joint operation, the Handwara police and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) apprehended Muneer Ahmad Banday, a proclaimed offender with a bounty of Rs 5 lakh, from Handwara in Jammu and Kashmir.

According to an official release from the police, the accused Muneer Ahmad Banday, a resident of Banday Mohalla in Handwara was carrying a cash reward of Rs 5 lakh.

Police said that the accused had been evading arrest since June 2020 in connection with Case No. 03/2020 under sections 8/21 NDPS 17, 18, 20 UAPA, 120-B, 121 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

As per the release, Muneer Ahmad Banday was involved in a multi-million drug smuggling case, which had significant implications for funding illegal activities. (ANI)

Police Solve Dr Azhar Hassan Janwari Case He Was Hited By a Motorcycle

Sopore police Thursday said, they solved a hit and run case of a doctor who was killed in a road accident two weeks ago.

Police official said, on 5th of November 2024 Police Station Sopore received report about an unknown motorcyclist hitting and injuring one pedestrian Dr.Azhar Hassan Janwari, from Upper Ashpeer, Sopore during evening hours. An FIR (No. 233/2024) was registered in this matter, and the investigation began. The victim was initially treated at SDH Sopore and later referred to SKIMS Soura for advanced treatment where he succumbed to his injuries on 18th of November 2024, official said.

He said, after extensive efforts, including technical means, one Nadeem Hameed Badam also from Upper Ashpeer, Sopore was identified as the accused.

He has confessed to hitting the victim while riding his scooty bearing no. (JK05H-4292) recklessly. Fearing consequences, he fled the scene and did not report the incident to authorities, an official said.

The accused has been arrested, and the vehicle has been seized. Section 106(2) was added to the victim’s death and further investigation is on, official said.

In a joint operation, the Handwara police and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) apprehended Muneer Ahmad Banday, a proclaimed offender with a bounty of Rs 5 lakh, from Handwara in Jammu and Kashmir.

According to an official release from the police, the accused Muneer Ahmad Banday, a resident of Banday Mohalla in Handwara was carrying a cash reward of Rs 5 lakh.Police said that the accused had been evading arrest since June 2020 in connection with Case No. 03/2020 under sections 8/21 NDPS 17, 18, 20 UAPA, 120-B, 121 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

“Muneer Ahmed Banday’s arrest marks a major success for Police Handwara and other security agencies in the fight against organized crime and narco-terrorism. The operation underscores the commitment of the Police and NIA to bring offenders to justice and dismantle networks involved in such unlawful activities,” said the release.

Further investigation into the case is ongoing.

Earlier, a joint operation was launched by the Indian Army and Jammu Kashmir Police in the general area, Margi, Lolab, Kupwara. Contact was established and a firefight ensued.

In another development, security forces eliminated one terrorist in Operation Kaitsan in Bandipora.
On November 3, twelve people, including one woman, were injured in a grenade attack at the Tourist Reception Centre (TRC) and weekly market in Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar on Sunday, police said.

On November 2, two terrorists were killed by security forces during an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district. The encounter broke out after security forces initiated an anti-terrorist operation in the Halkan Gali area.

On October 29, the security forces neutralised three terrorists in a high-stakes encounter in Akhnoor, Jammu and Kashmir, following an attack on an Army convoy.

On October 20, a doctor and six construction workers were killed when terrorists attacked a tunnel construction site on the Srinagar-Leh national highway in the Ganderbal district.
