Lolab: Dar-ul-Uloom Baba Nazuk, a respected Islamic institution, celebrated its annual day, Salana Jalsa, with thousands of attendees. Moulana Syed Ahmad Khazir Shah Masoodi Kashmiri, grandson of the renowned Alama Anwar Shah Kashmiri, delivered a profound speech, stressing the significance of Quranic knowledge and cautioning the youth against the dangers of drug addiction. “Drug abuse is condemned in Islam; it is not the path our religion guides us towards,” he firmly stated.
Other notable speakers at the event included Moulana Syed Mohammad Iqbal Andrabi, Moulana Mufti Ghulam Mohiuddin, and Mufti Nazir Ahmad Qasimi. During the ceremony, six students were honoured for memorising the Quran and received the traditional Dastarbandi from Moulana Syed Ahmad Khazir Shah Masoodi Kashmiri. At least 45 Kashmiri B.Sc. nursing students from Mewar University, Chittorgarh area of Rajasthan, staged a protest after learning that the university is not registered to offer the course.The students said they had raised the issue with university authorities multiple times, but it remains unresolved.
“We are B.Sc. nursing students under the Jammu and Kashmir Special Scholarship Scheme (JKSSS) studying here. The university is running the B.Sc. nursing course without the necessary approval. Our demand is to transfer us to another approved college or university, maintaining the same year and semester. They have also threatened that if we raise our voices, they will deregister us,” the students said.
“Either they should resolve our issue or clearly tell us what steps they plan to take. We are fed up now. Our future is at stake. What will we tell our families, who are investing in our education here?” said one of the protesting students.
“After raising the issue and starting our protest within the university premises, we were threatened with imprisonment,” said another student.The students also warned that they will go on an indefinite strike if the university authorities do not resolve their issue in the coming days.
They also sought the intervention of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and the newly appointed Education Minister of J&K to resolve their issue at the earliest, to prevent further suffering.

Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, IAS, Director Sericulture J&K, today conducted an extensive inspection of the ongoing works in Jammu Division. Mr.Bhat also held a detailed review meeting at the Directorate Office, Jammu to assess the progress of various developmental initiatives in the Jammu Division.
During the review, Mr.Bhat stressed the importance of efficiently utilizing funds under key schemes such as the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP), CAPEX, and Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS), including the “SILK SAMAGRA” initiative. He urged the officers to ensure the swift execution of projects and the achievement of targets within the shortest possible time.
A key focus of the meeting was on expanding the area under mulberry plantation and boosting seed production at the departmental level. Mr.Bhat emphasized the need for concerted efforts to support farmers in rearing silkworms, enhancing the quality of cocoon production, and ultimately increasing farmers’ income.

National Conference Senior Leader Ab Rahim Rather is likely to be appointed as the Speaker of the J&K Assembly, according to sources close to the ruling alliance.
Sources told Kashmir News Service (KNS), that his name has come up repeatedly during internal discussions, and he appears to be the frontrunner for the position, given his experience.
Sources also said that the Congress, which had earlier said it would remain out of the ministry, took that stance after the NC did not fully accommodate their demands. However these demands are now under reconsideration. “The Congress wants their fair share, and they haven’t backed down from pushing for two ministers and the deputy speaker post,” Sources said.
M Y Tarigami, an ally in the NC-led coalition, will not be part of the new Cabinet. “Tarigami has chosen to stay out of the ministry,” sources said, adding that his focus may remain on policy and strategic guidance rather than direct ministerial involvement.
They also said that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is facing a difficult task in filling the final three vacant ministerial posts because of many capable candidates within the NC and the alliance. “The pool of talent is extensive, and Omar has to strike a balance between rewarding loyalty, seniority, and regional representation,” they added.(KNS)
People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader and legislator from Pulwama, Waheed Para has criticised Omar Abdullah’s recent resolution on statehood, calling it a ratification of the August 5, 2019 decision that revoked Jammu and Kashmir’s special status.
Para stated that the resolution, which focuses solely on the demand for statehood, represents a significant shift from earlier positions, particularly the promise to restore Article 370.

President of Awami Ittehad Party and MP, Sheikh Abdul Rashid alias Engineer Rashid on Wednesday alleged that Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah colluded with Prime Minister Modi on the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.
Rashid asserted that PM Modi consulted with the Abdullahs before making the move. He also alleged that the BJP helped the National Conference (NC) regain power in the valley.
Engineer Rashid said, “Omar Abdullah speaks of statehood, Article 370 and 35A… Omar Abdullah is running away from 370. When PM Modi abrogated Article 370, he met Farooq Abdullah 3 days before that… After the meeting, Farooq Abdullah said that nothing was going to be abrogated but it was abrogated and Farooq and Omar Abdullah were kept in a guest house. It seems as if Farooq and Omar Abdullah were on board.
“PM Modi removed Article 370 after consulting with them. All of it was a match-fixing. There is no doubt that the BJP helped NC in coming to power,” Rashid added.
On August 2019, the Central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, abrogated Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.
In 2005, Engineer Rashid was arrested by the Special Operations Group (SOG) in Srinagar for allegedly supporting militants and was held for three months and 17 days. He faced charges of anti-national activities and was incarcerated in Cargo, Humhama, and Raj Bagh prisons. However, the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Srinagar later dropped all charges against him on humanitarian grounds.
In August 2019, Rashid was again arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). During his incarceration, he filed his nomination for the 2024 parliamentary elections from jail and won by a margin of 204,000 votes, defeating former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Senior Congress leader Ghulam Ahmed Mir today reiterated the party’s principal stand on the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, stating that the Congress will not take the oath of office until statehood is fully restored.
Mir emphasized that this position is non-negotiable and reflects the party’s commitment to the rights of the people of J&K, he spoke exclusively to KNS.Addressing rumors suggesting discord between the Congress and its alliance partner, the National Conference (NC), over ministerial portfolios, Mir firmly dispelled such claims. “We did not contest this election for power but to restore the rights of the people. The question of ministerial posts is irrelevant at this point. Our priority remains the restoration of statehood,” Mir stated.
He called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to honor the mandate given by the people, which Mir believes clearly indicates a desire for the return of statehood. “The people have spoken, and the Prime Minister should respect their will,” he added.
Mir also clarified that despite not taking the oath immediately, the Congress remains an integral part of the government. “We are fully aligned with our allies in the India bloc, including leaders such as Mallikarjun Kharge and Priyanka Gandhi, and we are committed to working together to achieve our collective goals,” he said. National Conference leader Omar Abdullah is set to take oath as the new chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir today.
Earlier, the president’s rule in Jammu and Kashmir was revoked, clearing the way for the formation of a new government following the recently concluded Assembly polls in the Union Territory.
The Ministry of Home Affairs issued a gazette notification in this regard on Sunday.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 73 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019 (34 of 2019) read with articles 239 and 239A of the Constitution of India, the Order dated the 31st October 2019 in relation to the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir shall stand revoked immediately before the appointment of the Chief Minister under section 54 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019,” read the official order.
This will be the first elected government in Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019 and the reorganisation of the former state into two Union Territories.
The 90 seats in the region were contested in a three-phase election, with the results announced on October 8. NC-Congress alliance secured 48 seats, with the NC leading the alliance to victory, as the Congress won only six seats. (ANI)

Maulana Nadeem Al-Wajidi had been residing in the United States for some time, where he continued his academic and religious pursuits. Despite the hopes for recovery after surgery, his health did not improve, and he ultimately succumbed to his illness on the night of October 14, 2024.
Born on July 23, 1954, in Deoband, a town in Saharanpur district, Maulana Nadeem was part of a prestigious scholarly lineage. His original name, Waseef Hussain, was suggested by the eminent scholar Hazrat Hussain Ahmad Madani. His family was deeply rooted in Islamic scholarship, with both his father, Maulana Wajid Hussain Deobandi, and grandfather, Ahmad Hasan Deobandi, being recognized as prominent scholars in their own right.
Maulana Nadeem received his early education in Deoband, where he memorized the Quran and subsequently enrolled at Darul Uloom Deoband. He graduated in 1974, having laid the foundation for a lifelong dedication to Islamic scholarship and education. His contributions as an author and critic in religious discourse have earned him respect and admiration among students and scholars alike.
The legacy of Maulana Nadeem Al-Wajidi is characterized by his commitment to education, critical thought, and the promotion of Islamic values. His passing is not just a loss to his family and friends but also to the broader community that benefited from his wisdom and guidance.

Continuing its efforts to strengthen the agricultural sector and empower Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), J&K Bank today conducted second workshop in Jammu to educate farmers on the various credit schemes available with the banks. The workshop also focused on the process of creating credit linkages for FPOs to ensure better access to financial services.
Representatives from more than Sixty FPOs from Jammu Division participated in the event, which was aimed at enhancing their financial literacy and facilitating greater access to credit. MD & CEO Baldev Prakash chaired the workshop in presence of General Manager (NABARD) Vikas Mittal, Director Horticulture C L Sharma, MD JKRLM Shubhra Sharma, Bank’s General Manager (Credit) Ashutosh Sareen, General Manager & Divisional Head (Jammu) Sunit Kumar, Deputy General Manager Rakesh Magotra, LDMs, DDM’s NABARD, and other senior officers of the Bank & Agriculture department.
Speaking on the occasion, MD & CEO Baldev Prakash said,” The Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of doubling farmers’ income laid the foundation for a transformative shift in Indian agriculture, focusing on improving productivity, reducing input costs and enhancing market access. This visionary goal has not only driven innovations in farming practices but also expanded the scope of agri-business, with a strong emphasis on value addition, infrastructure development and financial inclusion”.
He added,” I think now is the best time for the agriculture sector with proactive support from the Government of Jammu & Kashmir under schemes like the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) and support for Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), there is a golden opportunity for farmers to thrive. The convergence of modern technology, enhanced credit accessibility and robust government initiatives makes this the ideal time to engage in scaling up of agriculture and horticulture-related activities. The focus on creating a sustainable, growth-oriented agricultural ecosystem in Jammu & Kashmir is ensuring that farmers are well-equipped to capitalize on emerging opportunities, paving the way for a prosperous future in this sector”.
J&K Bank, he said, is here to ensure that your efforts are recognized, while challenges are addressed and potential is fully realized. “Together, we can achieve the vision of a thriving, sustainable agricultural economy where our farmers stand empowered and resilient”, he added.
In his remarks, GM NABARD highlighted the importance of FPOs in enhancing agricultural productivity and ensuring that farmers can collectively access financial services. “Our partnership with J&K Bank is aimed at empowering FPOs with the knowledge and tools they need to succeed. By deepening financial inclusion and creating effective credit linkages, we can ensure that farmers receive the necessary support to improve their livelihoods.” Assuring the participants on the occasion, General Manager Ashutosh Sareen said that JK Bank is fully committed to supporting FPOs in their journey. “As the primary institution of this region, we understand that access to credit is a key enabler in making these initiatives successful”, he said.
Bank’s efforts, he added, have been aligned with the needs of farmers and the Bank is continuously working to design financial products that meet the unique requirements of FPOs, whether it’s working capital, term loans or infrastructure support.
“In collaboration with NABARD and other stakeholders, we aim to ensure that no farmer or FPO is left behind due to a lack of financial resources”, he said.
Earlier Bank’s Divisional Head Sunit Kumar delivered the welcome address and Bank’s Deputy General Manager Rakesh Magotra delivered a detailed presentation on functioning of the FPOs and various credit products of the Bank for development of agriculture segment.
MD JKRLM Shubhra Sharma, Director Horticulture C L Sharma and Joint Director Agriculture Satish Sharma also spoke during the workshop and apprised the participating FPOs about the government’s initiatives
The participants expressed appreciation for the Bank’s commitment to provide them timely and appropriate financial solutions for agriculture and its allied activities.
The workshop also included interactive segments, wherein farmers engaged with Bank officers to clarify their queries and discuss the specific credit needs of their organizations. The participants also discussed the bottlenecks they face currently in availing the facilities from the Bank.
Notably, first such workshop was organized in Kashmir this month, which was attended by forty FPO representatives. The initiative is part of Bank’s vision to promote the growth of the agricultural sector through financial inclusion and credit accessibility, contributing to the overall economic development of Jammu & Kashmir.

Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar held a grand ceremony on Monday to welcome the new MBBS Batch of 2024. During the event, the freshers were introduced to the Heads of Departments, faculty members, administration, and academic staff, marking the start of their medical journey.
The students were briefed on the college’s rules, regulations, and academic schedules, as well as the range of facilities available to them. They were introduced to key departments such as Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, and others that are central to their undergraduate studies.
Additionally, the new batch was familiarised with associated hospitals, including Govt. SMHS Hospital, Govt. Super Specialty Hospital, Govt. 500-Bedded Children Hospital Bemina, Govt. Bone & Joint Hospital, Govt. Chest Disease Hospital, Govt. LD Hospital, Kashmir Nursing Home, and the Institute of Mental Health & Neurosciences. They also received an overview of peripheral health centres linked with the Department of Community Medicine.
In her welcome address, the Principal and Dean of GMC Srinagar, Prof. Dr Iffat Hassan, warmly greeted the students and their parents. She emphasised the college’s dedication to delivering high-quality medical education, highlighting its academic excellence, clinical exposure, research opportunities, and comprehensive student support services. Parents were encouraged to work closely with teachers and the college administration to help shape their children into capable and compassionate doctors.

He provided an overview of GMC Srinagar and administered the induction oath to the students. Additionally, the Deputy Registrar of Academics, Prof. Saleem Ittoo, briefed the students on the teaching programmes and encouraged them to work hard, develop critical thinking, and seek guidance from their faculty and mentors.
