J&K Weather Alert: Kathua Records 156 mm Rainfall as MeT Warns of Heavy Rain, Flash Floods and Landslides

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir received heavy rainfall during the past 24 hours, with several areas recording significant precipitation, the Meteorological Department said.

Kathua KVK recorded the highest rainfall at 156 mm, followed by Jammu at 79 mm, Katra at 71 mm and Samba at 55 mm. Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

The latest rainfall has raised concerns over possible waterlogging, flash floods and landslides in vulnerable areas as the weather system is expected to remain active over the coming days.

Heavy Rain Expected on August 11 and 12

According to the MeT Centre Srinagar, one or two spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely at many places on August 11 and 12.

The department has warned that heavy to very heavy rainfall could occur in a few districts of the Jammu division.

Some areas of the Kashmir division may also experience brief but intense showers, particularly during the forenoon and afternoon hours.

Rain Forecast From August 13 to 16

Between August 13 and 16, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected at many places across Jammu and Kashmir.

The weather department has also forecast brief intense showers at a few locations during this period.

More Rain Possible From August 17 to 19

The wet spell could continue between August 17 and 19, when several spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely at many places.

The MeT department has warned that heavy rain and brief intense showers could occur in some districts, particularly during the early morning and afternoon hours.

Scattered Rain Expected From August 20 to 22

From August 20 to 22, light rain and thundershowers are likely at scattered places.

Although the rainfall is expected to become more scattered, localised intense showers cannot be ruled out.

MeT Issues Flash Flood and Landslide Warning

The Meteorological Department has advised people to remain cautious, particularly in vulnerable areas.

Heavy rain and brief intense showers are possible in some districts on August 11–12 and August 17–19, while one or two districts of the Jammu division could receive heavy to very heavy rainfall.

The department warned that torrential rainfall and intense showers could trigger:

• Flash floods
• Landslides
• Mudslides
• Temporary disruption to roads and transport
• Water accumulation in low-lying areas

Residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to remain alert and follow official weather and disaster-management advisories.
