Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has criticised the recent move to ban books written by scholars and reputed historians, stating that such actions cannot erase historical facts or the lived experiences of the people of Kashmir.
In a post on X, Mirwaiz said that banning books does not change history but instead reveals the insecurity and limited understanding of those responsible for such authoritarian steps.
He also pointed out the irony of hosting a Book Festival at the same time, which is being promoted to showcase a commitment to literature and free thought.
“This contradiction only highlights the real intent behind such moves,” he wrote.(KNS)
