J&K Government Extends Winter Vacation for Schools Until March 6, Reopen on March 07

Education Minister Sakina Itoo on Friday said that the winter vacations for schools have been extended, and all institutions will now reopen on March 07 .

The decision comes in view of the prevailing cold weather conditions in the region.

The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has announced an extension of winter vacations for all government schools up to the higher secondary level in the Kashmir division and winter zones of Jammu division.

As per the latest order, the winter break will now conclude on March 6, 2025, and schools will reopen on March 7, 2025, instead of the initially scheduled March 1, 2025.

This extension is in addition to the previously announced winter vacation schedule, which began on 06-12-2024 for all Government schools upto higher secondary level of Kashmir division and winter zones of Jammu division.

School Education Department on Friday announced winter vacations in phased manner from December-10 and December-16 respectively for the winter zones of Kashmir division.

As per the order issued by Principal Secretary School Education Department Suresh Kumar Gupta, ” For students upto 5th standard, the vacations shall begin from December-10 to February-28 and in case of students from 6th standard to 12th standard, the vacation shall begin from December-16 to February-28-2025.

It is further ordered, “The teaching staff of Government High and Higher Secondary Schools shall remain available at respective Headquarters from 10th of February, 2025 onwards for preparatory arrangements for the ensuing Board Examinations of class 10th, 11th and 12th.”

II. All teachers shall remain available as required for any online guidance to students during vacation period.

III. Any default on the part of Heads of Institutions/Teaching staff in observance of the above schedule shall attract strict action under the Rules.

School Education Department is likely to announce winter vacation in a phased manner in Kashmir division from December 09, official sources said on Tuesday

Sources told that the directorate has sent a proposal to government, seeking permission to announce the vacation from December 09 to February 28, 2025.

They said that for the secondary and senior secondary classes, DSEK has proposed to announce the vacation a week after the primary level.
