Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually flagged off the Amritsar–Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Vande Bharat Express train, aimed at enhancing connectivity for pilgrims and tourists. The train, operating six days a week (except Tuesday), reduces travel time to approximately 4.5 hours from the previous 5-7 hours.

Schedule and Route:

  • Train No. 26406 (Katra to Amritsar): Departs Katra at 6:40 AM, arrives Amritsar at 12:20 PM, with stops at Jammu Tawi, Pathankot Cantt, Jalandhar City, and Beas.
  • Train No. 26405 (Amritsar to Katra): Departs Amritsar at 4:25 PM, arrives Katra at 10:00 PM, with the same stops.
  • Fare: AC Chair Car ranges from ₹1,000–₹1,170; Executive AC Chair Car is ₹2,085.

This is the fifth Vande Bharat train in Jammu and Kashmir, connecting key religious sites like Shri Mata Vaishno Devi and the Golden Temple. It’s expected to boost tourism and local businesses. Vande Bharat Express Launch Between Katra and Srinagar Postponed to February 21 or 22

The much-anticipated launch of the Vande Bharat Express train service between Katra and Srinagar has been postponed, sources told Greater Kashmir.Scheduled for February 17, the launch has been pushed back to either February 21 or 22, according to sources in the Northern Railways.

Although no official order had been issued for the commencement of the rail service on February 17, Northern Railway authorities had received a verbal directive to prepare for the launch and restrict employee leaves.

However, a new verbal order has deferred the launch, with sources citing the government formation and swearing-in ceremony in Delhi as the reason behind the delay.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the Vande Bharat Express train service on the revised date.When contacted, Chief Area Manager Budgam (CAM) Kashmir railway Saqib Yusuf said no official order has been issued to commence the service on February 17 or February 21/22. 

He said that these reports have not been confirmed through any official announcements. 

Indian Railways Announces Vande Bharat Express Between Delhi and Katra cancelled for Next 50 days

Indian Railways has announced cancelling the Vande Bharat Express service between Delhi and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra for 50 days. The cancellation affects train number 22439/22440, which runs between New Delhi and Katra, a popular pilgrimage destination in Jammu and Kashmir.

The train, operated by the Northern Railway zone, is being temporarily taken off for maintenance work. Passengers who were planning to travel on this Vande Bharat Express during this period are advised to look for alternative travel options.

Currently, two Vande Bharat Express trains operate between Delhi and Katra. The first one is the 22439/22440 New Delhi-Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-New Delhi Vande Bharat Express, and the second is the 22477/22478 Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-New Delhi Vande Bharat Express, which will continue to run as scheduled.

The cancelled train, 22439/22440, covers a distance of 655 km and usually takes around 8 hours and 5 minutes to reach Katra from Delhi. The cancellation of this service is expected to impact several passengers, especially those travelling to Katra for religious purposes.
