Commenting on the sudden flooding in Kathua, he added, “This is a natural disaster, but we need to see whether the government and its related departments are fully prepared, whether the rescue operations are happening on time or not.”
In Kishtwar, efforts were focused on restoring essential services. Jammu Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar said, “There were huge boulders here; they were blasted yesterday. The boulders are being broken down. Rope breakers have been installed due to the possibility that some bodies might be trapped under them. The power supply and water supply have been restored. A bridge is being built here with the help of the Army… All the passengers stranded in Machail were safely evacuated yesterday.”
Meanwhile, in Kathua district, there atleast seven people have died in a landslide triggered by heavy rain. The cloudburst in Kathua, which occurred on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, also damaged a railway track, the national highway, and the local police station. Following the cloudburst and landslides, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said the Central government was closely monitoring the situation and assured all possible support. In a post on X, Shah wrote, “Spoke with the Lieutenant Governor and Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir regarding the cloudburst in Kathua. BJP gave false promises in the parliament & in the Supreme Court about early restoration of state.Prime Minister and Home Minister repeatedly announced restoration of statehood, immediately after elections but now say that it will be done at appropriate time.

At one hand, centre claims normalcy while on other hand say time for statehood not appropriate. He questioned centre government over security scenario as our jawans are being martyred, civilians killings too take place.

He said BJP doesn’t want to honour it’s commitment, so Congress is committed to take this movement to the people to struggle for getting back the lost honour, dignity, status and powers to serve the people. In the present state of confusion, the administration is confused as well as passing on the buck to others to escape responsiliries while people suffer.

Tariq Hameed Karra Criticizes India’s Govt Over Killings in Kathua, North Kashmir and Says Rising violence in J&K ‘exposes GoI’s tall claims’ of normalcy

Tariq Hameed Karra

Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president Tariq Hameed Karra on Thursday strongly criticised the Government of India over killings in Kathua and north Kashmir, calling them a “complete failure of the security apparatus”.

Reacting to the incidents, Karra said that both civilian killings and attacks on security forces are on the rise, exposing the government’s “tall claims” of normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir. “On one hand, they claim peace has been restored, and on the other, such brutal incidents keep happening. This shows their failure in handling the situation,” he said.

The JKPCC chief held the Central government responsible for the deteriorating security situation in J&K, saying their policies towards Jammu and Kashmir need immediate reconsideration. “They cannot go on like this. If they are true to their commitment to restoring normalcy, they must introspect and revisit their approach,” he added.

Karra also slammed the dual control system in Jammu and Kashmir, saying it is adding to the chaos.

Reacting to a statement by J&K Chief Minister’s advisor that the elected government in J&K was neither involved in decision-making nor in implementing security measures and that the chief minister was not even consulted in key security meetings, Karra remarked, “This is an insult to the electorate of Jammu and Kashmir and a blatant disregard for democratic norms.”

He questioned why the Lieutenant Governor (LG) was present at the meeting while the elected Chief Minister was sidelined. “This clearly shows there are two governments running J&K. The fate of an elected government is being decided by a few selected individuals, which is unacceptable,” he said.

Tariq Hameed Karra Denies Rumors of Congress-NC Alliance Collapse

Tariq Hameed Karra

Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee president Tariq Hameed Karra while debunking reports that the alliance with the National Conference is on the verge of a collapse, termed them as “malicious” and “concocted.”

Tariq Karra, asserted that there was no truth in these reports and that Congress was committed to this alliance and in support of the present dispensation.

“These are just baseless, malicious, concocted, and constructed rumours. I don’t have much to say about it. This is not a thing to respond to,” Karra stated.

Karra, however, added that they have been reiterating their principal demand for restoration of statehood and that they would not be a part of the cabinet unless statehood is restored.

“Statehood restoration is our principal stand. We are not joining the cabinet unless statehood is restored,” he said.

Several reports have been doing rounds on social media that Congress was contemplating to put an end to the alliance with the National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir—(KNO)

Tariq Hameed Karra Demands Full Restoration of Statehood, Rejects Partial Measures

Tariq Hameed Karra

J&K Pradesh Congress (JKPCC) President, Tariq Hameed Karra, today said that incomplete restoration of statehood is not acceptable at all to the people of J&K.

He has called for immediate complete restoration of statehood. He suspected partial restoration of statehood with some amended decisions that include keeping some powers with union govt.

“We want complete statehood restoration and not partial or amended form,” Karra said while talking to media persons during his visit in Rajouri. Congress organised a constitution day convention here.“Congress party has demanded immediate statehood restoration and I want to make it clear that we want complete statehood restoration,” said Karra.

He alleged that some people in Union Government are trying to go for incomplete statehood restoration and not allocating powers of some vital departments and this statehood restoration will not be in original position, JKPCC President said.

He indicated towards some apprehensions that powers of some vital departments will be kept with central government only. Regarding demand of restoration of Article 370, he said that a resolution was passed by Congress party on August 6 in 2019 in which it (party) took its stand and entire party unit still stands on that resolution only.

Union Territory Foundation Day ‘Day of mourning’: Tariq Hameed Karra J&K Congress Chief

tariq

Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president Tariq Hameed Karra on Thursday declared October 31—observed as the Union Territory Foundation Day—as a “day of mourning” and a “day of regret” for Congress.
He was speaking to the media persons following the party’s programme at Congress Bhawan here to pay tribute to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 40th death anniversary,
He said, “How can you expect every conscious person in Jammu and Kashmir to celebrate after their state was taken away arbitrarily, undemocratically, and unconstitutionally? Their rights were stripped, and they were divided into two union territories. For us, this is not a day of celebration but a day of mourning.”
Responding to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s criticism of those who chose not to attend UT Foundation Day celebrations, Karra said: “He can criticise us, but it is not acceptable to disregard the sentiments of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Having taken away their rights, how can one expect their representatives to partake in this so-called celebration?”
When asked about Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s recent meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh regarding the restoration of statehood, the MLA acknowledged the significance of maintaining protocol.
“Whenever a new government is formed, it is customary for the Chief Minister to meet the central leadership. Omar met with them to represent the emotions and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
Regarding his remarks on making structural changes within Congress, the JKPCC chief declined to elaborate. “I don’t wish to discuss these matters in the media or turn this into a media debate,” he said.
